I picked up and in a speed-scan, in between was as usual merely Greeking but the hats was attention grabbing. I took an English challenged cohabitant car shopping one summer afternoon (she having just written off another car at red traffic lights) and in the shower that night realised the benefits of a hat on a balding pate, a hat I had not worn that day. She, wisely, had carried a black umbrella, although I wonder about the choice of colour. But, 'hats'?
Every time I hear someone say doubleyou doubleyou doubleyou dot etc etc I have an urge to tell them: 'It's wripple you, or ripple you, save your tongue and save our ears! wripple-you I tell you.
@jac indeed there are, when I ride my bicycle to the top of the immediate hill I can see them there in the west, our very own Blue Mountains, blue from the eucalyptus oil, Katoomba Three sisters and all ... (not these three are visible however) . Katoomba at its towering elevation of 1017m! The intrepid explorers who crossed them in 1812 I think, hard going then, and no bicycles!
@flyme you are doing a great impersonification of a BLOG bore... go over in a corner and chat to @Fourcheeses why don't you?
@Rizla I didn't like the guns aggressive begging and guards in MM and Quezon.. Batangas was ok, except for the church belting out their own 5am call to prayer. That was back on Marcos days however. I always felt quite at home in provincial China
Is there actually a mountain in Holland? I see Vaalsberg ato 320m is the pinnacle of the Netherlands, quaint that it has berg in the name! Dreiländereck - Ecke does sound more appropriate
@melody as to Mexian or Spanish ... there are a lot more Mexicans than Spanish/Venez/Columbian/Chilean... - so too there are a lot more Americans than British/Canadian/Australian/NZ combined, but much fewer than Indianglish!
@mic so that's the Murikun way is it - humour and solutions come from the hip? Bit difficult to fire a shotgun from the hip, no matter how sawn off it might be. 300+ million guns, now if you were all to take aim and fire at the same time, the buffaloes could take over the prairies again, and the Murikin covid problem would be gone in an instant. But you thought it would be entertaining no doubt.
to look for Portuguese speakers to exchange with. Plentry of Brazilians and Portuguese students there willing to exchange, but not sure about seekers of Romanian, mostly wanting to exchange English and Portuguese.
@joy well now there is no united people, two divided people, and if you look at some of the blogs here, people talk openly of secession and rebellion. I don't think it will happen, but it is scary indeed.
@joycrest Oh, the Marcos era... memories! I happened to be in Batangas August 1983, when Benigno Aquino was getting off the plane. The gun is mightier than the pen after all, and does the job a lot quicker. Then later celebrating with my wife's friends after the People's Power revolution, the Yellow Revolution, 1986
There is also the antithetical but related DTS - Deranged Trump Syndrome - that is very much in evidence right at the moment. There is a Wiki article with this TDS title created May 2018 by Jimmy Piersall...
notwithstanding nonetheless and nevertheless - very popular with IELTS students - awful English but useful to bump your IELTS score for visa or study abroad. IELTS doesn't teach English, it teaches scoring 6.5 or 7 and succeeding at the IELTS test, and encourages test and re-test to generate exorbitant test fees. Hardly the topic of conversation, but at least relevant to conjunctions. Remember Cook's tour of the Pacific and the Transit of Venus, Tahiti June 3rd 1769 by any chance? Happened recently, every 243 years in pairs - last two in 2004 and 2012
What accrues is indeed heaping up - a heap of manure.
And as for varied and plentiful - try fanciful, imaginary and delusional
Or are you actually envisaging open riot and revolution? Suppose the Republican minority could thwart the will of the people, do you think the thwarted people would tolerate that - 300+ million weapons in God's given country ... idiots.
Now we really do have a syndrome going - believe the impossible dream - there is a small but loud claque of you here all with this same collection of delusions.
Cilantro or Coriander - yet another weirdness of the Murikins! You can keep your Gallons and Fahrenheit and Cilantro, but why oh why? Look for the 15/64ths spanner and bounce it off your stubborn skulls!
Two things about the absence of a CD... The all-in-one computer I bought early 2019: 1. I just noticed earlier this week, it doesn't have a CD/DVD 2. I just noticed this week! Meaning almost two years and never needed one. I do however have a little take-away plastic box full of USB Flashdrives.
Groan - the stacks of VCRs, CDs and DVDs Piano Roll, 78s, 45, LP, Reel-to-reel, Cassette, Betamax, VHS, VCR, CD, DVD all 'gone the way of the Dodo' except perhaps for a revival of LPs. I do remember moving house and dumping them nearly 30 years ago, and selling box loads of my mothers enormous classical collection. Now I am faced with the stacks of CDs and VCRs to be transcribed and ditched in the same way. I guess I can buy a VCR - USB interface
Speaking of fake, there is a certain drongo claiming to be from Wuhan. As I said earlier, at least 80% of those claiming to be from Americanwho are definitely fakes too. I think this particular fake has previously claimed Guangzhou as his home.
@honey this particular knife indeed cuts both ways. 80+% of my likes and emails are from 30-something gorgeous American women who want to talk to me 'via email'... of these I respond to or reply to approximately 0.00000%
The one good thing he did achieve was to prove that throwing the baby out with the bathwater is no way to overcome dissatisfaction with the 'traditional political party' model. Both parties and people now have an opportunity to learn and adapt, unlikely though it may be that any of them will grasp it.
@sg4u 'a beacon of hope for qanon followers' is a good thing? is it good to encourage demented delusion and obsessive thinking? qanon represents something to be desired?
RE: Get Out Of Town
A very ordinary song by Cole Porter's standards ... how does The Goodbye look relate to Get out of town?
