I Hear

I hear the song of morning birds
And wings I wish to spread
To fly up high where troubles naught
Are apt to pass you by

I hear the song of a church choir
Singing praises to the Lord
My soul it lifts and soars aloft
Like an eagle on the wing

I hear the wind through trees it rush
To places far away
My memories lift and swirl about
The lifetime of my past

I hear a heavy laboured breath
And heart that beats so slow
My time is here, I go with joy
And Heaven waits for me

Broken Heart

Sifting through the rubble
of a broken heart
trying to understand
the pieces that fell apart
curled up in a corner
where the light went dark
frozen eyes in the dead of air
with a tear falling to the floor
a sniffling nose
broke silence of the night
laying on the floor
holding a knife
closing eyes in dead of night
9am knock on the door
come on in
there is blood on the floor
birds singing overtaken
by the screaming
there you stood
with a
broken heart

Twelve month since you've gone

It's twelve months to the day,
since you went away.

still hurts inside,
as we remember that day you died.

your sadly missed,
all that's left is the emptiness.

your in our thoughts everyday,
and the pain i'm sure will,
slowly fading away.

Without you there was no me
Without granddad there was no us
Without both of you there were no Baker’s present or future

Sadness; is having a reflection and all I see is you behind the glass
Sadness; is looking at Kay and Dad in the eyes and all I see is you
Sadness; is knowing the next Xmas and birthday will be without you

Happiness; is remembering the memories of old
Happiness; is hearing your laughter after a few too many
Happiness; is knowing what side of the family my hips came from

Peace; is you sleeping and not yelling across the room
Peace; is a photo of past staring at me from in a frame
Peace; is knowing you are in a better place, with you glass held high

Joy; is understanding that heaven’s angels needed you this time
Joy; is the knowledge of you on a cloud reading a Betty Neel’s book
Joy; is knowing you have done your job, and a good one at that

Anger; is what I feel knowing I can never have one last hug
Anger; is part of jealousy because someone else has you now
Anger; is never knowing whether I truly made you proud at heart.

Grandma I know no words can express enough how much you mean to me but I just hope that whatever life you lead now is a good one.
I love you with all my heart.

i used to close my eyes and..

I used to close my eyes and see
everything around me.
All the swirling colors dancing in unison.

Now all I hear is the rain.
It's soft beginnings printed
in God's schematic.

I used to close my eyes and dream,
that I could touch you in
the breaking of dawn.

But my sheets are empty,
my hands, translucent.

Now I tilt my head back against
the wall underneath my window;
listening to the whir of traffic
and poet's nonsense below.

And the sidewalks are cold.
They moan with the weight
of humanity's woes.

And the trees whisper.
Their talk is of rapture.
Of budding saplings and
fairy tale lovers.

I close my eyes and dream again.

You Ran Away Today

You ran away today,
from the dark, the gloom, the rain,
I saw your face today,
Your heart, your eyes, your pain.

Its hard to speak today,
The darkness is too high,
There`s not much to see today,
The sun is just too shy.

I want to bring you home today,
But grounds is just too far,
I hear so many people say,
You`re on another star.

The living are with me today,
Their smile fill in my heart,
They sing, they laugh, they`re miles away,
And you`re so far a part.

I raise my glass for you today,
With wards of love that past,
The wine release the pain away,
As you`re no longer with us :-(

$15

Screams echoing in my mind
Twisting, turning sharp knife blade
Life blood trickling down
Across my fingers holding tight
I can feel life fading away
Keep asking why? why? why?
Just for fifteen dollars

A Moment in Time

Hanging by a moment in time
This moment stretched forever
Earth below me, sky above
Between them I am floating

Past my ears the wind is rushing
Setting up a fearful howl
Through the midst of clouds I travel
Ever closer seems journey’s end

Pulled the ripcord, nothing happened
Knew my time had finally come
Trees and houses so distinct now
See the house that I call home

Hanging by a moment in time
This moment stretched forever
I can hear the angels sing
Greeting me at heaven’s gate

Emptiness

I cant begin to image the darkness that you felt,
And if I could have changed the deck,
I would have changed the card that you'd been dealt.
I stand here now in this stony place,
Carved letters Tar, the memory of your face.

And I know
you felt you weren't strong enough,
to say goodbye
and you weren't brave enough,
to tell us why,
So you went away
and left us with
You emptiness.

Now as the sun sets and darkness takes its place,
I wish that I'd of seen you hand, and looked beyond your face.
And you stand there now in your better place,
Tears traced along the letters on your grave.

And I know
you felt you weren't strong enough,
to say goodbye
and you weren't brave enough,
to tell us why,
So you went away
and left us with
You emptiness.

Your emptiness is killing me with memories,

Your emptiness its hard to breath, hard to believe,

In your emptiness

Lhasa Apso

Lhasa Apso, what is that
My son did shyly ask
Eyes still sad from tragic loss
His puppy it had died

A dog, you goose, I did reply
White bundle of fluff was lifted
Mouth shaped a perfect O
Little fingers reaching

His little arms they held it tight
It's fur he gently stroked
Gentle kisses on the nose
A tongue his face it washed

The sadness dropped behind a veil
His eyes a joy to see
Wide eyed wonderment
A twinkle there within

And yet the puppy not forgot
Still wanders to the garden
Cross at grave to mark the site
Whispers, Goodnight Tia

About this poem:
Blame Odette67 for this....read her 'My Darling...My Love'....and instantly it reminded me of when my son was eight years old and he lost his best friend...and this was born out of that
