Abbreviations.
Reading blogs here on CS reminds me of reading a Frederick Forsyth novel. Although he was a great story teller, he had the knack to bore me at times, causing me to skip a few pages from time to time. But his plots were so good; you had to see the end out.So what was it that bored me? It was his elaborate use of abbreviations and acronyms when explaining inner workings and hierarchy of government agencies like the CIA, the FBI, the KGB, the Mossad and what all. All riddled with abbreviations for the various departments and their heads. And repeated word by word in every book.
Maybe I’m exaggerating a bit now, but in every third or fourth blog (or comment) that I read there is an abbreviation. And I never know what it means. Oh, I get the gist of the story, but I always wonder what it stands for and I feel too silly to ask every time.
So far I have only mastered one of them for it speaks for itself.
So WTF do all the others mean?
For a change we have a sunny day with almost no wind. If the wind holds, I'll be getting the crew together. This is a day to go to sea. The fish are waiting for us.
Enjoy this lovely Wednesday.

I recall reading about the Kennedy's...and there was a lot of abbreviations for organisations that I was not familiar with. I had to refer to references at the back of the book repeatedly... It took me a very long time to read the book.
However, I try to refrain from using them myself. I struggle with textese too.
Yes, the over-elaborate use of abbreviations in a book can be frustrating and cumbersome. However, I can understand the use of abbreviations here on CS. A lot of members use their phones to log on and I find it a nightmare to send even a short SMS. I'm too used to a full sized keyboard.
Exactly, but what on earth is JMO?
See what I mean?
I don't think I could have expressed myself any better. And history is my pet subject.
Actually, with my short term memory now going for the dogs, I live in history.
What's there down under? Afternoon?
Thanks, Now I know two.
How's the treasure hunting. The other day I read about a fella in the USA who unearthed a old Mississippi steam boat on dry ground where the river used to be! He must have hit the jackpot there.
These remind me of one we used in the army. It is probably in use elsewhere too.
NAAFI: No ambition and F-All interest.
Used mainly towards the end of a tour when nobody was prepared to stick their heads out!
KISS = keep it simple, stupid
and
CDS = common dog sense
.......
I think everybody in electronics know it!
Are you telling me that I'm not alone in my quest? But I'm sure you used one the other day that I don't know.
BTW
I think it was you.
I just had a quick look now.
Eishh, so many entries, I won't know where to start.
Cat, the only one I tend to use is IMO, and I got that from Non who suggested you get less grief if you add it after a comment as it shows it's just your opinion & not a statement of fact, reading some of the blogs of late it should be used a lot more often as I see a lot of opinion & very little fact
You've got me blocked, but if you send me a mail, the channel will open. So if you want it, just drop me a mail and I'll forward it to you.
Quite funny it is too! (the rhyme now)
That's the one! Ok, Now I've got that one too! Thanks.
By the way, what happened to Non? I have not seen him since coming back from holiday. Maybe he started smoking.

I just checked my settings. You should get me. I don't understand this.
I tried you again too and same message. Perhaps you have a block on messages from males?
Otherwise I'll try to get somebody else to pass it on to you.
I have nothing blocked. I get mail regularly. I don't understand it at all!
I think it's something with the young generation today
BTW, FYI I hope you have a great day!! Hey, that was pretty neat
By the way it's good of you to think of Cat's health, BTW FYI, breakfast this Wednesday, fill your intestines
I've seen both in the blogs, but WTF do they stand for?
Eishh, the generation gap! I would have to ask my grandson!
I still struggle. I hope people can understand this now and help us who are not speaking fluently English. Please think of us too. I do understand the most of what you guys say, but when I struggle I too find it hard to ask every time. Thank you for this blog Catfoot!
