RE: Are you intimidated by a professional female?

Speaking of reality, imagine if you will:
Scene: two men sitting at the bar...
'Dork one' says,"Oh I find that hard to believe..."
'Dork Two' says, "Really? I guess that I'll have to show you..."
Scene, 'Dork two sitting next to 'Professional woman':
"Well, hello there..." he says
"What is your sign? Can I buy you a drink?" he continues
She remains focused on her drink and keeps silent...
After a minute she says, looking at him through the corner of her eye, "I'll give you $100 to leave me alone."
Next scene, the two professional looking 'dorks' are again side by side down the bar. 'Dork One' says to 'Dork two',"I'll be darned...I would've bet everything I own that there's no such thing as a professional bachelor..."grin

Same here; 'professional women' as opposed to amateur women seems to sound as if they are tired, bored and dull; the old syndrome of 'been there, done that; life is boring'...amateur women sounds better...still full of hopes, dreams, full of Life, energized, having fun and not interested in becoming old and bored. "I dont often post stuff from the SW but I have links to so many diverse points of view - Im even reading a Marxist perspective of the differences between ant-semitism and anti-zionism at the moment and a couple of days ago I was quite surprised to find a couple of things I agreed with in the Times - there are many views to this conflict and Im doing my best to look at as many as possible.......... I do seem to be coming out on the side of anti-zionism though............" as quoted from Trish

Try finding a copy of the "Report To The General Assembly By The United Nations Special Committee On Palestine". from Geneva, Switzerland, 31 August, 1947(printed by His Majesty's Stationary Office) 1947 and a copy of the "United Nations Palestine Commission Report To The Special Assembly 1949", Lake Success, 19 April 1948....in which details the Zionist's strategies and tacticts used to undermine all efforts to bring about a common and just solution for a 'Jewish Homeland' within the existing State of Palestine and to destroy the Mandate of power by Britain which were clearly leading to a war of conquest by the Zionists.
The findings by the UN special committee's and commissions lays it all out; 90% will never appear in any history book. These reports are priceless. wave

RE: WHO IS OPPOSING PEACE IN GAZA ??

THE SOLUTION PART 2

1. Israeli withdrawal to the pre-1967 border. This withdrawal should be
accompanied by an Egypto-Jordanian declaration recognizing the
existence of Israel, and promising free navigation of the Suez Canal
and the Straits of Tiran.
The withdrawal is the only obligation incumbent on Israel.

2. Occupation by Neutral Troops
As soon as Israel withdraws, the areas between the Jordan River and
the Israeli border( hereafter referred to as the West Bank) should
immediately be occupied by neutral troops Smaller detachments could
also be placed at Al Arish and Sharm al Shaikh..
The Jordan government could provide civil servants and police for the
West Bank, but the Jordan army should remain east of the Jordan River.

3. RESETTLEMENT OF THE REFUGEES
The heart of the problem does not lie in making peace between Israel,
Egypt and Jordan, but in the resettlement of the native population of
Palestine, who have been forcibly evicted from their country.

4.Constructive Projects
When Israel has withdrawn to the pre-1967 line, one-fifth of the area
of Palestine will be freed to accommodate the population which
previously occupied the whole country.
A consortium of Great Powers, presumably under the auspices of
the United Nations, should then undertake to develop this area to
enable it to carry a larger population. The Palestinians are good
farmers but, of course, have no capital. Nor have they the technical
knowledge to undertake major projects. Considerable agricultural
development and a certain amount of industrialization are possible
in this area.

RE: WHO IS OPPOSING PEACE IN GAZA ??

Under international humanitarian law the right of refugees to return to their homes is an inalienable, individual human right. Like all human rights, it is invaluable and cannot be bought. Under Israel and Bush’s "solution", Palestinian refugee families who had been expelled from what is now Israel would be consigned to return, not to their homes, but to small, non-contiguous parts of less than 22% of their original homeland.
Jews from anywhere in the world, on the other hand, would be free to "return" to more than 78% of historic Palestine, frequently to live on land seized from those same Palestinian refugees.
Such clear discrimination against Palestinian refugees and privileging of Jews from anywhere in the world illustrates clearly that these proposals would further a separate but unequal solution that cannot result in peace." quoted from HiFi's post

Many years ago, I had the distinct honour to meet Sir John Bagot Glubb, aka "Glubb Pasha" CO of the famous Arab Legion who fought so valiantly against the Zionist terrorists and their murderous Stern and Irgun death squads, via the equaly famous British writer A.K. Chesterton (one can look them up to find out just who they were) one of our family's 'British cousins'.
Glubb Pasha tried to persuade the waring factions of Palestinians and the more civilized factions of Zionists of a possible settlement of the Zionist occupation of Palestine. I still have the copy I was given by him: (first published 1971)
"A Tentative Solution"
The word tentative is used of the followinf proposals, because it is
not intended that the Great Powers should impose a detailed solution,
which must obviously be worked out in consultation between all concerned.
It is suggested that the United Nations or the Great Powers should prepare
proposals on the basis of the following points, discuss them with the parties
concerned, and, if necessary, bring some form of political or economic
pressure on such as refuse to give a reasonable amount of co-operation.
The government of Egypt, Israel and Jordan are specifically mentioned
because it is they who have agreed to negotiate. It would be extremely
valuable to secure the co-operation of Syria also and, of course, of any
other Middle East governments, but a settlement should not be delayed
until all the "Arab" governments agree.

