Sandy smiles.

Sandy smiles, Sandy smiles…she won’t cry.

Don’t let go, don’t use that rope…

There is still hope.

Sandy smiles, sandy smiles,

Even in a Utopia full of crime,

The place the Revolutionists searched for a sign

Just wipe that grime

Off your face and it’s your fault

For following a cult

where Sandy just keeps on smiling

and lying

about the state of her heart

as a cause of a world she cannot part.

Sandy smiles, Sandy smiles… her days all balanced in a row

Each one faker than the rest

But she always says its for the best,

“What doesn’t kill you will make you stronger!”

Instead of saying :“I cannot play this game any longer!"

Sandy smiles, Sandy smiles… although there are children dying

Nobody is trying,

Trying to make a difference in all of this havoc.

A politician on his hammock,

Smoking a cigar and drinking some cane,

Making a toast on all of his fame

and the innocent lives that died in vain,

Because many chose not to make a change for all the Sandy’s,

But some used them as hard-candy's.

Sandy smiles, Sandy smiles, they all taste like different candies,

Hard candy as they’re sold for another man’s lovely night.

Their dignity will die... without a fight.

Sandy smiles, Sandy smiles as well-off people go about on their usual route

But Sandy lies in the soot

Wondering who her mum is … Yet she smiles and she smiles because it’s a crime to hide

And is forced to live in a world where one must divide.

Sandy smiles, Sandy still smiles as she sees wealthy children throw their food on the floor.

Sandy smiles and Sandy will abide

With society that leaves her body feeling raw

As she sees what it does to her.

Something inside her will stir

Her emotions in a big blue bowl within her mind

But Sandy will Smile, Sandy smiles.

Why smile Sandy? It’s with your voice that there shall be a better world...

It’s with your silence that there’s more and more chaos!

Please Sandy, let go! Stop smiling when you’re hurt.

Throw over the tables of politicians,

Break down the doors of the bourgeoisie,

Rip off the clothes which cover the flaws of the oppressors

And be different. Stop adding rhyming couplets to your poems

And following the order of traditional homes.

Sandy smiles with purpose.

She walks down the streets of her neighbourhood without a gun;

Listens to the radio, and looks at the world around her without feeling victimised because of a new case of hate speech.

Sandy smiles because she saw food on her table and listened to her proud mother’s voice.

Sandy smiles because she sees another day which contains equality and another young girl who will have the choice to wear white on her wedding day.

About this poem:
This poem goes out to all of the women who do not know their worth. You may not have been born into a context where you were given the choice to be strong and to fend for yourself; but as a united body of women, we can make a difference. We can choose, today, to be strong and to see the value in ourselves, our sisters and our daughters. Let's lift up the Sandy's in our lives!

Our Fellow Man

So many kinds, each existing in a type of beauty called
Humanity
I've see the strong,the weak
Known the ones who can lift you up
And the ones who could bring you down
Down..not always through cruelty, but because they have
lessons to learn in life
But many do not learn.
And each carries his invisible armor, his shield, with them through life
To protect them, often not knowing who or what is the enemy
Until something or someone shows them.
Then up comes the shield, the armor... and deeper is buried the beauty within,
Armor becoming keeper of the treasure, the truth of being,
the spirit lies deep inside, buried behind successful attempts at protection.

To know and understand that truth of being, that beautiful spirit within,
that remains the goal.

To help find the road,to take the journey
Seeking that treasure in ourselves and others
Looking within....
Then we could say we know...
Our Fellow Man.

MIND - FULL

It happens all the time
our minds drifting to the past
Those shady thoughts disturbing us
oh why do they allways last

Next thing wham the future
your off on those dreams
will they come will it work
so nice a peace full life

Back and forth our minds sweep
happiness sadness up then down
never ending rollercoaster
traped In a stiorm of mindfull thoughts

Well Im told you can escape
this is the secret to happiness they say
Live in the moment live in the now
forget the past Its gone

Those dreams of the future may never come
so being in the now happiness will shower
good fortune will come to you
Beauty is everywhere open your eyes

The wind rustling through the trees
The clouds floating above the seas
The birds singing in the sun
Its all there so have some fun.

