Words of Wisdom

Have you ever found words to live by or had good advice given to you? My parents made sure that I was taught good manners. Be polite, to sit up straight, eat with your mouth closed, don’t put your elbows on the table, make sure that your bed is made, brush your teeth daily, wash your hands before you eat or touch any food. Blow your nose in private.

Do you wish you had been given certain advice or guidance earlier in your life? For me personally, yes. I wish that I had been taught how to date, how to recognize people who have drug and drinking problems, to know when you are being lied to, how to better handle finances, to be informed about dental care in its entirety, and to not rush into decisions too quickly.

Did someone hear your message or advice and use it to guide them in making a decision, or help them with a personal issue?

People at work told me that they valued my work ethic and the way that I conducted myself. I would not give advice if I had not been in their shoes, or had that experience for myself. The information so freely given and delivered off of the tip of a tongue these days is often just something that they heard or read about from somewhere. I have found that much of it is outdated, unpractical, and ill-advised. If you haven’t done the research and followed through for yourself on the advice that you are dishing out, then please don’t give it nor share it. It only causes heartache, frustration, and confusion in the end for the person on the receiving end of it.

Please feel free to share your words of wisdom with us. It might bring back memories, a few laughs, and maybe someone will learn from it as well. Thank you!

Being Prepared for It

Do you think being prepared for death of a dear one is easier than it happening unexpectedly? Maybe
In my experience life blindsided me in my youth 3 times from late teens to early twenties with the sudden death of my 3.5 month old son, a 29 yr. old husband and the murder of my biological mom when she was 39 yrs. (all within a 3 yr. period) Not getting into the details of the emotional. It’s as harsh as it gets but you eventually keep moving forward.

In my experience I’ve also learned that waiting on someone to die is the longest wait to endure. My Dad has had a very rewarding long life at 93 or 96, can’t remember now he is one of the living Dead. Will his eventual death hurt as the ones that blindsided me when I was younger? My guess is it won’t be as agonizing. This watching him die also lets me watch how much Mom and him still love each other. Yesterday was their 66th anniversary – WOW huh. It’s a long time to love.

I love “the Love” my folks have even though they are each other’s third marriage. I only get to experience that kind of love with a dog and it’s a wonderful love. My little dog Bella has been by my side 24/7 for 16 yrs. (she made it to 18 yrs. Old). I watched the end coming which is hard enough seeing them lose their abilities. I’ve wished many times at the end of my pets’ life they would go in their sleep but always dealt the card to make the decision when their life quality is gone.

It was a harsh goodbye. Every time I leave the house I try to grab her and in an instant the finality of the reality flashes. Heart hurts like hell but the rest of me is actually great. My mind is in constant thought of the gazillion wonderful memories to be thankful for. The pain of the loss is SO WORTH all the years of LOVE.

if you were born a boy or a girl, what are you now ...

There's some weird stuff happening in UK schools and the Daily Mail has got very overexcited about it. I know it's a long blog. You can skip to the last paragraph.

The link is at the bottom of the blog but because it's the Daily Mail, and wants to make you OUTRAGED, a bit of context first ...

There's an 8 year old boy who wants to be a girl. He wants it so badly that his parents are on board with it (man, I hope some serious counselling and thought has gone into this, but the Mail ain't saying) and he's going to be starting sex-change drugs now, before puberty. The school authorities know and are being fully supportive. They even had an organization called Mermaid come in to talk about it in general terms.

(Hang on, this is so common there's an organization?? oh yes. Government funded, AND a 500K lottery grant. Yeah, I was taken aback too wow)

The Mail angle is that the school vicar, while on board with the sex-change, has clashed with the school over one issue so badly that he's resigned. The kid's parents, and the school, want it to be as low-key and uncontroversial as possible. Victor (not his name) will, as Victoria, use the female loos and be called she, move along folks, nothing to see here.

The vicar wants all the other parents of all the other kids to be told. Well, we all know the average parent will be supportive, will tell their own kids to take it in their stride and not give it a second thought. roll eyes

I can see both points of view but then that is my curse sigh

Here's that link, prepare to be stirred to your boots, eh?

The Mail being the Mail strongly implies the school is doing it and the kid's own parents don't know. That is Fake News. Oh and turns out the drugs aren't changing his sex just delaying puberty. Well, that's the Daily Mail for you. Read by 23.5 million people every month, too.