RE: OBAMA Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"How can one pronounce the word Democracy when a nation uses it's armed forces to occupy another nation? And uses it's supposedly 'in defense of the nation' set up called the CIA to usurp power in democratically elected governments of other nations?"
"JUSTICE, FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY." quotes from gozoman2

Now this is very interesting....Does ....could this possibly mean that either the new US regime and/or the above poster would even consider recognizing the popular voice of the Palestinians in having DEMOCRATICALLY elected Hamas as their representative voice to represent them!?? The election was open and many foreign observers, not just from the UN were at the polling stations to watch for any 'irregularities' and their opinion was unanimous: the elections were free and open; there were no 'irregularities', the election of Hamas by the Palestinians of Gaza were democratically elected by popular vote. Yet the US totally and absolutely refused to recognize a democratically elected government, just as many of the most ardent and boisterous supporters of democracy here on these forums...well, so much for your much vaunted beliefs, ethics and morality. ...
Again, go back to the history of the original PLO and compare their record with that of Hamas; compare the history and development of the modern IRA to the PLO and to Hamas. All once branded by the US and all their puppet regimes around the world as 'Terrorist organizations'. Very short memories and interests.
Will the voices at the UN that call for the democratically elected Hamas government be recognized by the US; would it make any difference? Perhaps the leader of Hamas needs to come to the UN as did Yasser Arafat, wearing a gun before the PLO was finally recognized by the world as the representative of the Palestinian peoples...even Britain finally negotiated with Sin Fein the legal voices of the IRA. All those groups fought long and hard for their peoples as Hamas is doing now, the only real difference is that Hamas is a democratically elected government.

RE: WHO IS OPPOSING PEACE IN GAZA ??

It seems that it is back to square one prior to the Zionist invasion of Gaza: the tunnels are being re-opened and new ones dug across the Egyptian border to Gaza for anything, everything to be taken in to Gaza, from food, to fuel to arms. Tons of various items are being supplied via the Muslim Brotherhood and what seems an easily solvable problem in halting this is for Egypt to fully deploy it's armed forces along that border but cannot risk it because of the control by and of the members of the Egyptian forces that are members of, or in sympathy with the aims of the Muslim brotherhood. This could be the revolt of the army against the Mubarak regime which of course will then put the direct confrontation of Egypt and the Zionists as a sure thing and other Arab states may possibly join in. The Zionist's days are numbered; they will not achieve the 'peace' they wish for which is the peace of the grave for the Palestinians and the Arabic peoples, other than perhaps launching an all out nuclear attack on the surrounding Arabic countries with the old tired paranoiac excuse of it being surrounded by enemies; 'everyone wants to destroy us'...sounds about the same as extremist philosophy of the US in the 'gotta have more and bigger guns' cause people wanna kill me'.
A 'pre-emptive strike' of course will mean both Iran and Syria will be hit which will only expand to other powers....perhaps a nuclear made wasteland is the type of peace the Zionists really wish for, as those insane bible thumping evangelicals do in the US that have been behind the Bush regime really wish to bring about their beloved 'second coming'...seems that that particular mental disease is rather infectious and quite contagious...
I seem to recall the old verses about turning swords into plough shares having to do with peace and the cessation of hostilities and I wonder why, IF the Zionists keep repeating their claims that they wish peace for all, why has the Zionist govt. not yet taken the opportunity to now announce that due to all the horrific damages they have caused to the peoples of Gaza, turn around and proclaim they are sending back their soldiers without weapons back into Gaza to help re-build it and help those refugees....but I forgot, their teachings do not recognize the Palestinians or any others as human....just goyim to be slaughtered...

Be well all, will check it later.

Excellent post. Speaking of 1948, there was Gandhi. Many of us who have supported Arafat and the old PLO, the PFLP etc. have always wondered what would Israel actually do if all the Muslim, Arab and other peoples around the world were to have an international non violent march into Israel and then also take a page from Martin Luther King and just sit down in whatever Israeli towns and cities they finally reached. Imagine potentially a million or more peoples marching peacefully into Israel to protest and stage the world's greatest sit-down protest...would the Zionists give orders to their military to open fire...to bomb and strafe them, with napalm or phosphorus bombs????????????????
The lessons of Gandhi and King have been vastly under used given what is at stake; peace and a return of Palestine; a chance for the modern UN to finally right the wrong of both the 'old UN' and to nullify the insidious Balfour Declaration; to finally break the US carte blanche to Israel to continually back everything Israel does to Palestinians...would they dare to sanction the Israeli military to open fire on perhaps millions of peaceful protesters to occupy Israel in a global protest culminating in a massive sit down strike in Jerusalem...
Some faction leaders liked it, some were dazed at both the enormity of the potentials....I still think it is a viable, 'do-able' ultimate protest by the entire world.

