have you ever thought about exercise....

Have you ever thought about this. What if people who expelled all that energy exercising put it to doing something productive....not productive on a selfish level so they maintain their abs or their biceps.....but instead why not put it to use building a house for somebody who is homeless. ...or raking somebody's leaves that are unable to. Or, help them clean up their house.....or walk to the store for them to pick up what they need. or....dig a hole to put a fence post in.

Exercising just seems like a unproductive use of energy.... I am all for staying healthy while exercising....but wouldn't it be nice to convert that energy into a greater good? They have tried to capture that energy but converting exercise bikes into generators....that is a good start in my opinion. But when you go out and build something or be part of building something....trust me...you work muscles you didn't even know you had. laugh

Have you done anything like that, yourself?... When I was 19, I remember my older sister had a special activity... She was going with a group of her University classmates to a remote area in the Maracaibo Lake where "Palafitos" are (Palafitos are houses built on the water) and the group had to do a bunch of activities to help one community... Well, I said I wanted to go and they let me... That was the coolest thing ever... We went on a boat and after arriving we saw the whole place and I helped paint a whole school and even though my arms/rib cage/abs/shoulders hurt a lot, because I am short and I was trying to stretch myself to the max, to reach the higher spots; it felt like a caress to my soul to see them sooooo happy... They all had that look kids have when they see all the gifts Santa Claus brought!... That was magical!... love bouquet hug teddybear

I have always helped people but seldom did that involve physical exercise, so if I didn't do physical training I would probably be in poor health by now, but if the hours spent helping people was converted to kinetic energy I might be an Olympian. grin
Is that you Johnny...

All these years I have been thinking

I like it handshake

We live in a village, where no one does exercise because all the people of the village wake up at 4 or 5 in the morning, clean the cows, buffaloes mess, give them fodder, give them water. Then after that they go to the fields and work, all day they keep doing some physical work. They do not even need to exercise separately.
But those who want to go in sports or in the army, they have to exercise separately. And in the city where there is no physical work, they have to exercise to stay fit. But it would be better if they could do some meaningful physical work.
Even to drink a glass of water in village life, some physical exercise has to be done. Here hand pumps are used for water and it takes man power to run.
Here exercise is done in small tasks, there is no need to exercise separately. If there is some free time, then they help each other too.

Why should those of us have to choose?

May seem unproductive to you but it's like this..I have my intense workout regime because it's one of my favourite hobbies..Did it ever occur to you that many of us who are into exercise are able to put time into helping others besides just exercising and being employed to earn a good crust?

Of course I don't have the skills build a house but believe me when I say I help friends with their homes in other ways who are suffering.

I would be more about those who spend way too many hours on the internet rather than those of us who love to exercise,

Have a great day Johnny wave
They do not need to be exercised separately.
Their everyday life is exercise.

R so exercise can bring good endorphins to depressed people banana

Its a good worthwhile job.

Starting your day with exercise sets you up for the day ahead you can then help folk with a light heart, joy For you see i cannot build a house.grin
Hello Mel,

I am currently in a project that is sort of like that.

I live in a small community and there was a house that was in poor condition....it was literally an eye soar to the community and after I bought it, I had heard that some other people were going to buy it and tear it down.

I got it cheap and I was going to remodel the whole thing and then sell it to my sister for just the money I had in it. I was not planning on making any profit. My father and I have been working on it for over a year now and circumstances have changed with my sister needing a house. She now has a house so now my not for profit project is now for profit.

But anyway, I used to work out and I am sure I will go back to it. In the meanwhile, everyday I am working on this house and when I get home, I have sore muscles I didn't even know I had. laugh So, I am in no condition for exercising afterwards.

The house is near completion. I have had several people from the community stop and thank me for what I have done for the town. The neighbor comes over once in awhile and she says it is the best looking house in town. I don't like tooting my own horn, but I will admit it does look beautiful. I am a very detail oriented person and I like to add a little artistic flare to things I do....and as a gentleman who stopped by said, it was bold the color scheme I chose, but I really made it work.

