Have I made an evolutionary discovery?

Like most people I have wall to wall carpeting inside my BBQ, I noticed that my Chicken (that was raised by cats) had been laying eggs on the carpet inside the BBQ, this morning I was shocked to find that the chicken had not only laid a couple of eggs but a kitten too.

Naturally I dashed inside to get my camera to record this evolutionary discovery and when I returned a cat was lying next to the chicken, this situation has me confused, did the cat lay eggs and a kitten or did the chicken lay eggs and a kitten.

I did think that as usual I had drunk far too much coffee and was seeing things, but photos never lie.

Any ideas?

My Cat is Growing Up...

Four and a half months ago, The first time in my life I adopted a small cat ( about 4 month ?) with unexpected, when he first came he was dirty, thin and weak.I wanted to give him a bath, but he was too small to do that.sigh

Well,at that time, he kept safe distance from me, he slept outside at the balcony himself for the first 3 nights. and the next following days, as the weather getting cold, he liked to snuggle beside the freezer. So I put a small box there and he began to sleep inside it every night. At the daytime I checked his body, I didn't want shared his insects.I wanted him clean and healthy, grin so I using the garlic water to kill them if I found, it worked well. I cleaned his ears with eye ointment. He let me did it only I needed is a quick job.yay

Then one day I found out some hairs began falling down from his small tail and he refused me to touch it as well, I didn't know what happened and searched online, considered that he is too small to use medicine, I thought of vinegar this time. luckily he is very close to me, it's easy to rub vinegar onto his sick tail... I have two type of vinegars, strong one and soft one,to my surprised that he liked the smell of vinegar, wow the strong one stopped his sick spreading quickly. Then everyday I only using the soft one which is more safer to him, he liked to lick it,I helped him to took off the bad hairs and then waiting for the new hairs growing back in a long month .

Now I still dropped a few vinegar in water to wash his body hairs often, he seems used to it, his hairs are soft and gentle when touch them after drying, And no doubt, his status of health is well also. He likes chasing his tail in circling on my bed. now I would rather call him a vinegar cat ? rolling on the floor laughing

Here's few pics of him

Hands Up !

I say to my cat, when she's naughty.

She looks at me as if saying:- "And who do u think u r ?" Then she makes it for the back door and vanishes for the next couple of hours. Enough for me to start worrying , so she gets her own back again. (She's the cat on my profile, but 2 years older)

My dog (a Brown Chow that looks like a teddy bear) walks on her back legs all the way from the electric gate to the back garden, with me obviously holding her front legs and walking backwards.

Then I have 2 other cats as well. The black baby, now quite a few years older, loves catnip. She is as soft as silk. The male cat moved in by himself over summer, and it's too cold to chuck him out in winter, so till the end of winter, then we will decide if he is behaving himself now, as he tried to fight with all the girls, especially mine, as she is the Queen in the household, even of the humans as well.

Then there r my 2 sons' cats:- The black mother, that's absolutely gorgeous and the Tortoisshell that is getting on in years now, but eats 4 meals at breakfast and supper times, as she is so skinny.

My animals:- We can't live without them. Life would be empty and sad if they were not there. Thus:- We will always have animals, just the type and colour will vary.

Elephant Poaching

The illegal trade in elephant tusks, fuelled by continuing demand for ivory, drives elephant poaching, where elephants in the wild are ruthlessly shot and their tusks hacked out.

According to the WWF, a new report issued under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) shows that illegal killing of elephants and illegal ivory trade continues to increase.

The report highlights China and Thailand as the two most important raw ivory consuming countries in the world, and indicates that poaching trends can be correlated to increasing affluence in China and tourist arrivals in Thailand.

To me it doesn't matter where the the demand's coming from -- I only wish those who are buying ivory trinkets, ivory jewellery, and other ornamentation carved from elephant tusks could be forced to spend a few hours close to dead elephants that've been shot by poachers and their faces butchered to remove the tusks.

Dead elephant, its tusks hacked out and its hide streaked with vulture droppings, lies in rigor mortis under the African sun after being shot by poachers in Zambia's Lower Zambezi National Park.

Another dead elephant, shot at the same time and its tusks also hacked off by the poachers, lies nearby.
And for what? An ivory trinket or ivory carving (below).

For those living in the West, it's easy to become smug and blame the illegal ivory trade on China, Thailand and other Asian countries.

However, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) has found a thriving trade in ivory items after a survey of websites in the UK, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and Germany.

"In just two weeks, our survey found more than 660 items with a total advertising value of almost ?650,000 across a variety of European websites. A shocking 98% of adverts failed to comply with website policies of providing evidence of legality," said Kelvin Alie, director of IFAW's prevention of Illegal Wildlife Trade Programme.

"Europeans must realise that what they see as a pretty trinket for sale online is just one facet of an ongoing war against cruelty and for the protection of biodiversity. In Kenya, and across most African range states, elephants are ruthlessly slaughtered by poachers to fuel the illegal ivory trade," Alie continued.

"Any trade in ivory provides a cover for and encourages elephant poaching and illegal trade in ivory. The war on illegal ivory trade and elephant poaching can only be won by removing elephant ivory not just from international trade, but entirely from the global marketplace, " he said.

In 2007 eBay, under pressure from the International Fund for Animal Welfare, banned all international sales of elephant-ivory products. But sadly that's not the case in my own country, where Bid-or-buy.com, a South African online auction site, still lists hundreds of ivory items for sale.

As those advocating a total ban on ivory sales point out, if ivory had no commercial value, there would be little incentive for anyone to kill elephants for their tusks and one of the major threats to their survival would disappear.

So please don't buy ivory of any kind, and tell your friends and family not to buy ivory, especially when travelling in Thailand or South East Asia.

(To supplement my previous blog, this blog shows graphic images of the carcasses of the slaughtered animals.)

My cats and I

(by request)

Here the senior cat wishes me to know the kitchen food bowl has strangely gone empty. The junior cat was going to tell me too, but the older one beat him too it.

Ever since I got out of the hospital this has been his behavior every night when I go to sleep. He never used to sleep in that spot. I think he is checking to see if I am hypoglycemic by sniffing for the acetone that would come out of my skin pores if I was. There is a group that trains 'sensor dogs' to bark incessantly if their owner has a low blood sugar level while sleeping. Hopefully the owner wakes up, or someone comes. My assigned visiting Nurse says I seem to have a 'sensor cat' who cares. Twice now he has awakened me in the middle of the night by slapping my face or gently biting my nose when my blood sugar dropped (well) below 40.

This is a re-enactment of course because normally the lights are off and I don't normally wear pajamas. :)