RE: Human

In all matters pertaining to armed conflicts and wars, the International Courts on War Crimes at the Hague should have exclusive, global authority to both investigate, charge and convict those found guilty of any and all war crime charges.
This has been attempted 2 0r 3 times and each time the US refused to vote in favour of it...no need to guess why. Perhaps a true level of commitment to global justice can be made under the current (new) administration to have this 'Yes we can' President actually show up and personally sign the documents, instead of doing what some are predicting what he will do if it comes up again, which is to say 'Oh No, we can't!'... thereby sabotaging it again... to the delight of those who wish to negate and/or impede any sense of global justice. Yet, strangely, they are the very ones to go around kidnapping peoples and imprisoning them without trials , yet call for more Nuremberg type trials of others while they are immune from prosecution...

"In fact perhaps it may prove more beneficial for Mankind to expel certain countries due to the threats they pose to the Global environment, be it health wise or in the promotions of wars and conflict based on Race, colour, creed or profit margins that render the value of the masses as worthless".

Yeah, now we are talking :) Who do you think we should expel??

laugh I think that is rather self evident based on the reocords that have hindered, denied and blocked majority Assembly votes and/or resolutions because of dictatorial ideology, the amount of WMD's that they have and the constant 'blackmail' using military and/or economic means to pressure member states into 'towing the (their) line. Economic pressures and blackmail using economic means is perhaps the most pernicious, always playing on the natural 'greed' of individuals, as for instance, in some countries, every Ministry, in every dept. are paid informants/ agents/ 'assets'...owned by another States vast security/intelligence agencies...
"Conflicts are fine, we are humans (and humans make governments) and they "agree" to go back to "disagree" and so on.. But if one or some countries are vote after vote for/against this country or that is so biased, do not you think it is about time that we work for a change?"
Absolutely, hence the principle of majority vote to and/or sanctions to break this impediment to any progressive solutions.
"We are talking about the ten elected members for two-year with five replaced each year, correct? Good idea, I like that :) How many do you think they should be?"
Even numbers lead to deadlock another by pass to deadlocks is for the Secretary General to randomly call upon one from the General Assembly to vote or leave it to the majority vote on the issue by the entire General Assembly...what is in the best interests of all and not just a few...

To me the problem in the UN happens at the security council.
Here only one nation needs to veto a resolution and it is finished.
Change that to a majority vote....and the General Assembly
gains real power to impliment anything it wants.

Excellent point regarding the need for a majority vote by members of the Security Council, but I would first deny any member States from permanent Security Council as that is mostly based upon a military aspect; who has the most of the most destructive weapons on the planet; that is not and should not be the main criteria for any State to be a member of any security council. The criteria needs to be drastically changed to reflect the majority view of all member States that basically the entire world is fed up with WMD's Perhaps then a new 'progressive' security council and the general assembly members can then pass a mandatory resolution outlawing, banning and destruction of all WMD's globaly. member states cannot remain stagnant; conditions change and adaptability is a must in all matters that affect all peoples. One simply can't remain stagnant and view the world or other member States as it was in the 1950's for instance; to be obstinate becomes regressive and regression is certainly counter productive and negative on the peoples of any State that stagnates and becomes regressive. Progressive being used in the sense that which advances all of Humanity not just some or most...hence for a progressive , as well, as an enlightened State(s)
"They already act together on regional issues and individual issues with UN charter agencies...like UNICEF, UN African Aid Program."
This is true and perhaps should be expanded a bit more with something like the regional High Commissioners overseeing more co-operation to also work together more in 'problem areas, be the issues environmental or economic etc.
"If all you doing is placing countries with similar world view together into a special council. Then this becomes its own clique of countries with special groups that will solict them. Leaving the other countries outside. Not sure that was the spirit of the UN's Charter post WWII."
This is absolutely true. Cliques are a hindrance if not potentially dangerous from many aspects. Isolation from the bulk of other states never produces anything positive , and only ends up breeding the old, tiresome "superiority" syndrome that always ends in creating divisions and conflicts which is the exact opposite purpose of the concept being united which does the most good for the most, not for the few. Being left out of cliques also breeds conflict where there are no needs for conflict; it is an old concept of open hearts, open minds, not like the old arguments of doing away with borders or National sovereignty. Those matters are and should be inviolate to protect the various cultures and peoples within borders. All peoples, all nations have an inalienable right to their identity; no 'one world' concept here from the viewpoint of the 50's and 60's. Each people need their uniqueness and culture to sustain their lives and to take it away by forcing a planetary amalgamation would truly constitute a real crime against Humanity.
