Welcome To New CS Poets

Welcome to all newbies on Poetry Corner
It's a place to share various types of poetry
To write and post any form you desire
And on any topic once it's not smutty

Feel free to comment on others' poems here
It's welcome once it is done constructively
It's a poets' community that we share
That should maintain decorum and dignity

Focus on the quality of your poetry
And continue to improve it with each write
Through your sustained effort and tenacity
Your true poetic talent will come to light

You can write on any theme you desire
Regardless of the themes that are posted here
Variety will serve to enhance the corner
And widen the range of poems that we share

About this poem:
There has been a lot of activity recently here on Poetry Corner. Several of the more senior poets seem to have taken a break. Let's hope they return soon. In the meantime, several new poets have appeared. This piece is a welcome to them. Poetry is larger than any individual or group of indivduals. The show must go on. I invite all poets, including the new, to post their views on Poetry Corner. We can all benefit from each others' views. Thanks!

Stress at School (for SG)

Each weekday I must go to school
To face class assignments and tests
My parents tell me remain cool
But I am worn out from the stress

Teacher says I can top the class
If I work just a bit harder
To me that's a very tough task
I'm not sure I can deliver

Still, I too wish to do better
And honestly feel that I could
So I shall strive to try harder
And must do whatever I should

I shall heed my folks and teacher
And seek to do my very best
Perhaps I can find an answer
By learning to cope with the stress

Where there's a will, there is a way
I must stand up and face the stress
And I look forward that some day
I'll finally achieve success

Self Discipline

What has to be done must be done
Lazing around just will not pay
Grab hold of yourself and move on
Do what you have to do today

Despite the mood you may be in
Know time and tide wait for no one
Get busy, start the ball rolling
If not, you will be overrun

Hold on and sustain the effort
Though you may not feel to do so
Stand firmly for no matter what
Be assured success will follow

Flash Point

We all have our limit,
Just how much we can take,
Til we blow a gasket,
Before we start to break.

Some go off so easy,
Their trigger is a hair.
Always on the threshold,
Without a nerve to spare.

I am not so touchy,
And can take quite a bit.
But when I've had enough,
There comes that raging fit.

Anger clouds the senses,
Throws judgement out the door,
Blows out of proportion,
And shakes us to the core.

So let's all try and see,
If we can raise the bar,
Maybe all together,
Perhaps prevent a war.

The Corner

Hangin' out on the corner is,
A fine pastime that educates.
With poems from all walks of life,
It sometimes even leads to dates.

The subjects too are varied wide,
From love to hate and all between.
From flow'rs and trees to cars and boats,
It really is a happ'nin' scene.

It teaches and it entertains,
From minds and hearts around the globe.
With worlds of words that cross the seas,
To hit you in the frontal lobe.

Community, comraderie,
With comments kind in thoughtful prose.
Emoticons add style and flash,
Usually add some of those.

Sometimes our tears are brought to eyes,
From verses touching from the heart.
And others make us laugh out loud,
With silly lines from some ol' fart.

All I Have

I don't have a plane or a yacht,
Or a big fine house on the bay.
Not a business czar or mogul,
Nor a statesman or potentate.

No I don't have much to offer,
Of material worldly things.
Have no claims to fame or fortune,
No shining star and never been.

What I do have can't be measured,
And no it can't be bought or sold.
So then for some it has no value,
Because it has no worth in gold.

Only things I have to offer,
Are just my heart that's pure and true,
And a mind and soul and body,
That I will dedicate to you.

If to you these things have meaning,
You understand whereof I speak,
Then we just may have a future.
Let's take a chance on you and me.

Love Fear

As we seek to find our partners,
To cherish and adore,
We're haunted by the specters,
Of those who've gone before.

The ones that hurt us badly,
And those who let us down,
Sweet lovers we loved madly,
Who played us for a clown.

Always hoping for the best,
We try again and then,
Find that it's like all the rest,
And we get hurt again.

So fear and trepidation,
Are understandable,
And even sad privation,
May seem prefer-able.

But love will never find us,
If we don't take the chance,
So come, let's let it blind us,
Please, may I have this dance?

Broken And Beautiful

A mould-shaped symmetrical bowl
has no character of its own
It's just like the mould-shaped others
and it is merely a clone
If the bowl is shattered to pieces
and the pieces stuck together once more
It creates a beautiful mosaic
that one cannot help but adore

The bark on the trunk of a young sapling
is just like that of any young tree
It is like an unwritten page
which is plain and ordinary
With age the bark gets cracked and broken
and acquires its own uniqueness
It provides a home for many insects
and becomes a thing of loveliness

About this poem:
Perhaps, it is because of the experience of being broken by hurt, and the suffering that goes with it, in whatever area of life, that we are able to experience greater depths of happiness at a later time.
Kahlil Gibran says:
"The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain."
Perhaps, it is within the very cracks of our brokenness that we can discover a new joy and beauty that we may not be able to experience if we were not cracked and broken.
I wish to dedicate this piece to those who have experienced acute pain and suffering in their lives, whether in romantic love or otherwise.
Remember the words of Kahlil Gibran!

To Our Lady Diana

You are a mother and a Christian soldier
Always ready to stand up for another
You have made your mark here on Poetry Corner
With your cheerfulness, wit and sense of humour

Your poetry displays a deep sincerity
That's a projection of your inner beauty
We know you have your responsibility
And we wish you will always be happy

Alchemy of the Soul

An iron will, a heart of gold,
It's true, these two can dwell in one.
As sure as one blue sky can hold,
The rising moon and setting sun.

When chararacter is forged by life,
To stand the tests that fate does bring,
It hones an edge just like a knife,
That cuts through lies that others fling.

But heart is born inside us all,
Each child has love enough to give,
And those ignoring evil's call,
Can love as long as they shall live.

A heart of gold, an iron will,
Though rare, we all have met a few,
Who's currents run neath waters still,
Strength and compassion coursing through.