Colour me puzzled that there are so many kids who, before puberty, are so convinced they are the wrong gender they know it is right to change. And is it right to change? What's so bad about spending childhood being androgynous, wearing jeans and t-shirts and not confronted with having to wear frills or have skinned knees ... I was a bit of a tomboy. In retrospect, man I would not be happy now to have been hurried along the road to make a decision to change to a boy. My younger brother, frankly, a bit of a sissy as a kid. Cried every time I knocked him over, that sort of thing. roll eyes Ditto.

wow

edited this blog to say I finally got round to looking at some statistics and turns out one baby in up to 2000 births is born with "atypical" genitalia. There's a comment on the 2nd page with more detail on that. That's a small percentage, sure, but in big populations a surprising number of people where the boy/girl line is definitely blurred.

Um feliz Domingo de Pascoal.

Happy Easter, from a slob struggling with this somewhat challenging language of Portuguese. I can use all the help I can get, and may recently have been blessed with such. Sure, German's somewhat harder, and having Spanish already helps. But the latter is much easier. With restaurants closed, bringing an Easter dinner to our beautiful and talented twins, who are now in their own places, along with a visit from Bravo. Joy for all, especially for Bravo, who seems always to snuggle strategically near the table.

The Mysterious Singer!

I have always been a kidder. Especially with my precious Mom. She never got the punch line in a joke and she never understood the kidding or crazy silly things I would do and say to her. I loved to croon Spanish songs when she answered the phone.

One time I called her because I hadn't heard her voice in awhile so when she answered I started singing to her. She hung up on me and when I called her back I was still laughing and I had to quickly say, "Mom, it's me, Eddie".

Needless to say that became a classic story that we still enjoy to laugh over at family get togethers. And, of course, the silliness gets crazier as the story evolves from year to year and from gathering to gathering. BUT NOW! That we have all gotten old my 90 years old twin sisters get the story wrong and we still have fun with it with all kinds of imagined add-ons!

Today I called one of the 90 year old twins that lives in Colorado. I wanted to thank her for the timely $$$ gift! When she answered I put on my best "professional" sounding voice and she promptly hung up on me. I quickly called her back and said, "It's me, Ed"!!

We both busted a gut and the "old" Mom story came out again. After much laughing and silly comments we said our goodbyes. I called my sister Merc in Pasadena, CA and told her the story. Once more the Mom story of her hanging up on me came up.

Yes, mi gente, the family had a crazy mirthful afternoon. I just wished all of you could have been here to enjoy it too!!

Wanna ride with me in my time machine?

This is a letter I sent to my oldest son about his birth.
Tom,
It was springtime in 1961 and I was working as a foreign car mechanic at Rootes Motors in L.I.City. I had been there about 2 years. Rootes was a British car Co that made the Hillman, Sunbeam and Humber. We had 23 mechanics many of them came from Ireland. Some of the senior mechanics had served in WW2. I believe a few of the mechanics who came from Europe actually served in the Nazi military though they would never own up to that. My workbench was next to Jim Arrington, a black EX NYC cop. The most corrupt man I ever met. I got that job through the NY State employment agency. My starting pay was $2.37/HR which was pretty high at the time. I met your mother and we got married and you were born. By now you're probably wondering what Rootes Motors has to do with your birth, right? Not much, except one day not long after you were born when word went around that my wife, your mom, gave birth to a baby boy, one of the Irish mechanics came up to me to congratulate me, saying, "Good Job, you put a tail on it the first time out." Apparently it was viewed as an accomplishment to have a boy especially as a first time father. My God I thought, it must be rough to be a woman in Ireland.

I just thought it would be cool to take you on a trip back in time for just a moment to see and hear the world through my eyes and ears.

My dear friend went home

Finally the agonizing times are over.

She smiled and said goodbye and for one last breath, she's with our Lord.

May she rest in peace.

Thanks all for your prayers.

She asked us all (family and friends ) to celebrate. But even that is not easy. I still cried but deep down very happy. Her two years fight is over.

God Bless you Shannon.bouquet

Your strength inspired us all. We love you.

Note : She's 52 years old, smoked for 30 years. Only stopped two years ago but her body was too far gone, health wise.

Morning

I woke up this morning at 6 am. So I decided to get up exercise for an hour. Went to see my mother for her birthday and went for a walk. It has been a great day so far. I usually get up at 8 or 9 am. It is amazing the difference two hours make.
