Makes you wonder why, when the USA spends so much on military, that perhaps a better use would be investing in ways to convert sea water to drinking water. Something that would benefit the whole world not just California.
Why didn't the Californian administration foresee this event and put contingency plans in place? Why didn't they try to find alternative water supplies? it is not as if this has never happened before.
Perhaps the administration should be fined for not doing their job properly
I guess that is why several British schools are now working with Chinese education agencies to create schools across China with both British and Chinese teachers and students, all of which are proving to be incredibly successful. Remember, without teachers you wouldn't be able to write or comment on this medium or any other for that matter!!
CS is not easy to access from China, possibly due to the Great Firewall plus very slow internet connections, using a %£$ can allow access but these are banned in China!!
If you want my honest opinion, I couldn't post it here, as many would tear me apart, lets just say the power between those who are elected and and the Church is too close and has created this imbalance and severe poverty. To give an idea, my home is in Argao, a small and very old sea side town, the mayor drives around in a oldish Toyota car, the local priest from the Iglesia ni Cristo Church drives a new top of the range Lexus.
It is more sad because the people of the Philippines are unique, one of a kind, no where else in the world, in my experience, are such a loving and friendly people, who, despite being poor, have their families and homes destroyed by the weather and have a dreadful and corrupt government, yet are always smiling and happy to share whatever they have with anyone. It is a country with just about everything the world has to offer, all mixed up and throw up into the air, so no one knows what or where it will land. A wonderful country
I would think there was more than a grain of truth in that report, due to the unhealthy lifestyle many have in Phils, Jollybee being a huge culprit as well as the over processed rice eaten three times a day, so many filipino's don't eat vegetables and/or fruit, they exist on poor quality rice and awfully fatty pork, chickens that have almost no meat and fish that is not so fresh. The difference in just 6 years from when I first visited and now, (My second home is on Cebu) is staggering and very very sad in my opinion. Of course the large families encouraged by the church does not help, with the poverty being so huge and little work available.
Weather wise, then most likely Kenya, East Africa, it has a temperature of between 20-28 degrees C all year round, being so close to the equator it doesn't really have a really hot summer or truly cold winter, they have a rainy season, but then that is not so long either, mostly it is dry and warm with a cool breeze, especially in Nairobi.
You see the problem is that because you believe the Bible, you are gullible enough to also believe the rubbish written by so called scientists. FACT : The dinosaurs died out 65 million years before any humankind lived on our planet, therefore you have fallen for the same made up stories as those in your bible!
Here is the top answer, from Reuters, note this is based on Rual China, in the cities, a far higher percentage wear glasses
"(Reuters Health) - It's estimated that up to 60 percent of school-age children in rural China need glasses to see clearly, but most either don't have them or don't wear them if they do. A new study suggests that misinformation about wearing glasses and the inconvenience of getting them -- not cost -- may be at least partly to blame.
Children with myopia (also called nearsightedness or shortsightedness) have trouble seeing objects clearly at a distance, and for some, the condition progresses quickly.
"People of Chinese origin have been shown to have some of the highest rates of shortsightedness in the world," Abhishek Sharma, of Oxford University in the UK and an author on the new study, noted in an email to Reuters Health.
In a previous study, researchers found that two-thirds of a group of nearly 700 rural Chinese children identified through a screening program as needing glasses failed to get them. The large number of rural children needing glasses rivaled what was seen in densely packed urban areas of China and was a "surprise," noted Sharma, who is currently studying ophthalmology at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
To find out why rural children aren't getting the glasses they need, Sharma and colleagues held a series of focus groups at three schools in 2007 and 2008. They explored attitudes about a range of issues surrounding vision health with 28 teenagers, their parents and 21 of the teen's teachers.
Although all 28 teenagers had been diagnosed with myopia, only 10 reported wearing glasses, the researchers report in the Archives of Ophthalmology. None of the parents wore glasses and some of the randomly selected teachers did.
The largest impediment to getting kids glasses wasn't what might have been expected -- namely, prohibitive costs (about $15 a pair, according to Sharma) or feeling that glasses were ugly. "Too expensive" was not a common reason cited by parents and the teens didn't seem overly concerned with the appearance of glasses, the investigators note.
Rather, misinformation appeared to rule the day and removed any sense of urgency to act, especially when coupled with the "inconvenience" of taking children for the eye exam cited by the parents, who were largely farmers.
For instance, even though studies have suggested that wearing glasses does not worsen eyesight, parents, teachers and the children, themselves, worried that wearing glasses could weaken the eyes or change their shape.
Some parents thought they could prevent vision problems with nutritional supplements, eye drops, monitoring their children's posture while reading, limiting close-up work, and encouraging eye exercises.
Parents, children and teachers all agreed that not wearing glasses when you need them could lead to injuries, lower grades and fewer career choices, but misinformation about the effects of myopia on vision, their child's own diagnosis, misplaced concern that glasses can harm the eyes, and faith that unproven remedies might slow the process, erected barriers to "effective action," the researchers say.
Sharma believes doing nothing to address widespread uncorrected vision problems could lead to social and political unrest down the road.
"The main concern is that there may be a significant portion of the current generation of rural population 'left behind' due to the lack of education and poor access to high quality glasses," Sharma said.
Only a baby gives unconditional love to it's mother, adults can't/won't love unconditionally, we always have conditions, not least loyalty and honesty. The reality is, only animals truly show unconditional love, and even a baby will change it's love to whomever is feeding and demonstrating love to it.
The fact that you find humour in the deaths that occurred after the Islands were invaded, say much about you Jac than anything Thatcher did or didn't do. Sad sad sad
I didn't support her views Peach, especially the removing of school milk and of course the poll tax, but she rebuilt the UK after labour had created mass unemployment and financial ruin. Had labour been in power the UK would have become far worse a place to live in, with no jobs and no money. Remember the "Winter of discontent" ? Most have forgotten, but without Thatchers strong leadership, the UK would have become bankrupt!! But I accept that we all see these changes in our own way and often opinions are at loggerheads. we can agree to disagree
No I'm not misinformed, I lived there during her time, I am, after all, British. The country was in a terrible state when she came to power, Callaghan had destroyed our economy, she turned it around, she fought and won huge concessions from the EU, all lost by B Lair. She stood up to the blackmail of the unions and succeeded to calm them down, had the British population been so against her as you suggest, why did she win 4 yes 4 elections, something no other 20th century politician has ever done? The misinformation spread about her is appalling in my opinion, yet B Lair gets away with lying to our parliment, the country and the world. Criticize Thatcher by all means, but don't write untruths !
Sad loss, he was the man who created electronic music, his life was full of sadness yet he survived and became a legend in his own lifetime. I am deeply sad at his passing away
The rule has gradually become less and less enforced, now newly married couples tend to just have one child anyway, they realise the economy of China will suffer if the population gets much bigger. It was only really enforced in heavily populated cities, those who live and work in the countryside were usually allowed to have more than one if the first child was a girl. The belief being that boys will have a better paid job in the future and therefore look after their parents in old age.
