How I Write A Poem

I take an idea
Elusive thoughts, That I am thinking
Try to nail them to the page
Tear the sentences asunder
Write them down,
look and wonder
At the emotion
That they convey
Is that the feeling
Are all the words, revealing
Just what I had to say
Make it longer,
Make it shorter
Check all the lines are in right order
Then post it
On a poetry page

When I Look At You

When I look at you
I see all thats beautiful and true
You capture my heart
Touch each and every part

When I look at you
I see a heart that makes all things new
You touch my soul
You make it whole

When I look at you
I see my reflection in you're eyes
You lift my heart
Right up to the skies

When I look at you
You know its true
I see a fire in you're eyes burning so bright
You alone ignite the darkest night

About this poem:
I wrote this poem about how certain qualities in people can touch our hearts and souls in ways we never thought possible and this is about a person in my life that has sadly passed away but they showed me many beautiful things from within their own soul and heart that left a lasting and profound impression on me that has never left me

Swimming Out to Wedding Cake and Back.

A long time ago - when I was twenty-three
When I did something stupid for a bet -
Stupid - or courageous - and I now agree
It wasn't something I would soon forget.
Bet one hundred dollars on the beach at Coogee*
(A challenge I survived and don't regret)
That I couldn't swim to Wedding Cake Island**
And then swim back to stand upon dry land.

Challenge was accepted - I left the hot sand
And waded out into the bright blue brine
The first wave broke above me - like a reprimand -
With water mild this high summertime.
I waded out till I could no more stand
I had to do this (I did myself remind)
Now committed - I had to my honor save -
Either this - or find a watery grave.

The first of the breakers were now behind -
To fold upon themselves in bursting boom
And boil in whitest bubbles - the shore to find -
Hissing in a frothy lace of spume.
Swimming now in breaststroke (to be kind)
To stamina reserves, I would need soon
(Though I only had a mild to moderate swell -
And no rips or currents in the sea as well).

Out too far now - too far to turn back
Lifted up and over each new wave; -
The water now beneath me turning black -
I kept swimming - I swam myself to save -
My will was strong - my reserve would not crack -
(For it was true I had a point to prove)
Waves no longer breaking - just blue rills -
Swimming up and over watery hills.

I now saw Wedding Cake was getting close
And no more than an atoll in the sea
Still not tiring I was there - almost -
The flat rock was there waiting just for me.
So far I was now - so far from the coast -
How strange is life? And how strange destiny?
One hundred yards close - I looked around and then -
Saw matchbox cars and houses - and ants for men.

Waves broke round the rock and back from shore
Now lifting me upon a coral reef
Pyramids of water eight feet high or more
Dumping me upon this rocky shelf.
Looking at my hands - I was cut and sore
(This is where I almost come to grief)
And having now escaped certain death
Stood upon the Island - and caught my breath.

Now reef - black reef - black water underneath me
Fifty meters back toward the shore
And sixty feet of water now beneath me
The grazing on my palms - my hands cut raw
Into the salty brine, I now bled freely
Bled into the water - and bled some more -
Fighting fright within me - to swim this final arc -
Swimming back in mortal terror of a shark.

T'was forty-five minutes to swim out there
And fifteen only now - to get back in -
And for what? A crazy stupid dare -
(I lived to take that hundred bucks from him)
This feat (good reader) I make you now aware -
(It is certainly a devil of a swim).
Stupidity? Courage? Or just male pride?
Good reader - I leave it for you now to decide.

About this poem:
Coogee - a Sydney beach.
Wedding Cake Island - a small rocky atoll, about 1 km from shore, and about 6 to 8 feet above sea level.
I did this when I was 23. I have my brother, and his two friends as witnesses to this - including a Mr EC, and a Mr PW - (who made and lost this bet with me).

Other people I know wonder why I do not want to go skydiving. Might leave this for a bit later in life - like in the movie
"The Bucket List".

life's reason........

Have you ever been on that merry go round
the one you never seem to get off
it goes so fast at times
you hope it never stops

it's enticing in its lure
it urges you to get on board
captivates your desire
never wondering if your bored

once your hooked it's hard to shake
the ride just seems so good
not that i know personally
but many people i know could

i wouldn't be proud to say yeah me
cause that would just be wrong
but if your struggling with your life
these words maybe your song

non judgemental in what i say
for i don't see me as a lord
understanding addiction
is anything but a fraud

so when do you say enough is enough
this child deserves more
am i committed to my life
or is life just a bore

i know it isn't easy
for some along the way
but when you introduce another life
it's time for you to pray

look and hope for better things
stay focused for who you feel
to be the centre of your world
for eventually your efforts will reveal

that a little person has so much to offer
adds so much value to your worth
in the essence of their life
there is so much beauty in their birth...........

Sea.

Sitting here in this place is where I'd rather be

As a cool crisp wind carries the smell of the salted sea

only here am I close to natures wildest beauty

My thoughts drowned my senses afloat

Im a drifting boat .

