what have i missed? i went 3 weeks without internet and though i survived it, i felt myself touching on insanity until i could pay the bill.

I couldn't figure out why even to these days. Every time he heard me coming, let alone showing up myself in front of him, he just took off as fast as he could. What had I done? What did I do that deserved such rejection? To be honest, I had mixed feelings.. sad and disappointed.

But, I have never been a quitter, especially when I know what I am capable of. Oh well, at least I will try my best. So I kept bringing something for him, secretly ofcourse. Then I would take a peek behind a curtain, to see if he would take it.

And guess what?
He did. Yesss.. he did..!!
Still he would run away once he saw me.

"Keep trying, Kal! Don't give up!" I told myself.

And one day, we met.. he stood still.. motionless.. frozen.
As if he got caught in the act..
We looked at each other's eyes!

I asked him: "What really has happened to you?"
He didn't answer, but this time he didn't run away.
He looked at me and then left .. walked away from me.

And few days ago..
I saw him as usual. He tried to approach me
He seemed to wait for me as if he couldn't wait to see me.
Aaahhh at last..

I told my Giant about all those. Every time there was a progress, my Giant gave me a kiss. He said: "I am glad you are nice to him, Kal!"

I said: "Nope, I am not nice to him! I gave him milk, chicken and fish, not because I am nice. I simply couldn't stand it every time I looked at him. That tiny little baby kitten.. who always gets in to my verandah.. is right-eye-blind..!"

...So, we must have a dozen species here at the Vierk mansions. I"ve seen these sorts before, and unlike the larger beasties, what makes them so small are the short legs, VERY short. So more empathic, a little guy couldn't be. But I digress. Well, she was in the sink, among dishes, and looked a lot like an odd piece of goopy dark chocolate cake. The kind I routinely stuff my, hmmmm, was it, the pie hole, with? But, when I looked closer, she moved, trying to escape. To the extent possible, I try my best to rescue all critters, as with our good friends, the spiders, and I then place them outside. Once I stopped the car with the family on board, to place an enormous snapper, which seemed confused on a country road, back into an adjacent pond. Trust me, with those formidable scratching limb nails, and that long neck and beak, there is only one safe sweet spot on the shell to grab onto. Well, back to topic. Usually I try to catch the larger spiders, by gently picking them up with soft brand name tissue, (anathema to Bernie), and to then shake them outside. Of course they probably all sneak back in, but there you have it. I've noticed that sometimes, these smaller ones seem to get squeezed too much with grease monkey/guitar player hands. So this morning, feeling inspired, I tried to catch her with a deep spoon. and I did, thinking all the easier to flick her away into her jungle, our garden. But these suckers have all sorts of survival tricks, and one is the sneaky spider jump. In her case, right out of the ladle, and into the, oy weh, drain. Tried in vain to get her back in, as during helo rescues, in another life. But no, she was gone, and the design of the drain rim stop was such, that even a little spider man couldn't climb out. Not the end of the world, at least my world. But I felt bad.

Many years ago, they used to spray the pesticide DDT in an attempt to control the mosquito population.
They had no idea at the time, that DDT would have such a devastating affect upon the environment, especially the health of eaglets.

By the time 1982 arrives, there was only one known eagle nest in all of the state of New Jersey (NJ).
That nest only gave rise to 1 eaglet that survived long enough to fledge (leave the nest in flight).
With the banning of the use of DDT along with a Clean Water Act, the eagles have gotten much healthier.
in 1985 there was still only 1 nest, but 2 eaglets fledged.
In 1990 there were 4 nests and 5 eaglets fledged.
In 1995 there were 11 nests and 19 eaglets fledged
In 2000 there were 23 nests and 30 eaglets fledged
In 2005 there were 48 nests and 64 eaglets fledged
In 2010 there were 82 nests and 69 eaglets fledged
In 2015 there were 150 nests and 199 eaglets fledged
and this year 2019 there were 189 nests and 248 eaglets fledged,

That's a terrific recovery.

Mosquitos are now controlled with more biological techniques.
For instance certain small fish specialize in eating mosquito larvae,
Those fish are inoculated into streams and swamps,

We need to ensure that we do not damage the ecosystem with man-made harmful chemicals,
especially those who have residual affects.
We are a part of that ecosystem. Our food comes from it.
