The Scottish Wild Cat

This cat avoids people like the plague
it hates to be touched by humans
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I live my life wild and free
I was here 500 hundred years
before there were wolves
bears came along 1000 years later
Mankind is very new, I walked this world
millions of years before they arrived
I am an animal who lives a secret life
wild places are where I like to be
Staying in heavily forested areas
is my favourite habitat although
I also roam the Scottish hills
and live near to flowing water
Hunting by stealth I catch my prey
usually I eat a mouse or rabbit
although I am also partial to lamb
I will fight to the death for freedom
I can sprint at 30 miles an hour
muscularly built just watch me climb
in a flash I am gone hidden from sight
often you won't even know I am there
If a golden eagle tries to take my kits
I will fight to the death saving them
four kittens I will usually raise
who stay with me until 5 or 6 months
Exceptional hearing helps me find prey
my ears can rotate independently 180 degrees
my night sight seven times better than man
my taste is purely for meat not anything sweet
Leave me alone and I won't bother you
if you corner me I will bite through a gantlet
I like to fish and will sometimes even swim
a small deer I will also hunt down and kill
Intelligent, fearless I am resourceful
patient, very agile I will drop down
from a tall tree landing on my feet
a genuine super predator so beware
Mysterious, independent and wild of spirit
I will remain long after you are long gone
epitomising that a cat cant be kept down
I will rove this planet another million years
Storm at Sea
The storm gathers strength
air increasing its wavelength
clouds rush as past they scurry
the cold creates a snow flurry
the winds fight as they battle
cold against warm they rattle
out to sea the waves gigantic
as they rush across the Atlantic
building up into a hurricane
tossing like balsam the plane
the waves below broiling
for war they are spoiling
the ocean their playground
eerie, the lights and sound
of the clashing clouds
bodies will fill the shrouds
before the peace returns
until then the world burns
as nature's anger subsides
and the souls peace abides
A ROBIN'S WOE
Maney a mile she travles to meet her mate of desire. He sing a song to let her know he is home. Together they build a nest of mud,stick,and dry grass. Together they stay and then one day an egg of bright blue and delacate too. Now there are three eggs up in that tree. One bright morning light along comes a magpie in flight. He sees opportunity to attack and now three has become two. Mother robin looks at her nest in grievous distress. Next day has come and a new battle has begun. That rotten crow has not one but two, papa dive bombs and mama secrams,but calamity has won.
The Day is Done
The day is done, its now night
a full moon shines down
the badger leaves his sett
starts to forage for his food
silently the owl flies
seeking a mouse or two
all is still and quiet
as clouds pass the moon
listen to the nightingale
singing out in the night
melodious his voice
clear the notes ring out
the nightjar's harsh tones
join in as the bat flies
seeking his supper
some fruit and flies
rustles from the undergrowth
the sleepy dormouse stirs
deep in his nest
pokes out his nose
decides its not safe
back to sleep he drops
he will wait for daylight
before he hunts his grub
as night draws to its end
all the night creatures go
back to their sleeping places
they now wait for night again
Our Wonderful World
Beauty is in all around
take a delicate flower
its petals slowly unfurl
as the sun shines down
The colours and the scent
released for all to enjoy
the wondrous aroma
teases the nostrils
The butterfly lands
attracted by the nectar
wings gently flapping
as it sips in delight
Bees buzz lazily
they too will feast
then make some honey
which we will eat
Oh the rolling hills
ablaze with colours
the heather seems afire
different hues abound
As I look around
I feel so glad
to be able to see
and to be alive
what a marvelous world
the sound of the brook
as it cascades down
add harmonious sounds
I pause awhile
taking in the peace
the magic of it all
mother nature at her best
Cool Waters
deep is the water of the lagoon
filled with many kinds of things
the more you look the more you see
reflected clouds floating in the water
a host of wondrous plants on the banks
little fish darting hither and tither
tall reeds are casting mottled shadows
deep down a big catfish lies in ambush
the cool waters a pure bliss to watch
rippling waves setting off flashes
different colours glint and shatter
like light beams hitting coloured shards
the tranquillity of this magical place
calls out to me beckoning me closer
I lay on the grassy bank trailing a hand
in the soft water and feel I am restored
keep this place secret just for us to share
come here whenever the outside world is too much
here a blissful peace awaits to bathe you
to bring comfort and soothe away the daily pains
Colour
Stop!
Red!
Baby!
Blue!
So many hues!
Confused,
with palatable glee.
Vibrant yet dull shades;
compare and contrast.
Deep emotions revived in a thought.
Red!
Room!
Yellow!
Broom!
White!
Clouds!
Blue!
Sky!
About this poem:
I was really just sitting at a table and looked at my daughters gigantic box of crayons. I thought about how we relate colors to various things around us.
A Star Without a Name
A Star Without a Name
When a baby is taken from the wet nurse,
it easily forgets her
and starts eating solid food.
Seeds feed awhile on ground,
then lift up into the sun.
So you should taste the filtered light
and work your way toward wisdom
with no personal covering.
That's how you came here, like a star
without a name. Move across the night sky
with those anonymous lights.
Beautiful and Rare
The sun is rising, peeking above the water.
It’s the beginning of a brand new day.
A gentle breeze is coming off the ocean.
I love the way it makes the palm trees sway.
Taking life, slow and easy
On the island where it’s warm and breezy
Never a worry, never a care
A piece of paradise
So beautiful and rare.
As I go walking, barefoot along the shoreline.
I love the feeling of my toes in the sand.
Living here on this island paradise,
I realize this is simply who I am.
Taking life, slow and easy
On the island where it’s warm and breezy
Never a worry, never a care
A piece of paradise
So beautiful and rare.
The day is done; the sun melts in the water.
I head off to bed with a smile on my face.
Snuggled in your arms tonight, my lady,
This is paradise regardless of the place.
Living life, slow and easy
This may sound just a little bit cheesy
There’s never a worry, never a care
You’re my paradise
So beautiful and rare.
About this poem:
I've always had an affection for the islands.....even though I;ve never been...the poems I write are what I perceive as song lyrics....but being void of any musical ability...they are just words.