Just ... Dance

Blindfold, sense the beat with your heart
memories in your muscle will move you
alignment to rhythmic body wave
barrida sweep turns to a colgada spin
passion channeling embrace bending
gancho maneuver and a volcada lean
arms around, arms interlock
feel the movement within
synchronicity of one
body, mind and soul
when you discover the rhythm of my inner core
the circle is finally complete

Moonbow

Lightning flashed in the sky
Causing her to utter a frightened cry
Thunder followed with a roar
As the waves crashed upon the shore

It was night and very dark
She shook and her heart was beating hard
Feeling like a small child again
She could hear her heart over the wind

The storm began to wane
There was no more sound of rain
The clouds began to clear
Low on the horizon the moon appeared

But wait – there was a bright white arc in the sky
Looking up at the dark as a background with a sigh
She knew at once the arc was a white rainbow
Lighting up the sky with a bright white halo

Feeling blessed to have seen this rare gift
She went out and watched it from the cliff
Knowing she was no longer alone
For her Father’s love to her was shown

OH FINGER OF GOD

OH FINGER OF GOD
THE MOTHER THAT BORE US ALL
THE WEB WE ALL SPIDER ROOST
TREE OUR LEAVES OF DAILY TOIL TO ROOT IN DIVINE WILL
GRANT THAT THE SUCCOUR OF THY FINGER PRINTS CEMENT THE FALLEN BLOCKS OF OUR LIVES TO ONE UNIFIED ETHEREAL WALL

Mind Concerto

With one precise wave of the baton
the Oboe starts playing a single melody
beautiful notes flowing upwards, fluttering downwards
reverently renders on the last note
well-balanced diaphragm for soft and loud tunes
before the final note disappears into the air
the Violins fill in the silent intervals of resting space
painting a background of sweet flower gardens
their bows joining voices with synthetic core strings
singing brilliant and responsive tone with a nice complexity
the Violas, the Cellos, the Bass all join in the chorus
bright blue skies emerge from the strings
unaware of the approaching dark thundering clouds
tonic and dominant rhythm of the Timpani
announcing the presence of something sinister
the black lightning monster hidden in the billowing mass
twisting sounds conversing with the Percussionist
cooking charms from the Glockenspiel
metallic echoes of bells ringing in the rain
suddenly interrupted by a menacing shrieking Tam-Tam
mixing chemistry with the guidance of a mad scientist
a jumble of words that make no sense
struck by a combination of Chimes and Crotales
shouting judgments into a creature's ears
so lacking in self-consciousness
gliding on the outer shell slipping softly away
always craving to fulfill the starvation of empty souls
green eyes looking towards the Harp for its unique resonance
ebony lips licking in anticipation of the next composition

A Beautiful Romance........

Dance
A beautiful romance
Nothing more
Could enhance
Everything you hold inside
Your love
Your heart
Your hidden pride
A story
To self express
Some to ponder
Some to address
The hard ways
The heavy load
The escape
From the bumpy road
Or the love of life
And what it holds
For those who venture
To be bold
All reasons
For your to define
Who you are
As you toe the line........

The Untouchable Lovable Difference

I stopped and talked on a sunny summery day,
with friendly Ron selling the Vagabond
That day I learned what gift means the most.

To smile sweetly, to talk a few, or give a hug,
sharing respect, inclusion, goodness of humanity,
forming a kind connection that all can see.

Still soldiering his days selling the paper,
to make enough to give him food and room.
No fame does he want, but to help when he can.
So, he called for help when the lady couldn’t stand.

Another time, a generous lad helped a driver in need,
What kindness and giving, indeed.
No matter his life condition at the present time.
This panhandler’s quick help was ever so kind.

Everyone makes a difference, even those without a home.
Whether on the street or in a shelter, I see.
They say hello, smile, easily lending a helping hand.
Giving a good example of what we all can be.

Some are so gracious as to clean their tobacco debris
from the store front streets, going above and beyond.
With consideration and thoughtfulness abound.
Open your eyes, and oh, the goodness you can see!

Seemingly at the worst, I have seen some of the best-
that is, the best in heart within humanity.
They cheered me in my times of need, with hearts open, they do.
So much they have when living gratefully, for all they do for me and you.

Think again, the last time one made you smile,
or lifted your heart, as they think more simply.
Offering a wave, some advice, a song or two,
That glorious music at the farmers market zoo.

Others may not be easy to notice, for they’re often not on the corner,
but tucked away at shelter or in a park somewhere.
Maybe they’re in a car or camping out in a quiet place.
Yet, you never know just when they’ll be there to care.

They may even look like any one of us, night or day,
dressed clean and in their personal best – to make a shift
With polite manners, working a job, and being thankful for what is,
moving forward, head held up, still giving love away.

We all make a positive difference, yes sirree.
Many a smile can be shared from people at the worst,
when life is down and they breathe in the humbleness that be.
I am so thankful for the goodness I see.

I am glad to give in what way I can to those in need,
when they have a grateful heart and do all within their ability,
with a smile on their face, and faith in their heart,
sharing joys too as part of the family of humanity.

About this poem:
This poem is one that is extra special to me, for it acknowledges that people at their seemingly worst, are still a valuable, meaningful part of humanity. For instance, anyone in a homeless situation can make a positive difference and some do- many, perhaps!

This is what it means to me, in my experience in Eugene, Oregon. I am grateful that some of our unhoused members are as kind and giving as they are, just as any other- if not more, at times. Perhaps, because they are treated with such grace and respect vs. another locality?
