Flower power

I was walking along a street near my home and my gaze was drawn toward the bright yellow flowers planted in the troughs at the side of the road. As I got close I was curious as to whether the delicate flowers had any scent and so bent down to find out, and yes there was a sweet aroma. I took a further deep inhalation to absorb more of this precious scent amidst the strongly polluted air around, full of engine gases and then a thought occurred to me. These little flowers must be pumping out this fragrance all the time, not just when I stopped by to sniff them. And then I was struck by the significance of this – twenty-four hours a day these small delicate plants are emitting a strong aroma but where can it come from? We humans of course emit our own particular aroma (smell) individual to each one of us, just as we do heat, and this is because we have a beating heart and a powerful system which converts food to energy. But what about the flower, it doesn’t have a beating heart and its roots sit in soil which has a completely different aroma. So how does a flower generate such a strong energy? Of course it is not done for us humans to enjoy, it is done to attract the insects which will pollinate it but nevertheless this is quite a feat.
This is just one of the wonders of life which we probably spend little of our time admiring. In fact how much of our wonderful world do we take time to really appreciate?

Smash That Idol (Part 1)

Embedded image from another site

A compilation Jan 27, 2015

You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them.—Exodus 20:4–51

*

Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.—1 John 5:212

*

When we hear the word “idol” we often think of statues and objects reminiscent of those worshipped by pagans in ancient cultures. However, the idols of the 21st century often bear no resemblance to the artifacts used thousands of years ago. Today, we have replaced the “golden calf” with an insatiable drive to reach the top of the corporate ladder or with a myriad of other passionate pursuits. And, sadly, those who aggressively pursue goals and dreams, altogether excluding God, are often admired for their individualism and drive. In the end, however, it doesn’t matter what empty pleasure we chase after or to what or whom we bow down, the result is the same—separation from the one true God.

Understanding contemporary idols can help us to understand why they prove to be such a powerful temptation. An idol can be anything we place ahead of God in our lives, anything that tugs at our heart more than God does, such as possessions, careers, relationships, hobbies, sports, entertainment, goals, greed, addictions to alcohol/drugs/gambling/pornography, etc. Many of these things we idolize can be very good, such as relationships or careers. Yet Scripture tells us that whatever we do, we are to “do it all for the glory of God,”3 and that we are to serve God only.4 Unfortunately, God is often nowhere to be found as we zealously pursue our idols. Worse yet, the significant amount of time we often spend in these idolatrous pursuits leaves us with little or no time to spend with the Lord.

… The joys of this world for which we too often seek will never satisfy the human heart. As Solomon beautifully conveys in the book of Ecclesiastes, apart from a right relationship with God, life is futile. We were created in God’s image5 and designed to worship and glorify Him, as He alone is worthy of our worship. God has placed “eternity in man’s heart,”6 and a relationship with Jesus Christ is the only way to fulfill this longing for eternal life.—S. Michael Houdmann7

*

How many have found it easy to have your idols smashed? If you have, you’re unusual! For most people, it’s pretty hard to take. We are tempted to say, “Now listen, Lord, can’t we just keep this little idol here? I worshipped this idol for many years and it was very dear to me and I thought it was great. Now that I’ve found out it isn’t great, can’t I just keep it in one little back corner of the house someplace? After all, I spent a lot of money on it and it took a lot of my time. If it’s not good for much else, if it’s not useful and I can’t worship it anymore, can’t I at least just keep it around someplace?”

Don’t you find this true with a lot of things? Don’t you find this true in your own heart? “Lord, why do I have to give this up? It’s not so bad—and it used to be pretty good. I used to think it was great. It may not be useful, but at least maybe it’s harmless! Can’t I just at least keep it back in the corner someplace?”

Then, wham! Just like that, God comes along and smashes that idol. “I will have no other gods before me.”8 Nothing short of right is right. And when you find out that it isn’t just right and that idol gets smashed, it hurts. It’s not easy to take. (Continued - Final)

The Reality of Greatness

Embedded image from another site

By Maria Fontaine Feb 13, 2016

Someone I was communicating with mentioned the “greats” of Christianity. Although I’ve used this term—I think we all have—and I greatly admire those who the Lord has placed in the public eye to be examples, I felt the Lord wanted to give me some further understanding of how He looks at greatness.

