The Day After!!!

Wow!

My family is so special. Years ago I couldn't get along with my siblings. They're bossiness and judging kept chapping my hide so I stayed away from them. What wonders come with aging. We all get along now and they're are more hospitable and generous.

Earlier in the week sister Mercedes called me and asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday. Did I want a home cooked meal? I said, "How about a can of chili beans and cornbread"! She scolded me for being silly. I thought it was hilarious. She then said, "OK, come over Saturday and we'll have something". That was great because I've never had a meal I didn't like.

My kids came along, except my daughter from Portland, and so did my nephew and his family. What I am going to say now pains me immensely, but a niece called and asked me what was going on. I didn't want to lie so I told her. The painful part is these same sisters refer to her as a moocher and freeloader. She's not! She is generous and very sweet. What happened then was what I wanted she came "uninvited". I was happy she was there!

The remarks occurred under their breath but as the get together progressed they stopped. My kids and my nephew love her and they kept her in conversation. And as things further progressed we all ate some pizza, spaghetti, cake and we had lots of fun and laughter. Pictures were taken and laughed at because I was really acting up. Sister Merc even said, "Hey, the party turned out great".

I came home with lots of leftovers because I've never turned a leftover down and I had some this morning before 9 a. m.! Why am I saying this? Because after we gorged ourselves I am on a liquid diet because I am having a colonoscopy tomorrow morning! rolling on the floor laughing

At this moment I am drinking lots of liquid and in 4.5 hours I begin the purging process. So, I am going from feast to famine. The story of my life all underscored by a party one day and a purging the next.

When I was at the pharmacy getting the purge liquid the pharmacist, a sweet and very timid Oriental lady, explained to me the process. She explained that I would flatulate a whole bunch. I replied, "No problem. I'm a guy". She "kinda" smiled and I left.

I only hope I don't miss too much of the Super Bowl hitting the "library" continuously!!!!

Vacation Time!

My friends. It is time to see my kids. It will be so wonderful because I have not seen them for a few months.

It will be bittersweet. Seeing my kids and grandkids will be sweet. Especially my new grandson whom I have never seen being born 2 months ago!! Seeing my 2 sisters will be somewhat bitter because of their circumstances.

My children have grown up and they have prospered, thanks to our Almighty God! My son has a loving family with 2 sons and a wonderful wife!! They have a beautiful home and have reached a decision, together, that they will have no more kids.

His twin sister has not gotten married. Her fiancee passed away one week before they got married. So she bought a home and her mother has moved in with her. But no more on that because her mother kinda gets in the way with her crazy opinions. I do not know if she will ever get married but if she does I know she will make some man a wonderful ife because she is such a sweetie.

My oldest daughter will be down from Portland, Oregon where she lives with her gorgeous daughter and awesome son. She has a great souse and it was a match made in heaven. She and her husband have prospered really well. They own a 5 bedroom home on 5 acres.

I will really be glad to see them all and am looking forward to wonderful happy times. I am indeed proud of my family!!

My old maid sisters have also done well except for one thing. They never married and in their old age they chose a lonely reclusive life. The oldest one was very critical of marriage and having kids because of crazy reasons one wouldn't believe if I told the story. The other sister was never real open with her life but I suspect it was for the same near reasons the older one chose.

They are having a hard time doing things for themselves now and I feel sorry for them. This visit will be a good time to see if they want me to help, which I have offered and am open to, or if they still do not think I can be of any good. Yes, they have always been critical of me and they simply didn't trust me. BUT!! In our old age those ideas have somewhat evaporated and they have asked me to stay the one week I will be in town.

But I look at it this way. God is leading and I will do as He says!!

I will be in and out during the next week. Get ready for a big story when I get back!!

Aussie universities....

...In an effort to increase employment for graduates, the fees for so called humanities disciplines, compared to the STEM ones, will be more than doubled. So nursing, engineering and maths students are in the pink. History, communications, and English ones, well, not so much. Some merit involved, but.....
Should be protests galore. One more move to destroying the idea of the life value of a general studies undergraduate degree. The ancients, classicists, and middle ages academics, would be livid. Not to mention those of the enlightenment.

The Blue And The Gray

The U.S. Civil War ended in Spring, 1865.

In Spring of 1866, the ladies of Columbus, Mississippi decorated the graves of fallen Confederate soldiers. They also decorated the graves of fallen Union soldiers, and sent condolences to to their families.
The Southern ladies were chastised for so honoring the dead of the hated Yankee foe.

However, moved by what the ladies had done, Francis Miles Finch penned a poem paying tribute to their actions.
In the spirit of those Southern ladies, perhaps it would be well to remember on this U.S. Memorial Day, the fallen of all wars...and all sides.

Herewith, The Blue And The Gray, Francis Miles Finch...
