When More Is Less

I will work 56 hours this week
Before taxes I will make about 880 dollars
Sound like a lot
And it is
But
What is the dollar worth today compared to 1900?
It takes 21 dollars today to equal one dollars value in 1900
So the real wage is about 42 dollars
But what about taxes too?
There weren't any in 1900
Now after paying 33% on overtime and about 21% on regular wages
Take that 42 dollars and you get 31.50
What inventions existed in 1900?
No air conditioning
No cable or cell phones
Not even cars
So you take all the money it takes to afford those luxuries
What do you have left?
At the end of the day it doesn't add up
All I know is health critics were warning people in 1900
Don't eat too much steak!
I can't remember the last time I had steak!

About this poem:
Listening to Ron Paul and the shrinking value of the US dollar. We really are working harder and harder for less and less. I would buy a cell phone, but I like to eat!

IED

IED
Improvised
Explosive
Device
Hundreds of thousands of soldiers come back
Scarred by these devices
Some show their scars
Like the man who took my money at the hockey game
Making change with one hand and a stump on the other arm
Many more suffer the mental scars unseen
Anxiety, depression, dark memories, nightmares
Recovery comes in many forms
Making masks to show their true faces
The ones that hide in their minds
Climbing mountains is another way
Princess Diana fought against these bombs
Many millions still lie in wait in countries all over the world
Landmines from the Vietnam War and others
Improvised Explosive Devices

About this poem:
I was reading an article in my latest National Geographic about the soldiers making masks as a part of their therapy and recovery from injuries to their brains from the shock waves created by these IEDs.

{Change}

[ Change ]

[Change is the change
of identity on facebook,
where you are only on cookbook!

Change is the difference
of doing business in East than West
where crony capitalism is best!

Change is the currency
of notes, bills, coins,
where human capital also joins!

Change is the attitude
of people towards sexuality
where love can be a causality!

Change is a human nature
for man & woman in relationship
where each struggles for partnership!

Change is the transformation
of parties in hues of politics
where power of money is game of ethics!

Change is the merging
a town of two border states
where upmanship was at stake!

Change is the struggle
for freedom from orthodoxy
where man is buried in methodology!

Change is a change of rule
from one nation to another
where greed and power gather!

Change is a shift
in climate from hot or cold
where Mother Nature acts bold!

Change is a plan
for IPL team for surprise win
where everyone will grin!

Change is a twist
of story in fiction novel
where readers would marvel!

Change is in the thinking
of person from poverty to affluence
where discomfort & comfort confluence!

Change is a change
from one change to another change
where only change is game of change!]

About this poem:
I keep thinking how this world is moving and I see that nothing is static. What fashion is to-day, the next day it vanishes; every day there is something new. This concept kept me thinking and I wrote this poem for a "change"

Patterns

Self-conscience and self-aware
but only when empathy can take us there
For when we think we're better than we are
and we don't care when we don't bare the scare
Preaching God loves all without prejudice
and never understanding the truth in this
Then our opposing views end in war and death
that leaves the children behind to clean up the mess

Self-involved and self-absorbed
we don't even know what the fightings for
Maybe the color of your skin
or maybe this god, because you don't believe in him
When we can't think beyond ourselves
to all the starving that need our help
Spending all our money to perpetuate the fight
as the children are left cold and alone at night

Self-evolved and it's self-evident
we never really knew what freedom meant
Far away and well displaced
we never had to see our enemy face to face
Only soldiers paid to watch them die
are left with nightmares of how they cried
With blind eyes we vote on war and death
then rebuild their towns so we can kill them again

These patterns need to break
So we can end this fear and hate
All I'm trying to say
Is somethings got to change

Dementia

Years Later

I have written about love, written about fate
I have written about war, written about hate
I have written about you, I have written about me
I have layed my heart out there for the world to see
I have bared my soul, never holding back
I have written about beauty and about my heart turning black
I have shared so much emotion, with so much depth
I have written about suicide when there was nothing left
And many years later, I write about truth
Of deception, tears, and letting go of you
I have written about dreams, and reoccurring nightmares
And many years later, they are still there
I have written about death, written about perfection
And what it is I see, when i see my reflection
A young boy with wild bewildering eyes
But like a flame doused with water, that too has died
I have learned from my mistakes, made a few more
It's like being trapped in a forever revolving door
I have put blood to pen, pen to paper
I have written about religion and forsaking the Maker
I have written with my tears falling down my cheek
I have written about being strong when I felt so weak
I have shared my fears with many, many others
But I know deep down inside, there's so much more to discover

Ode To A Policeman

The policeman is the strongest man in the world
As he can hold up all the traffic with just one hand
But there is a serious side to the policeman,
A protector of the innocent, a man who will risk his life
For anyone, no matter what walk of life,
Fearless of the ever present danger surrounding him,
He is often shunned by the public,
Underestimated by criminals and accused of corruption,
But is never given the credit he rightly deserves.
People should take a better view about this unsung hero
Of our times, the policeman.

About this poem:
This narrative poem is a retrospective view of the policeman, as seen through the eyes of most people.

Inside you, there is a ‘song’…

“Inside you there is a ‘song’,
And unless you sing it, your life will be miserable and an utter failure,
Also, only you know what that ‘song’ is,
How will you know your ‘song’?
When you think of this ‘song/activity/calling/career, etc.’, your whole skin tingles with delight, your soul opens up and you feel like you’re snuggled right up to the God-Force,
And your love overflows to all of creation…”

The Cowardly Dog Rides Again

I saw you here last Thursday night
Oh what a sight you were
Dressed in all your finery
A tie around your neck

Had you learned anything
I wondered as I saw
You strutting around in peacock's finery
And looking ever so grand

But then as your mouth it gaped
The vileness all dripped out
Words on words all spewed forth
My heart it sank so low

There she stood almost in tears
Trembling so in fright
Her only sin that I could see
She didn't serve you quite in haste

What gives you the right to think
You're better than all the rest
Just because she's here to serve
You can use your abusive tongue

You are such a cowardly dog
As you hide behind your words
Just because you're a Sesquipedalianist
Does not make you better at all

money makes pain...

We need money to live better
Someone lives for money
And others living in money
Others are not aware about money
Someone kills and someone killed for it
And started war only for this
Finally every one goes to end
Which cannot stop by money?
So money will make more pain…

First time

Dont put the hammer down on me
Dont put the hammer down on me
You've made a mistake,cant you see
I'm supposed to be free

Dont put those chains on me
Dont put those chains on me
Whe're all the facts to be
I'm supposed to be free

Dont shut the door on me
Dont shut the door on me
This rooms to small for me
I'm supposed to be free

Aint no windows i can see
Aint no windows i can see
Is that where i have to pee
I'm supposed to be free

That bed's no good for me
That bed's no good for me
It will never let sleep be
I'm supposed to be free

Cant eat the food for me
Cant eat the food for me
It goes straight through me
I'm supposed to be free

Who's gonna visit me
Who's goona visit me
Anyone interested in me
I'm supposed to be free

How long will this take me
How long will this take me
3 to 5 an you'll be free
I'm supposed to be free

Should never had pleaded guilty
Should never had pleaded guilty
Its goin to crucify me
I'm supposed to be me