Those like Amy Carmichael, Adoniram Judson, Mother Teresa and many others who we’ve heard and read about did great things and gave their lives in sacrificial love. I’m not minimizing that at all. However, the Lord pointed something out to me through one of those simple but profound little questions that open a whole new perspective.

He said:

“Mother Teresa was a wonderful example of determination, faith, and overcoming, but what about those other women who worked right alongside her all those years in the slums and garbage dumps of India but never received public acclaim or recognition? Were they any less great?

“Or what about any other child of My kingdom who has put their whole heart into following Me, giving unselfishly because My Spirit motivated them to do so? No matter how big or small their contribution looks to others, if they are doing their best to lay down their lives daily for Me, are these not great also? They are in My eyes.

“Many times in this life, those who are giving everything may not be lauded or recognized for their love and dedication. Few people may realize what they’ve sacrificed for Me. Many may see them as insignificant or small.”

It’s natural to want to compare one thing to another, one person to another. That’s how our minds often work. We tend to consider those who the Lord has called to stand in the spotlight as greater than the rest. However, the Lord in His wisdom sets some up as role models, not because they are better or have accomplished more than others, but to remind us that “He that would be greatest among you must be the servant of all.”1

It’s not the admiration of others that makes a person great. It’s their close connection to Jesus that inspires a sacrificial love for others, as they follow His example. That greatness is something that every sincere, wholehearted child of God—whether known or unknown—can be living in his or her own way by doing what Jesus has asked them to do.

As it says in 1 Peter 5:6: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, so that in due time He may exalt you.” As we let Jesus guide our lives, humbling ourselves before Him by accepting and putting our hearts into doing what He shows us is most important, we become great in His eyes. Like children who emulate and learn from their parents, because they trust in their love for them, Jesus asks us to trust in His love for us and emulate the example He set for us of sacrificial love. Placing our lives in His hands is humbling, but it’s the surest way to find the glory that only God can give us.

I will close this little article with some wisdom from the Word:

And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”—Matthew 18:2–4 ESV

He who is least among you all is the one who is great.—Luke 9:48 ESV

For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.”—Isaiah 57:15 ESV

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.—Luke 18:14 ESV

1 Matthew 23:11.

Give us joy in our labors and glory in our tasks, Lord.

Thank the Lord for the oil of His Spirit! -- That vital touch with Him -- His Divine Life, Beauty, Power and Wisdom!

If you've got that divine anointing, it makes every little task wonderful! Anything you do, no matter what it is, you can do it in the Spirit! But if you just have the letter of the law of duty only, it drags you down and turns you off. -- "So, you gotta have a glory in the thing you do; oh, you gotta have that somethin' thrills you through and through; cookin' taters, washin' clothes, or blowin' baby's nose; you need that certain somethin' that will see you through!" Call it what you like: inspiration, charisma, talent, personality, or the Spirit -- you've gotta have something that brings you to life, spurs you to action -- emotion that moves you into motion!

The Spirit can make every task, whatever it is, glorious! -- In the Spirit, in the Spirit, all my life is like a song; in the Spirit, in the Spirit, I am happy all day long! In the Spirit, in the Spirit, there is much more right than wrong; in the Spirit, in the Spirit, you can really kick the gong!

Have you got the Spirit? Has whatever you do got the power and the fire of God? -- If not, it's dead works! God help you to have the fire-power of God's Spirit in all you do! Amen? Hallelujah!

Inner meditation

people always think god live in religoius shrine.they strongly believe in heaven and hell.Where god is living forests shrines sky universe or anyelse. But god always live in our heart and body.he too near us from our eyes.but we find him in outer world.however our body developed from five elements.our soul is main source of consciousness. Body is like its clothes and soul is a light or energy.it does not died or born only change its clothes in different births.though soul is son of god but due to illusion it totally neglect the creature. God is with us.meditation is only way to know about ourself.we donot require to find the god in any where. After a experience we find that we feel the energy of god .there are several other benefits of meditation. We should do meditation which helps us who we are exactly and we expirence a wonderful world which we never imagination. Our body also stay healthy and mind as well. God bless you.

