The Poison In Our Food
Your first thoughts were probably about additives, pesticides and some of the preservatives that we are subjected to every day in the food we eat but I’m not talking about that today. I’m talking about our fresh products as it comes from the ground, spiked with toxins by nature. We probably consume enough toxins to kill an ox.Everybody is quick to point out the disadvantages of (red) meat but it would seem that other foods are just as bad. It is no longer just sugar, salt, nicotine, alcohol, and fat to worry about.
The green leaves of Rhubarb contain Oxalic Acid. It causes kidney stones and, if you eat enough of it, it can kill you.
Kidney beans contain large quantities of Lectin and as little as only 3 uncooked beans can cause severe vomiting and diarrhea.
Apple pips contain Cyanide. If you eat enough it will cause vomiting.
The area near the stem of tomatoes contains a toxin called Tomatine that is sometimes used in pest control.
Green potatoes are extremely rich in Glycoalkaloid poison. Death by potatoes is rare but not unheard of at all.
The pips of cherries contain Hydrogen Cyanide. This can cause vomiting, breathing problems, and even kidney failure.
Brazil nuts contain extremely high concentrations of Radium, a thousand times more that the average levels in other foods, making it the most radioactive food in the world.
Nutmeg, a known hallucinogen can cause nutmeg psychosis which leads to depression and a feeling of impending doom.
Then lastly, to draw the attention away from plant toxins, eating the puffer fish leads to paralysis or death if prepared incorrectly. Chefs train for up to 3 years to prepare it correctly but people still die as a result from time to time.
So, what shall I say; Bon Appetite? We may as well start with the hand picked mushrooms. Only about 5% of mushroom varieties are poisonous and you will have a 95% chance of survival; or would you rather starve to death?
What the hell, I’m hungry. I must find something toxic to eat before I get withdrawal symptoms. I got used to having all these toxins in my system.
Have a wonderful day. There is no need to start your new diet today. Nothing has changed.

I just happened to finish my dinner when I read this.
I had sautéed French beans and pan-fried Snakehead fish. Yummy!
Snakehead fish? That is a new one to me. I must Google it.
Yes I did, Apparently it is found in Africa as well as many other regions where they were artificially settled. It appears to be a freshwater fish and that is why I did not know it. I don't eat freshwater fish and never really bothered to catch freshwater fish. Somehow I don't like the taste of it. I have eaten Black Bass but it is still not my cup of tea, or is that a kettle of fish?
I'm not an expert in the field but I cannot understand why organic farming should be less cost effective than normal food production. Therefor I wonder about the prices of organic food. And what is the point in organic farming if these toxins are already present in the food that we grow?
The list of toxins never end. What are we going to eat in the end. Whatever we eat will have some undesired content that will eventually kill us yet our bodies appear to be coping most of the time.
I eat one tomato per day (good against prostate cancer) and I eat the whole tomato, including the part around or near the stem. It runs havoc with my arthritis (nothing that Voltarin can't handle) but my prostate gland is healthy. Looks as if one has to choose the lesser evil in every case.
The reason the tomatoe will get your arthritis going is because it is a nightshade plant. Nightshade plants aggrevate many conditions!
As far as eating the rest of the stuff you mentioned...just remember...we are not going to get out of this world alive!
Now that is am angle worth exploring!
If we are going to die, we may as well enjoy the process of getting there.
But since you didn't mention about seafood my all time favorite, clams, fish, crawdads.
Anyways I also wash all the vegetables as good as I can to get those pesticides effect removed Cat.
Take care...
Are you still around? I forgot about the most important issue in my previous comment.
I should have added women, song & Wine
And goodnight! Mimi
So....that 3 things you mentioned are more of your cup of tea, huh??
Yup, almost midnight here.
My carriage gonna turn into a pumpkin soon
Or rather, I'm the pumpkin! Oh yes! I'm as round as one!
Sorry for fading on you like that last night but I was very tired due to the interrupted sleep the previous night.
It's ok, I understand No harm done.
Angel and I just made ourselves right at home after you left!
As Jim said, we will not leave this world alive.
So make it worth the trip.
Washing the vegetables under tap water? Is the water filtered in California?
If not, what about the fluoride and chlorine?
I have written many blogs about food, additives, etc.. but, in the end, what is left to eat Cat?
Maybe we should just take a pill with all the daily nutrients we need and that should solve the problem?
As you know, some people live to eat, while others eat to live... or to survive....
Which one are you?
As for prostate cancer, I know another plant remedy if you wish to know.
I'll speak to the sponsors but I don't expect too much of an improvement. The last time I asked them for better prizes they very impolitely pointed it out that blogs are not good advertising media.
Hmm, I noticed it when I woke up this morning.
And water being filtered, only that which we drink. But for the washing of the vegetables no.
Anyways I know the dangers of some foods we eat but what are we to do? I never took any supplements like pills but maybe I will look into it?:
Take care my friend.
A highly interesting blog. As regards organic produce, I design modular domestic hydroponic systems that can grow vegetables and herbs either organically or inorganically. No matter regarding aforementioned preference, the most important factor is to eliminate pesticides. Also as water is a scarce resource, this method uses only about 10% of the water as opposed to soil cultivation. At present I have the most wonderful butter lettuce growing hydroponically in my back-yard. I would think that moderation is the key - too much of anything can cause problems or affect diseases such as arthritis. On the other hand certain herbs such as tumeric can be as effective as some of the anti-inflammatory drugs. Also a cream containing cayenne pepper, or if pain is severe - habanero pepper is extremely effective in blocking arthritis pain.
A pill to feed us? I hope to get one with a medium steak flavor. I still like to have it a bit pink in the middle. Could we organize a pill like that?
Which one am I? I enjoy eating good food. does that answer your question.
Organic foods is so high priced.
I'm thinking that! All you have to do is just wash them off clean. And that would help a lot.hmm 96%. And the other 4%, goes to> You gonna pass away one day anyway! That maybe part of the reason, their calling foods Organic. Because! They wash it off for you. Then you still has to wash it off again.! Soooo!Cleaning it off, is called organics food. With a higher price to pay.huh!
I have found lettuce very effective against arthritis if eaten regularly. I make a point of eating one leaf a day, either in a salad, sandwiches, or straight as it is. Actually, I like raw veggies and eat a lot of veggies like cabbage, turnips, green beans, peas, tomatoes (a fruit?), broccoli, cauliflower, peas, radish, and carrots raw.
Hmm, a rather high price to pay to get a cabbage washed.
Ouch!! What did I say or do to deserve such a compliment?
We wash off cabbage here anyway! With the fruits & Vegetables cleaner.
Yeah Boyie!
you're washing all the nutrients away. All those snails and little insects are high in proteins.
BTW, I actually was away.
That would have been a terrible punishment for me if I had to avoid iodine. No fish out of the sea. Unthinkable!
For millenniums we ate the same food and humans are still not on the list for threatened species. I eat about everything and I am very little concerned about what is 'healthy'. However, it does appear that most of the things I like to eat are healthy. But then I eat fatty red meat and a lot of other 'unhealthy' things.
Ditto for my grandfather. He ate all the wrong things, he smoked and he drank fortified red wine. He died of cancer in the age of 96. How much longer than that do I want to live?
