Angel from Montgomery

a lifetime to remember
by waiting to forget
two hands on a fender
sliding down a fret

the speed of the sound
of lonliness
smooth pebbles on a strand
they say God wrote down some music
on the back of JP's hand

I thought I could write
I thought I knew a line
that was before
I heard John Prine

this world can be a liar
but he could never be
I ain't hurting nobody
my mind's in Lake Marie

time would be a healer
just two days behind
"All The Best" he sung out
to movies in his mind

Hello In there, Dear Abby
Paradise calls you home
to an Angel from Montgomery
tired of being alone

Thats The Way the world goes round a thing that shone
quit your Spanish Pipe dreams
Vietnam is on the phone

I thought I could write
I thought I knew a line
that was before
I heard John Prine

he drove a pickup to the station
and no one even cried
the day mom got out of prison
the dog got drunk and died

the missing years of Jesus
a Broken Bottle, engagement ring
God wrote down the lyrics
John would merely sing

I thought I could write
I thought I knew a line
that was before
I heard John Prine

Buried

I gathered
All of the loneliness
And laid it to rest
In a tomb
Named “Hope”
So many attended
To say their
Last goodbyes
And wish
A final adieu
To a now
Forgotten emotion
Who had haunted
Them for so long
They smiled
And caressed
With hands
That could
Now feel a future
The tomb
Named “Hope”

I gathered
All I could
Of life’s emptiness
And sealed it
In a bottle
Named “Desire”
And set it adrift
In the sea
Named “Tranquillity”
Never more
To again
See the shores of life
So many attended
To bid their
Last goodbyes
And wash away
An unwanted fear
Who had journeyed
With them for so long
But now
Was cast aside
Like he’s brother
Who lay
In a tomb
Named “Hope”

And of all
My gatherings
The most that
Brought me comfort
Was “Despair”
For my journey
Had finally allowed
Me to cast aside
This
The most destructive
Of my Demons
And once again
I could taste
“Life”

How Much Loneliness the Truth Can Cause

How much loneliness the truth can cause
When even the night is filled with stars
And just for a moment the universe will pause
Equally deep inside my head are memoirs
The lush green grass of a summer meadow
The soft circling curves of a gull in flight
Painted on a canvas as rich as Van Gogh
A row of painted ladies dancing into sight
From far away and back against distance shores
I watch the passing clouds changing forms
Reminding me once again these fanciful tours
Also darkening at times and passing storms
When oh when will love again be sitting by me
That I can reach up and touch her falling hair
Cascading like waterfalls and little ribbons be
All the colors of prisms and rainbows flare
Such is the brilliance that a star can make
With just the right distance and space
Such is the destiny that my life shall take
To continue on this journey and life I trace
Carefully trying to keep what's center in focus
Such that life is only a true balancing act
Where one misstep from a dream that woke us
Is all that guides us between real and abstract

LOVE THE LIFE!

Love the life!
The little ... the much.
I love what I am ...
what I believe in.
What I want to be ...
I love the setbacks ...
that make me learn ...
get better and better ...
More me. Happier...
more man!
Stronger...
I'm authentic!
Not everything ... nothing
in words ... in gestures ... in touch.
And even more ... when I hear the silence ...
silence that in me.
It makes me more and more each day .....
Unique and true.

Music of My Soul (Poetry)

We can’t change all by ourselves
Recapture something wild and free
Like those fleeting moments in time
Looking outward and expecting to find
What is really only found inside
We can’t let escape or cause to flee
Such a spirit that belongs to only me
Or equate such things about myself
Only what we feel in ourselves to be
Such an inner voice of peace and melody
When the music of my soul whispers with glee
And that my dear friends is called poetry

Rainbow Connection

Kermit the Frog had a hit back in November of 1979
A song called Rainbow Connection
I got my record of it this week
I first discovered the song when I found out my dad would soon be dying
I found out last month that a child adopted after parents loss of a child
Is called a rainbow adoption
I also have Gwen Stefani's version of it
As well as another version from a recent Muppet Movie
I found a video of it with Debbie Harry from Blondie singing it with Kermit
I see maybe one or two rainbows a year, some are double rainbows
Starting at the bottom the rainbow the colors are
Purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red
The last line in the song is
Some day we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers, and me

Last Day of Black History Month

I started my day of celebrating black history month by listening to Sam Kinison
On his Live From Hell CD he talks about how rap sucks
In it he mentions 2 Live Crew's album As Nasty As They Wanna Be
The songs are offensive
I sang to Bobby Brown's No Humpin Around in my car
I also sang to Michael and Janet Jackson's song Scream
The movies I saw were Lean On Me, 187
Both movies about teaching, the first had a good ending, the other didn't
Higher Learning was another movie about teaching with a bad ending
I think of my old neighbors from my childhood, the only black people in town
I think of Anthony Ferrill, a black man who was racially harassed at work
He shot five people dead, including himself
He had a good job as an electrician for 20 years there
My hero Bill Cosby was Fat Albert and on Captain Kangaroo when I was little
Michael Jackson wowed me with his moon walk and his Thriller Album
Sammy Sosa played for the Cubs and the Orioles and had a cool gesture
Reggie White was the most popular defensive player for the Packers
Oprah brought me Dr. Phil who I still watch five times a week
Dave Chapelle has been making me laugh since 2003
I even liked Barack Obama till 2013, I still have my tshirt from 2008
Martin Luther King and Malcolm X were hope masters for us
I am thankful for them all as they have deeply enriched my life

This Thing We Call Life

This thing we call life
A race to the finish
I don’t want to be first
I don’t want to diminish
This thing we call life
Staring you in the face
An image of yourself
Captured in place
This thing we call life
Every breath of fresh air
Every moment we pause
Reflect on what's there
This thing we call life
Every moment we share
A moment for a smile
Show how much we care
This thing we call life
What really comes next
A warm summer breeze
Or storm that’s complex
This thing we call life
Is up for discussion
I hold the door open
For the world to rush in

About this poem:
Sometimes poetry can become such an invitation for reflection such as this abstract form of poetry answering a question or perhaps asking a few more?

For Mary Magdalene

Embedded image from another site

In the final hours
under pale gray sky
she stands below the cross
among all those who shared her cry.

He had taken from her
demons to and fro disdain
leaving larger stones of love
turning them into jewels to ease the pain.

Now on that sacred Friday
as the sun set in the West
Her Master is now asleep
and so divinely rests.

Heart in sorrow in sighing chest
Mary Magdalene trembling so did keep
with heavy crying eyes
time slow did slumber creep.

On that third day
Her Master rose to reap
reborn as an eagle leaving the nest
the Master is no longer asleep!

Go, Mary! spread your tender voice
shout in joy love and how
He has risen we all rejoice
you a beloved disciple then and now...

Mr Brown

This is a completely simple story
Mr Brown met online a women.
He wrote and called and spoke passionately
you are a clever a beautiful girl,
your ex-partner was probably blind
ophthalmologist would be useful to him.
She despite the experience of many
she lowered her vigilance by trusting him
he's a lawyer, he can't lie
he defends people, he defends the law.
And in addition looking her in the eye
he promised help in looking for a job.
And when he got what he planned
there was silence, what for words?
The sim card is easy to change after all
a woman on the net is easy to swap.
And this moral flowed out of it
don't trust Lawyer, never girl.
