Words succinctly remind us tonight
it is, after all, a no-cost dating site
no more, and certainly, no less
on this defense my argument will rest.
This much, too, I must, dutifully, confess
It is not Forums, nor Blogs to address
nor Videos viewed, nor Games played
not Flowerbox planted nor Photos displayed
nor eCards or Mailbox to receive or to send
or Polls to take or Groups to jump in
No Articles of import inserted to share
nor Online Now to see who is there.
Not one of the Tags, colored, small, large
that shout how different or alike we each are
Nor a post or review of one’s favorite CD
Music categorized for enjoyment by you, by me.
Nor one of the 248 pages of Movies, so far, shared
to see what others watch and get to know who cared.
Nor your favorite Books list complete with fans
where The Secret reigns, so at the top it lands.
But rather Poetry, a corner where poets reside
to share with the reader what lives and dies inside
that pours onto paper from the sweat of the pen
risks being judged “mediocre”, beginning to end
thoughts, hopes, ideas, what appears in vivid dreams
captured in rhyming or un-rhyming verse that streams
byte-by-byte through the internet ether, with hope on wing
to resonate, a tear or smile to each reader might bring.
As words succinctly remind us tonight
we’re connected through this no-cost site
so, by now you can, in good humor, guess,
my “mediocre” poem finds a quiet place to rest.

Falling in love for the first time
can be very exciting at the start
But such love is usually not long-lasting
and may lead to a broken heart
A person whose heart has been broken
seeks a love that is more mature
When found such love heals the broken heart
and is more beautiful and likely to endure

Even as I write this, I know I'll be criticized
But I don't really care because this is what I feel inside
I just wish I could erase these thoughts in my head
Waking up to another dreadful morning, wishing I was dead
I use to be full of hope and love, now I'm angry and sour
I feel like a rat in a cage full of snakes, waiting to be devoured
And it's not like i haven't thought of suicide, hell a couple of times I tried
Once with a shotgun in my mouth, that jammed, and the other with a dulling kitchen knife
It just feels like I have a thousand demons digging through my brain
Feasting on every memory of happiness until nothing else remains
And my mother, God bless her soul, tells me to turn all my problems over to the Lord
But with every passing second, it seems I question Him more and more
Damnit, I can't take it, my heart no longer feels and my soul is torn
And asking me to go to church would be like asking a nun to do porn
It just won't happen because my faith has been replaced with doubt
And I won't go just to be seen because that's not what it should be about
There's too many hypocrits in this world and I've never been part of the "in crowd"
So I'll just keep hoping that one day God will hear me before my misery causes me to drown

We fought like cats and dogs as kids,
But made up as we grew.
Yet loved each other all along,
That, at least, we knew.
Though only three years older than,
She thought it made her boss.
But I did not take orders well,
And ev'ry line would cross.
She married young, and not so well,
Divorced then right away.
He used her to get papers so,
Stay in the USA.
Then tragedy struck later on,
Blood vessel in her brain.
Six months in a coma as,
Our mother prayed in vain.
Though over thirty years ago,
It still hurts to the bone.
A fighter to the end, you see,
Was my big sister, Joan.

Some folks feel they have the right,
To admonish and advise.
They think that their opinion,
Should just always override.
Hot words or inuendo,
Sometimes subtle others bold.
Who do they think that they are?
What gives them the right to scold?
Them thinking they're so clever,
Really just gives me a pain.
They could do so much better,
If their own lives they'd arrange.
With their meddling in the lives,
And affairs of other folks,
What hope have they of finding,
True happiness of their own?
So don't throw your monkey wrench,
Into other's cogs and gears.
Just tend to your own business,
Cause you'll find no takers here.

Another year all shiny new,
What will it bring? How will we do?
Will there be fame and fortune great?
Will all our troubles then abate?
Some moan and wail in sad lament,
About time wasted, poorly spent.
Oh how has all our precious time,
Gone up in smoke while we reclined?
The past is past no need to cry,
Don't waste your tears or even sigh.
With each new dawn new hopes arise,
In every night stars fill our skies.
Let this year bring good times to all,
Peace and comfort on each befall.
May love be strong and pure and true,
My fervent wish to all of you.

Honesty is the best policy
That's a lesson I was taught at school
But today in a world of trickery
Is that merely advice for a fool?
One time a person's word was his bond
A handshake was used to seal a deal
Today, no oath can be relied on
For some are always trying to steal
I shall be honest in my action
For to myself I have to be true
In each and every situation
No matter what others say or do
Peace of mind is most important to me
That's why I shall always strive to be free
To act in all truth and sincerity
For honesty is the best policy

About this poem:
I tried to write this poem in the style of some poems I learned and loved as a child. I have a special fondness for balanced rhyming poems. I think they are easier for children to learn. I believe it is important for children to learn the importance of honesty and I dedicate this poem to them.

Some folks like to complain
And are very fickle
They fume when rain is falling
And fret at a mere drizzle
Wild birds and animals
They all need the rain
Which gives them water
For their lives to sustain
The plants and the trees
And all the lovely flowers
For them to grow and flourish
They also need the showers
The food crops that are grown
To provide food for us all
Each of them would perish
If the rain did not fall
So please think of these things
Before you start complaining
And creating a lot of fuss
The next time rain is falling

We all have a hard luck story,
A sad sob tale to tell.
No more songs of fame and glory,
Just tolling of the bell.
I've heard them all from near and far,
No joy seems to be had.
I lost my job, my wife, my car,
My luck has all been bad.
The skies are grey, the wind is cold,
My health is failing fast.
You hear these stories often told,
The end has come at last.
No sad songs any more I sing,
The bluebird's on my sill.
With sunshine to my life you bring,
My heart with joy you fill.
So tell me not the tales of woe,
Won't hear them any more.
Just sing me songs soft, sweet and low,
Of happiness in store.

You turn your head,
And my heart breaks.
To see that smile,
Upon your face.
How long's it been?
I cannot tell.
That day you left,
And darkness fell.
All of the tears,
And broken dreams.
Bury my face,
None hear my screams.
I hope she's worth,
This broken home.
A single mom,
Wife all alone.
This story's old,
Before my time.
A man who cheats,
Far past his prime.
All those who would,
Please hear this call.
Lust fades away...
Love Conquers All!