I had hired some local people to help out with some of the projects, so I was able to bring some people together with this project. I am very grateful they were involved. I enjoyed this project so much that I have another house bought that I plan on doing something similar with it. I feel that this is a testament that people can make their circumstances better for themselves. There are many videos I watched on Youtube to learn things...for example, I just had to lay some cement block. I have never done it before and the job turned out beautiful.

Now there will be a house available for a new family to move into town. Currently, there are hardly any houses available around here. It is a poor community and a lot of the house have been torn down. I feel the more people we have moving in here, the more money the area can get....for improvements on roads and the like, and for potentially creating additional jobs.

Mel, those houses you painted look outstanding. That was very nice of you to do that. thumbs up Sometimes things exists that are more than ourselves.....hence this blog with exercise.
Hello Pedro,

That is great that you have the mindset to help others. Yes, we do have to help ourselves....but I feel life is more than just about being about ourselves....and anything we can do outside of ourselves is a great service. thumbs up
Hello Decent Love,

In your area, it does not seem that some people have that luxury of time for doing exercise. Thank you for the eye opener. Really, that is what exercising is....it really is a luxury. If people who have that luxury spent time bottling water....arranging for a network to exist to send that water to areas in need...that would be pretty cool.

Thanks.
Merc,

Good point about people on the internet. Can you imagine what those hours could be used for? Like I mentioned earlier in a response, there are so many how to videos on Youtube that I think one could almost learn to do anything.

I am not against exercising. In fact, after my current project, I plan on going back to it. But during this project I am doing, I had realized that my exercise routine is no longer really necessary...and I am achieving something productive for the community, and given the circumstances, something for myself. However, the profit I make, much of it I do intend on putting it back into the community with improving additional homes and temporarily getting people to help that like doing what they do and need some extra money.

I have worked on this project now for a span of two summers....and when I was done for the day with those summer days....I was covered top to bottom with sweat.....and I absolutely loved it. :) It was a better exercise routine than I had ever done for myself.

Merc...this is suppose to be a thought provoking blog. From my understanding, you are into exercise at a very high level. I am guessing that you have probably, through the years, motivated others that have not really taken care of themselves as well as they could have....to step up and take that next step. In other words, I am guessing you have inspired others. There are many ways to be more than just yourself. Who knows, you might be exercising two years from now....and a thought might pop into your head about doing an activity for just an hour or a day...that might replace part of your exercise routine for that moment. dunno
Johnny how you doing?

Have you ever thought about putting on some kind of generator contraption on the springs of your mattress and box spring? thumbs up
Hello ExR,

I does not have to be about building a house. That is something I found very labor intense, which I feel is good for the body....and it is achieving community benefit. But, I also have a neighbor that only cuts their grass twice a year. As soon as I find extra time, I plan on making arrangements where I can maybe cut their grass for them a couple of times.

Or...just doing something big for yourself....something that people have really never considered....and then they realize that hey, I can do that too. Motivator, influencer....inspiration.....those all take time and energy. Like Merc said about people on the internet....

I am not saying sacrifice yourself and become obsessed...although being obsessed with love is not a bad thing...I think....but maybe there might be moments in one's life they might realize, that instead of lifting these weights for an hour, maybe I can grab my lawnmower and cut somebody's grass for an hour (for an example...it could be anything).

dunno

Have a great weekend Johnny!
laugh LK.

But yes, I think sleep is very very important. I know how my next day is if I wake up in the middle of the night for some odd reason. :( Thankfully, it doesn't happen often.

thumbs up
Johnny I understand where you're coming from & I applaud your time & thoughtfulness in what you give back to the community.thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up

I had a huge health scare..I should be dead doctors have no clue how I survived..It was so scary I took a year off work too scared to walk out my door in case it happened again..When doctors can tell you the why's then you have comfort in that and you know what to do and what not to do..They didn't have any answers as to why my health scare happened to me after so many tests..

To cut a long story short one of my girlfriends dragged me to a gym..I was kicking and screaming because I thought people who attended gyms were weird laugh

That gym gave me back my life..I have never looked back & yes I motivate people..Where I come from it's all about empowering woman we are not about putting woman down nor rubbishing woman..Those who do that lead very miserable putrid lives
Exercise is part of my routine
And giving time for it is the best feeling one can have wine but Johnny
I THINK we have the same in mind with Robert. laugh dunno that's the best exercise cheers wave
