Thinking Of You
My heart was crushed as I remembered
Your sweet whispers of nothing that tickled my ear.
A tear drew a crooked path upon my cheek
And I found myself wishing you were here.
I remember the way you touched me
And found my lips smiling at the thought.
I remember too how the lights danced
In your twinkling dark bright eyes.
Do you remember the way my fingers traced
Your tender skin, the outline of your body?
Remember when how we kissed,
Our breath quickened, and it tasted like honey?
Then oneday our happiness was all swept away
And I thought that day my heart would break
As my screams broke the silence -
Even the rose you gave me bled.
I wanted to die when you died,
Wanted to cry till I was dry.
My crushed heart and the bleeding rose
And sweet memories of you are all that's left.

She whispers sweet
nothings in our
ear..
and we cannot
hear it..
In her eyes are
the whisper of
true love..
Yet.. we do not
see it..
With her tamberine
she dances
for us..
but we do not
rejoice..
And with her heart
does come the
whisper of a
thousand passions..
But, Behold! we will
not receive it..
And in so doing
we break the heart
of a velvet night
whose stars fall
at the feet of
she who whispers..
and they weep..
For their joy
is no more..
nothings in our
ear..
and we cannot

I am the reason that you can't sleep.
I am in the thoughts that you think so deep.
I'm out of sight,
but on your mind.
I am the pieces,
that you are trying to find.
You still feel me with you
where we both used to lay.
I am in your thoughts
at night every day.
I'm still the keeper of your heart.
I will never return it,
even though we're apart.
My last kiss still lingers,
it won't go away.
You will be sorry,
for the games you wanted to play.
You pray that one day
I'll come back.

is hardened & black.

My loves have counted Twenty
by this winter time.
Spring's oats have clearly left me
merely with a sigh.
My loves have counted Twenty
Just go someplace and cry.
Each season brings the torment
with the tilling of the soul.
Twenty Springs bare witness -
sorrow's frost upon the knoll.
Praying to reap one harvest
of a new found source of pride.
Walking along the furrows.
Is there no place for I ?
Twenty times we sow our seed.
Just go someplace and cry.
With those Springs came the Fall -
torrid colors always seen.
Just Fall into cold
cold silence -
The ever selfish theme.
Sometimes Spring and Fall
share the ever present I.
Yet another season stands alone.
Just go someplace and cry.
Left me did the standard
by which all blooms compare.
When Spring had graced the spectrum,
then suddenly unaware.
If ever a Spring had blossomed -
the seasons' greatest lie.
Oh, these leaves a turning !
Just go somplace and cry.
An Angel's breath brought the day
ole' Willie told it all.
Springtime needn't look my way -
came the unforgiving Fall.
The sparrow's wings carry off
the promise of passion's lore.
Each turning leaf a tribute to
all those sown before.
And now we mark the cradle.
Few Winters to pass us by.
The cold, it cometh as Twenty before.
There's no where left to cry.
The bounty of love's harvest
left with wisdom
and nothing more.
Sunsets now betray us -
we may not plead for more.
As Twenty Blossoms of the seasons
have ended being none.
Wipe my eyes -
renew the season,
and pray for twenty-one.

About this poem:
I began writing this poem early in 2001. Inspired by a woman who I loved. The relationship was difficult. Wonderful at times. Terrible at times. It also makes reference to the love of my life - my daughter's mother, who eventually left me. Even now, some 25 years later, she is the standard by which all compare. She has since passed away, and is remembered with honor.My poem also references one of the greatest songs ever written (I hate it). Willie Nelson brings tears to my eyes with "to all the girls I've loved before" !
Thank you for reading this. Its about a lifetime of struggle. Struggle with myself. Struggle with women. Struggle with the world. I've learned so much. Twenty is just a generalization ladies. There have not been that many - it just seems that way. Whatever you are looking for ladies, twenty-one is a lucky number.
