I know this is an odd place to ask but a granny friend of mine was a little horrified to find her granddaughter has to read a school book which has torture of horses, quite a few swearies, and some naked flirting between the characters. She asked the school if that was appropriate for 8 to 10 year olds and was told there are very few books which ARE suitable. The old standbys she and I grew up with are too out of touch in today's world and most of the modern books for kids have witchcraft, imaginary creatures, or other unreal stuff, and the school doesn't hold with that sort of stuff.
(torturing animals, no worries. Dragons or hobbits, EEK) (got it)
So that's the question. Those with kids (or grandkids) in this age range - come across any good books, set in more-or-less modern times and more-or-less real life, which are fun to read?
She wants to go back to the school with some suggestions rather than just saying she's not happy with the book they chose.
A very sad and haunting video about the lives of female children stolen to become sex slaves in brothels...although this is very sad there are good people who work with government officials to help take those girls back from their captors...
How can men be so cruel to deny their role in this devient s*xual activity?...it seems education is lacking on both sides...some girls are often shunned from communities due to their HIV status...still treated poorly although they are not raped anymore...the onus is on the victim to provide evidence of their abduction and kidnap into these brothels...most of the abusers do not see prison...
A good video please watch...the title as follows...
The Day My God Died
A little trivia! This song is from what TV sitcom? No cheating!
Making your way in the world today Takes everything you’ve got; Taking a break from all your worries Sure would help a lot. Wouldn’t you like to get away? All those nights when you’ve got no lights, The check is in the mail; And your little angel Hung the cat up by its tail; And your third fiance didn’t show; Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name, And they’re always glad you came; You want to be where you can see, Our troubles are all the same; You want to be where everybody knows your name. Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee’s dead; The morning’s looking bright; And your shrink ran off to Europe, And didn’t even write; And your husband wants to be a girl; Be glad there’s one place in the world Where everybody knows your name, And they’re always glad you came; You want to go where people know, People are all the same; You want to go where everybody knows your name. Where everybody knows your name, And they’re always glad you came; Where everybody knows your name, And they’re always glad you came…
The Journal of Positive Psychology released a survey last year showing that people looking for someone to date gravitated toward those displaying signs of humility. Arrogance and egos were turn-offs for both men and women looking for romantic relationships. According to the Journal, a woman looking for a man wants someone quick to see the other’s point of view, who expresses remorse at mistakes, and who forgives easily.
It’s funny how modern research keeps affirming the truths of the Bible. The Bible advocates a humble heart, saying, “Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud … The humble in spirit will retain honor” (Proverbs 16:19 and 29:23). The apostle Paul wrote, “Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble” (Romans 12:16).
Resolve to treat the next person you meet with humility. Listen to their conversation, open the door for them, compliment them, avoid self-centered comments, and seek to serve them in some way. You’ll find that the best way to go up is to go down.
Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility.

yes... I am the only daughter in my family and I am maybe a spoil woman because I almost always able to get whatever I want... my father will get the thing that I want right just i said.
But my best thing I did is my fiance... it was not easy to get along with him. I really have to be patient and finally he even fall in love with me because of some effort I do to get and to have him.
I will be upset, hate, bad mood when I could not get what I want. When this happen, I can blow all my bad feeling to people around me... yelling and shouting at my maid or my driver, but I love them like my family as they have been working with my family since I was 15 and now I am 39.
ok, enough about my life.. Now, what are you doing when you feel disappointed because you cant get what you want....?
This documentary is about how female children are routinely killed in the rural parts of India...female infanticide is a product of being poor...unfortunately this practice is upsetting the natural balance of the ratio of males and females...although it is against the law...this abuse still happens...and the mothers are blamed and chastised...
Despite the ban on ultra sound...finding out the child's sex before birth...many private clinics offer this service...
The dowry is also banned but unfortunately people still follow such traditions...another reason why female children are not wanted...and treated so poorly...what are your thoughts...
SA is world's worst drunk-driving countryAccording to the World Health Organisation (WHO), South Africa tops the list of drunk-driving related deaths in the world.
According to the latest Global Status report on Road Safety for 2015, 58% of deaths are alcohol related.
According to the report, you have a 26.6% chance of dying in a road crash in Africa. The second most dangerous region on the WHO's list is the Eastern Mediterranean - 19.9% chance of being killed on the road.
One of the reasons I don't drink alcohol is that I have seen and witnessed too many people being burnt alive in their vehicles due to head-on collisions in the Limpopo Province. Mostly due to alcohol.