Strawberry Fields Forever (Part 1)

Embedded image from another site

By Curtis Peter van Gorder Jan 20, 2016

It is said that our life hinges on four main decisions that lead us to become what we are: what career we choose, who we marry, what friends we make, and what we believe in. I would say that what we believe in is the most important of the four, as that will largely determine what happens with the other three.

Each one of us likely has a story of some pivotal moment that helped shape our belief system. These experiences are part of what is known as our testimony. Our life story speaks volumes. It tells the listener that if it happened to us, then it just might work for them. You can read how Paul told his story in Acts chapter 22. Perhaps your story is still in the making. Here is mine:

I was nineteen when I decided to spend the summer on my family’s abandoned farm out in the middle of the Pennsylvania wilderness in America. It could hardly be called a farm anymore. Only the shells of a few buildings remained. Forty years earlier it had been a bustling farm for my father and his family of seven rowdy brothers and sisters, but a tractor that was strip mining in the area ran over a fuel line that ignited, reducing the house to ashes. No one bothered rebuilding the house, and the surrounding property reverted back to its natural wild state. Away from everything and everybody, it was the perfect distraction-free place to chart my path for my future. Nineteen is a pivotal age and a time many make important crossroads-type decisions—and so it was with me.

My dog and I lived for six weeks in complete simplicity. Taking long walks through the forest, swimming in the river, meditating, and writing poetry. I lived on wild strawberries, granola, and soybeans. I nicknamed this place my “Strawberry Fields Forever” after the popular Beatles’ song that romanticized an idyllic eternal world that I hoped to find in this natural simplicity.

My life previously had been anything but simple, and I longed for some peace of mind. My girlfriend had gotten pregnant. I had asked her to marry me, but it didn’t work out. The child was given up for adoption. (Just as a footnote, I have since met my son, and he told me that he is thankful for the gift of life. I am thankful that he has done well as a successful financial adviser and has a happy home life.) To know that I had brought a child into the world was truly sobering, to say the least.

At the time I sought to express myself by writing in the “stream of consciousness” style, and my photography was equally as confusing. Just to show you how confusing it was: some friends and I had put together an exhibition of our “art,” which we had dubbed “Weirdism” in the hopes of starting a new art movement. It was short-lived, though, as we found our exhibition in the trash the next morning. The janitor had mistaken it for garbage.

At this time in my life, I was taking LSD and marijuana occasionally and it was messing my head up badly, giving me a very distorted sense of reality. All of this was happening against the background of the turbulent ‘70s, with the Vietnam War, race riots, the civil rights struggle, and a nation of searching youth all thrown into the mix. I longed to find a simple life to reconnect with nature and try to find my spiritual roots.

I thought perhaps I could find it in Zen archery. I was in awe of the great masters that I had read about, who could shoot an arrow and hit the bull’s eye, then with the second arrow split the first arrow in half. I tried and tried to hit the bull’s eye, but I spent most of my time searching for the arrows. It would take me a few lifetimes to master this art, I figured. Now I knew why they had pictured the masters with long beards and bald heads—it took them that long to learn to shoot straight. But I was in a hurry to find enlightenment.

~~ WITHOUT BLINKING ...3

Thirty years is so long, the distance is so much, it is as if death is not going to occur.

If you want to contemplate death, know another fact about it: it can occur the next moment; it is possible the very next moment. You may not be able to hear my whole sentence, I may not be able to complete it. My mother's father used to tell me that when I was born he consulted one astrologer, one of the best known astrologers of those days. The astrologer was to make my KUNDALI - birth chart. But the astrologer studied it and he said, "If this child survives after seven years, only then will I make the chart. It seems impossible that he can survive for more than seven years, so it is useless. If the child is going to die in seven years it is useless to make the kundali; it will be of no use. And it has been my habit," the astrologer said, "that unless I am certain that the kundali will be useful I never make it." So he didn't make it.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, I survived. Then my mother's father went to the astrologer, but he was dead, so he never could make my kundali. He was dead, and I have been constantly wondering about this. He was aware of the fact that this child may die, but he was not aware of the fact that he may die. He was not aware! It seems that he was absolutely unconcerned - and he was no ordinary man. But no one is concerned with his own death. Knowingly, cunningly, we are not concerned with it because it creates a fear. So I have always suspected that that astrologer might have never looked at his own kundali; otherwise he would have become aware.

