Haiku 1 (diamonds in the snow---)

what new plant is this?
flowering bees this morning
and butterflies too

at the roadside
solitary flowering weed
vision of loveliness

look! in the garden
the poinsettia is bringing
its first Christmas

walk softly please
streetlights are making
diamonds in the snow

blown in with the wind
hummingbird nuzzles a bloom
and is blown away again

perched on the treetops
iguana closes its eyes
soaking in the sunshine

the new doorkeeper
of this deserted house
one mister spider

loud feathered thud
- flight into eternity
deceptive glass pane

About this poem:
For those who may not know, Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry. The standard structure consists of three lines in which the first line consists of five syllables, the second has seven syllables and the third has five syllables.
"Haiku is a finger pointing at the moon. If the hand is bejewelled, we no longer see that to which it points." The idea is to draw attention to what is being said and not to the words used to say it.

Wishes

May flowers grow in your footprints
May birds sing outside your window
May your smile warm a sunbeam
May the leaves sigh to you as they fall
May the wind caress your face as it blows
May the raindrops glitter to your touch

Caribbean summer love

My caribbean summer love,
Was morning sun in the sand
On the sweet Jamaican, island
Home of my mothers birth land.

As I got off the plane
I knew, I was home.
Warm winds blowing on my face
So, gentle was the breeze
"lord have mercy"
What's happening to me?

I went to my destination,
I walked down, to the sea.
The heart was filled, with such glee
As sunshine beamed, down on me.

My breakfast was filled,
With fresh vegetation.
Ground provisions of every kind.
Fruits from every tropical tree,
It was simply Devine.

The sweetest fruit I tasted, wasn't
A apple, plum or pear.
It was a delicious mango,
That even Adams girlfriend eve,
Would not share.

The ocean mesmerizing,
Blue crystal sky's, as clear as can be
It was so magnificent & amazing,
Pure tranquility.

My eyes could not believe,
Lush green landscape.
The sway of coconut trees
Vibrant colors, red, yellow & green
Flowers decorate, my scenery.

I had to stop and ask god?
Is this heaven, as I continued on my journey.

The next stop was Dunn's RIver Falls
Streaming from the river, into the ocean floor.
I climed, each rock carefully
Just in awe, of this natural beauty.

Didn't need a watch, roosters crowing tic toc on the dot
As time briefly stoped. To marvel at this creation
No scientist on earth, could ever top!!!

Later that evening the moon lit my way,
To where I could hear, sweet reggae music play.
Everyone was dancing, from soca, pop to r&b
The rhythmic sounds, all around at a big beach party.

I had, Jerk chicken, on the beach ,
fried fish cooking near, deliciousness filled the air
My caribbean summer love,
True, happiness being there!!!

Valiant Rose

The very early sudden snow storm
has caught out the rose bush
there amidst two feet of snow
bravely it opens its scarlet petals

A vivid bright spectacle against
the pure white new snow drifts
I look realising that as it struggles
proudly fighting the harsh conditions

Standing stately tall and unphased
seeming to give itself a good shake
as if to say, bring it on, do your worst
whatever you throw at me I will survive

So thus are there parallels in life
adversity rears its ugly head
when you are least expecting it
taking you unawares, off guard

Now do you go boldly forth?
display your glory to all around?
or do you fold up and give in?
the choice is in our own hands

hmmm..........

there is a stillness
not a breath
no movement of cloud
no wind to caress
not a sound
as if time stood still
gentle is the sea
from yonder window sill
hidden sun
under a blanket of grey
no way to get out
no way to play
not once not twice
but three days in a row
perception of life
is to go slow
put the brakes on
and slip into the groove
let the essence of the day
depict how you move........

no title

tell far as the mighty can fall looking up to remember
lying in a broken shell of youths arrogance
as we learn to speak again
with lips stained green in the blue of humility
drawn with the quaintest of smiles

The Miracle of Rebirth

There was a hush everywhere
as if the world was on pause
an expectancy stirring in the air
not a single sound just silence

What was happening out there?
far away, deep in the outback
a circle stood made of animals
each with ears pricked forward

Staring intently, still as statues
hardly a breath being drawn
in the middle giving birth
A beauteous snow white deer

The fawn is born, a collective sigh
stirs from the spell bound audience
here she is, the promised princess
a plaintive cry as she struggles to her feet

There in the moonlight she stands
regal from the tip of her nose
proudly her mother shows her off
Bambi moves forward to join them

Trembling legs all going each way
Bambi nuzzles her as she stands
this he seems to say is my heir
all the animals approach and kneel

Paying their homage to Silver
exclaiming at her beauty
peace will reign the forest
all drawn together by the birth

Call of the Wild

Fiery nostrils flaring, sniffing for danger
the mustang checks throughout his kingdom
he can smell something, a stranger
eyes glinting he heads for freedom

He stands in silhouette at the top of the hill
and screams his defiance for all to hear
the men gathered for the round up thrill
to see him standing there without peer

The mustang whirls and from sight he flees
mane flapping, tail streaming what a picture
the men follow but its like they are on donkeys
they pull up and watch him go in rapture

For yet another day maybe much more
he's free to roam where he desires
he heads off to pastures new on the moor
leaving men to dream around their campfires

The Snows of Winter

The snow silently cloaked the land
falling slowly but insistently
creating large drifts against the walls
bigger and bigger get the flakes

A world of white where ever you look
gnashed here and there by trees
sticking up their bare branches
which are now also snow laden

Sheep struggle through the drifts
helped by the shepherd and dogs
fast as a flash the collies mark
until the shepherd digs them out

Still relentlessly the snow falls
roads and trails disappear from sight
I look out over the white landscape
and feel as if I am in the clouds

Flowers and Sky

Tulips in the beds
wave their beautiful petals
the sun beams on them

Roses glimmering
jewels every one of them
a perfect picture

Star light cloaks the world
each a twinkling delight
a promise of dreams