No man fish or mammal will ever be its Lord

Tameless sea will treat you with its own accord

Thrashing waves against its rugged caves.

Respect treat it with kind do not Polute

For it giveth Life to that I salute.

The Thrilling nascentness in a pile of dung!

[nas·cent
adjective: nascent
just coming into existence and beginning to display signs of future potential.]

Here we were, six, suave, highly educated men, walking through the untamed and unruly African bush with our armed guide when suddenly, we came upon this pile of dung! What an unparalleled thrill! We gathered round the dung like eager school children, looking to our guide to educate us!

“Firstly”, said he, “this is ‘scat’ not ‘dung’”, lol… “this is good news” he said, “for it means we can track the scat to it’s owners, a pride of lions!” My heart nearly stopped with anticipation! Although, I have spent countless days stalking the king-of-beasts through the African bush, and encountering lion countless times, each time is unique, even paradisiacal! I’m afraid that if one has not experienced it, one can only guess what it’s like to stalk a lion and smell the acrid scent of it’s urine,
‘Puny-man’, fragile human, face-to-face with man-eating-beast! Only then can you taste the unparalleled buzz, of eat or be eaten! Whenever I found myself trekking through the African bush, although, an accomplished hypnotist myself, I found myself, mesmerized, transported through a dreamlike portal, immediately going from the frenzied ‘beta’/stress-state to ‘alpha’, or even ‘theta’, the laid-back states of ‘paradise’!

So, in normal life, when encountering of pile of cat-pooh, revulsion fills you,
In the wilderness, though, cat-scat is ever nascent with exhilarating possibilities,
Enlightenment, even, lol, why not?

The African bush has taught me then,
To carefully and introspectively look for the nascent possibilities whenever you find yourself knee-deep in some s- -t or other,
Dive deeply into it,
Look for your paradise,
And when you find it,
Hiding knee-deep in dung,
Turn the door-knob and,
Enter your paradise!

THAT"S ALL I GOT

WHEN PEOPLE ASK ME WHAT"S WHAT; I SIMPLY ANSWER THEM; THAT"S ALL I GOT! IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE TO LIE, CHEAT, AND STEAL; YOU WILL SOMEDAY REALIZE, THAT YOU HAVE NO APPEAL! FOR THE WORLD WILL TAKE JUST SO MUCH! IT ISN"T EVERYDAY THAT YOU CAN WALK PERFECTLY, WITHOUT A CRUTCH! YOUR EVIL DEEDS SHALL GET THE BEST OF YOU; IF YOU AREN"T WILLING TO SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE WITH THE WORLD; AND NOT JUST A FEW! THE DAY WILL COME WHEN YOU WILL BE CALLED UPON, MORE OFTEN THAN NOT; AND YOU NEVER WANT TO RETALIATE WITH THE REPLY CONSISTING OF; THAT"S ALL I GOT!

STAND UP FOR WHAT"S RIGHT

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING WRONG; STAND UP FOR WHAT"S RIGHT! DANGER IS AT EVERY TURN; AND SURPRISES YOU LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT! WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT; ALTHOUGH MANY ARE RICH MONETARILY; BUT POOR IN MIND AND HEALTH; SO THEY HAVE NO TIME TO GLOAT! THE DAY WILL COME WHEN THE HUMBLE AND MEEK; SHALL INHERIT ALL THE CLOUT; BUT FOR NOW; LIVE YOUR LIFE, STANDING UP FOR WHAT"S RIGHT, AND YOUR RICHES ON THAT WONDERFUL DAY; SHALL BE OUT OF SIGHT!

Becoming a man

1.Is this what you would become,
A knight, a king, a god among?
Guard your mind and yield to none,
This is how the day is won.

2. Once you've begun a thing to do,
Just make sure you finish too,
Never let your passions rule,
Pride and anger make us fools.

3. Do not let petty things impede,
But take the higher road and lead,
Kill with kindness sow a seed,
Be the man you're sposed to be.

4. Control yourself speak less you'll score,
Make her feel like none before,
Say a word with letters four,
And always leave her wanting more.

5. No man's immortal all will die,
Live better moments, laugh, cry,
Take from Chance regret can't thrive,
This is how you come alive!

6. Words have broken not just sticks
And stones right to the heart they prick,
Before you say them oh so quick,
Bite your tongue there's no quick fix!

7. Lucky, lucky number seven,
Think we all will go to heaven,
Without sacrifice or penance?
Live however, do whatever,

8. Promise, promise never break,
Never make the lady wait,
What're you put your hand to make,
Do it now 'fore it's too late!

9. Be a man make up your mind,
Never leave your kids behind,
Instead make stronger tie that binds,
They may repay, when years decline.

10. Some imposters, most pretend,
Some will suffer cowards' end,
Some refining fire will lend,
Means to turn young boys to men.
