123whisper: Depend how long you live abroad ...and if you spend more years outside birth country ...but I find,it's never the same when you go back ...and I wouldn't call it 'homeless soul' but it can feel as orphanhood from blood relations...

I think this is true of people who have lived outside their native land for long periods of time, but I have been back in England full time now for over two years and the mantle of Englishness slipped on like a well worn coat

felixis99: quite right, it is something in our culture of individualism and personal freedom.....but anyway, social democracy? no thank you

computer is American (Bell Labratories) & German BTW even the Brits were in on it before Atanansoff (IDK if I spelled that right), and Hewlett Packard was founded before their computer was built by a few years. It is an interesting question. I guess it depends on whose source you read.

Well, Felix,
his name is Atanasov, he has a Bulgarian father, he is Bulgarian like it or not, holding American passport...as for where his invention is registered, we have no argument on that.
Your individualism and personal freedom?
Aren't you the father and mother of the team work, togetherness, everyone involved...at least on theory...?!
Personal freedom and individualism is probably the excuse to not care about anybody else but yourselves, behind your shut doors...

Blood relations are the least to make me homesick...
Been abroad long enough, different countries, had no problem adapting...
But the moment I fill my lungs up with Bulgarian air something happens, something magical, can't explain it...
I want to die here and become part of this soil...
Crazy!

Where Americans have an aspie liberal capitalism of isolated individuals responsible to nobody they also possess an extremely illiberal collectivism centred around God. And these two aspie contradicting strains clash like hell.

One could be forgiven for believing that Americans are born without a soul, but their soul-searching just takes on a much more primitive form. The closest they come to social being and social conscience is religious conscience and it's like Europe before 1789.

I don't want to insult the fellow Americans but somehow they remind me of the Italian mafia hard guys...they believe in God, adore and fear their Moms and in the same breath can spill your brain on the floor...

This could change tho with the Trumpening. Religious collectivism evolves into sophisticated tribalism(nationalism), at least it did in Europe in the 19th century and elsewhere at other time, and Trump is no liberal capitalist. The modern and non-religious sense of fellow-feeling is born in nationalism and maybe we're witnessing the beginning of this.

However, for this to happen the social conservatives and the liberal capitalists will have to either mutually moderate or part ways.

you care like a kiwi

roaring coastal air to lion rock at piha.
wherever I am, can smell that black sand the amazing sunsets, and
stupid fazed mind in the 90s scrambling up lion rock to release the ashes.

I could easily be wrong and America may miss out nationalism altogether. Bible bashing and humanism - religion primitive and religion modern respectively - may be the only collective forces.

And maybe that works with the individualism to have only religious universalism(be it pee-cee or bible bashing)as the alternative. Capitalism with Christianity/Humanism allows for the "me" and the "everybody" in me versus everybody else whereas the nationalistic and less religious continent of Europe has tended towards "us" and "them".
