The simple truth is this what ever religious belief they have or are claiming to have is a falsehood from both sides, never in my short time on earth have i encountered or heard of a religious belief or people that believe their religion mandates the random killing or taking of a life...
lets Kill them all and let their prospective Gods sort them out, the good and evil, the sinners and the righteous... afterall most hold to the belief their true rewards are in heaven>>> lets send both sides without placing judgement to their rewards.

So Israel funded the rise of Hamas as a rival religious organization.
Israel gave Hamas arms and encouraged them to seize power in Palestine. Once they did so, Israel began to accuse them of being fanatical Muslims. But even now Israel arms Hamas and appoints its leaders.
Secular freedom fighters might get international support. But religious fanatics will never get any. So it is definitely in Israel's interest that the Palestinian cause be considered religious fanaticism instead of a struggle by poor patriots to free their homeland from a brutal foreign occupational forces.

I saw a comic strip back in the late 70s. In the comic strip Jummy Carter was standing between Arafat and the leader of Israel and he was saying "I think we can find a solve this dispute between the Muslims and Jews if we just behave like Christians" The thought of that still cracks me up.
One would think they would get it eventually and stop all this needless waste.

This fundamental islamic movement was born in 1928 in Egypt ( the founder was Hassan Bana).So, not at all created in israel.
Then it developed on the territories of Iran ( which trains even today the Hamas soldiers)the Sudan, Egypt, Algeria and Tajikistan, Afghanistan, the occupied West Bank and Gaza, Pakistan and most recently Turkey where an Islamic Party has taken control.
Yes, Israel aided Hamas directly in the past - the Israelis wanted to use it as a counterbalance to the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization,but they lost control as HAMAS became more and more radical.