Death is possible the very next moment, but the mind will not believe it. I say it and your mind will say, "No! How is it possible the next moment? It is far away." But that is a trick. If you postpone, you cannot contemplate. It must be so near that you can focus on it. And when I say that the next moment it is possible, I mean it. It can happen, and whenever it will happen it will be the next moment. Just before it, you could not have conceived that it was going to happen.

A person is dying: just a moment before he could never have thought that death is so near. It always happens in the next moment - remember. It has always happened that way, and this will be the way always. It always happens in the next moment. Bring it near so that you can focus on it, and that very focusing will help you to enter in, a new need will be created.

Secondly, you go on living. You go on creating artificial meanings and purposes for this very moment.

You never think of your life as a whole, whether it has any meaning or not. You go on creating new meanings, and you push yourself on with those meanings. That is why a poor man lives a more meaningful life than a rich man - because a poor man has many things to get, and that gives a meaning to his life. If you are really rich, it means you have everything that is possible and this world cannot offer anything to you. Then your life becomes meaningless. Now you cannot create any meaning for this moment, for this day, to help you live. That is why the richer a society, the more affluent a culture, the more meaninglessness is felt. Poorer societies never feel meaninglessness.

New Year, Fresh Start

Embedded image from another site

Words from Jesus

Each new year brings with it many things. It’s full of freshness, growth, and new experiences. It’s full of second chances, forgiveness, and opportunities to try again. It’s also full of tests, new challenges, and its share of difficulties and problems.

The most important thing in your new year is your relationship with Me. Because with Me at your side, you’re guaranteed to make it through whatever this new year may hold.

It’s been wisely said that life on earth is a testing ground and a learning experience, and with Me as your guide and coach, you’re sure to be successful. Your success may not look like success as it is popularly perceived, but you will be successful in the things that last beyond this life and into eternity.

Enter this new year with Me, holding My hand, and letting Me lead and guide you. Although I can’t promise that the paths you will walk this year will be easy or problem-free, I can promise you that My strength will always be sufficient for you, and that you will not face a challenge too big or too difficult for you and Me to handle together.

As we walk through this year together, the challenges you face can become opportunities for you to experience My unfailing power and strength. The choices that you face will be easier to make with My counsel to direct you. The connections and relationships you have this year will be sweeter and deeper as more of Me shines through you. At the close of this new year you’ll be able to look back and see the progress you’ve made and look forward to another year with Me.

*

Look back and see how far you’ve come this last year. Look at all the victories that have been won, all that you’ve learned, and how much you’ve grown. You’ve come through some pretty tough times, but you didn’t give up when the going got tough. You held on, fought through to victory, and now you’re stronger and your faith has grown. Everything that you’ve gone through has helped you in some way, and will also serve to help you in the future. Being able to look back and enjoy the victories of the last year is part of the reward of making it past the obstacles and overcoming them.

Now that you’ve looked back at the view from the mountain you climbed last year, look ahead to the future and to the mountain of this next year in front of you. This next mountain looks higher than the one you just climbed, and it is. But that also means that the summit is going to have an even more incredible view! And even though this new mountain may present a few more challenges than the last one, because of the experience you’ve gained and the things you’ve learned, you’re stronger and more prepared to tackle the challenges ahead. Plus, with Me as your guide, you can’t go wrong. I’ll be with you every step of the way on the climb.

*

Much of life is about the little decisions you make every day. Decisions of the past have had their effect on your life, but every new day can be a new start. No matter what has happened up till now, you have a chance to make the right choices today.

Don’t waste time reliving the pain of past mistakes and wrong decisions. That only saps your power to do the good that you can do today. You can’t change the past, but you can make decisions that will build the future, starting right now, so take full advantage of the present.

Learn from past mistakes and put them behind you today. Forgive those who have wronged you and ask forgiveness from those you have wronged. That probably won’t be easy, but don’t put it off; determine today to do it. Look to Me and My Word for fresh courage and hope, starting today. Dream new dreams today. Set new goals today. Spend your time on things that truly count today. Love your family today. Be a friend today. Do things better, starting today.
