RE: living w/o modern conveniences?

ghd's are NEVER to be out of your sight!!!!!! Guard them with your life, mine go everywhere with me.....and I have a spare pair still boxed just in case.

RE: living w/o modern conveniences?

Having travelled extensively with my work I've encountered many situations where I've been without.....well practically everything you can imagine that I thought I needed to survive. After a few hours or sometimes longer (if it's more serious like a prolonged lack of electricity or water), of total panic, everything kind of relaxes and gets into proportion (especially when you realise you aren't going to die!), Adjustments are made, other hobbies or avenues of communication are pursued and life goes on.

Hate not being able to use my ghd hair straighteners though!

RE: Insecure friends...good friends?

jib don't really know what to say but I do remember another thread of yours very recently about needy friends. Do you really have such good friends is what I'm asking myself.

Fortunately I have many truly good and close friends in the UK and here in Spain and I can honestly say I have never experienced anything like this nor had those dark feelings about them that you seem to have had.

I believe you lack a little confidence, goodness knows why because you are a beautiful , intelligent woman....it's true, and this is the reason your 'more' beautiful friend was a tad jealous you.

RE: If given the choice................

Exactly Riya, free sterilisation cannot just be offered, or I suspect more to the point, encouraged, to many of these women without any kind of information and education. Even if educational projects were set up to facilitate such an idea, all the points you raised above would be very serious and valid stumbling blocks.

Hi Elena, somehow I had a feeling you'd turn up with your big red nose!

RE: here's the scenario..

No Indy it's not about money, it's about the taking away of something .....I don't know...special maybe, from a first date. I happily 'go dutch' on many dates and I wouldn't dream of taking out a coupon to pay on a date either.

RE: here's the scenario..

Me neither, as I've said, perhaps it's a cultural thing?

RE: if you are feeling down or upset, what do you do to make yourself feel better?

Friends are important at times like this, so I always phone one or two of them and we usually arrange a get together.

RE: here's the scenario..

Sorry forgot to quote, that was in repsponse to Bajanblue's post.

RE: here's the scenario..

Ah maybe but here in Spain we tend to eat tapas rather than individual plate meals when we go out with friends, so we all choose lots of small varieties and dig in!

RE: you didn’t think to ask online...

Good questions, some of which we don't find out until after we're married and that's why some of us get divorced!

RE: here's the scenario..

Nah that doesn't work.......we've seen the fumbling for the coupon in the pocket.

It's like when you go to a restaurant with a group of people and the usual way to pay, well in my experience, is simply to split the bill equally, but sometimes there's that somebody who says...."I didn't have a dessert....or a coffee....or that last drink..." It's just so tightfisted and says a lot about their personality.

RE: Emotional Blackmail

Don't you have free vet clinics? In the UK and Spain there are clinics which are free if you have found an animal in distress.

I realise you are an animal lover but the cat is not your responsibility.

Out of curiosity, what would you have done if you had been left to care for a very sick relative of his, would you feel so obligated?

I too love animals by the way so I'm not criticising, but I wouldn't let anybody do that to me however much I would feel bad about the consequences of returning the cat to him.

RE: here's the scenario..

America is very different then, I have never known a top class European restaurant to offer money off coupons, nor discounted meals. It may be a bit snobbish but it's not the done thing!

RE: here's the scenario..

I wouldn't like that either, it's rather tacky on a first date don't you think?

Although, in hindsight, if it was a reeeeally good restaurant I doubt the buy 1 get 1 free would be an option.

RE: CS JUST GETS BETTER AND BETTER!

Grrrrrrrrr....how did you do that? No don't tell me I'm sick of trying everybody's well intentioned advice and failing.

I did get the quote thing straightaway though. grin

RE: CS JUST GETS BETTER AND BETTER!

And I still can't post images, despite following all the advice. I wanted to post some photos of where I live on the International Forum thread but I'm too stooopid!!!!

RE: :SHOULD WE TERMINATE OUR "WELFARE" SYSTEM IN ALL THE STATES?

"The vast majority of immigrants are not eligible to receive any of these benefits for many years after their arrival in the United States. . . . Legal permanent residents cannot receive SSI [Supplemental Security Income], which is available only to U.S. citizens, and are not eligible for means-tested public benefits until 5 years after receiving their green cards."

Illegal immigrants are also ineligible for any kind of federal welfare benefits--with the exception of emergency health care. Many of the Congressional proposals to legalize this population would not allow these workers to collect welfare until waiting up to eight years for a green card and five years after that.

Is this untrue then?

RE: Who is fluent in Italian?

I was quoting omurchu in the first paragraph, not my words!
Still trying to get the hang of all this new CS stuff!

RE: Who is fluent in Italian?

type online translator into your google search engine...or type what language you wish to translate ie: english to spanish translator and take your pick of the listed translators...dead easy to use and it makes you look clever

Online translations are rubbish, that's why they are free and they can only translate literally which is usually incorrect and often just plain silly. These are best used for single word translations so Uli, as you said, you need someone who is fluent to translate well for you,

RE: made for each other

Exactly, we just don't know what's real here and for those people who say well yeah but it's the same in the real world because you don't really know somebody after an initial meeting, say in a pub. Rubbish! if you are face to face with somebody, firstly you know exactly what they look like....unlike here. Secondly, talking to somebody face to face, even for just 10 minutes, can be much more enlightening than a month of e-mail corrrespondence and phone calls.

RE: British Government banning some pets. More gov't interference! Leave the people alone!

Look, the fact that the British government gave some thought and comment to the matter means a great deal to the kids who signed their names to that poll.

Elephants equate to bad luck anyway!

rolling on the floor laughing

RE: CS. Why did you add the "Poll", feature ?

I agree they are rubbish, often worded poorly, and I think I have voted in perhaps three at most since they started.

They are also often diversive when names are brought into the equation.

Polls are not to be taken seriously and written posts are much more interesting to read (generally) than silly statistics.

I'm in a bad mood tonight!

RE: Photo Ratings

As others have said, turn the damn thing off!

It's not worth worrying about or analysing the whys and wherefores, everybody has different tastes and if you can't stomach that or if it's going to upset you don't put yourself through it.

Mine was turned off almost immediately and my comments were very flattering but I realised that it was all bull***t.

RE: Which Lady has the most creative, amusing, otherwise pleasing profile photos?

I am so surprised that you have started this poll. It's not because I'm not on it, my pics are neither creative nor captivating, but I woud never in a million years have thought that you Ambrose would dream up such a poll....and sorry to say I'm a little disappointed.

sigh
