Reminders

A band that is soiled by sweat and dirt
On a hat that is weathered and worn.
Rubber strands wrapped again and again
'Round the base of a saddle horn.

His dog asleep in the sunshine,
Dreamin' of workin' cows again
Raises an ear at sounds of a footstep,
Wondering where the cowboy has been.

A corral full of good looking horses,
Content to much on their hay.
A rope coiled for the last time
By hands that had earned their pay.

All reminders of a cowboy
Whose life was cut short in its prime.
Daily threads of his life unraveled
To help us remember a happier time.

The hat can remind us of his roping
Steers called for by the nod of his brim.
Now he's made it to the short go,
His partner named Jesus and him.

The saddle and rope are trademarks
Of the cowboy's lifestyle and work.
Calves roped and dragged to the fire
Or stopped in mid-stride with a jerk.

His dog was his constant companion,
Helping with work no hired wrangler could do,
Waiting patiently in the pickup,
Until his cowboy was clearly through.

But of all the reminders left of this cowboy,
The best are the ones here today,
The friends, the family, and memories
The can treasure in their hearts each day.

dead reckoning

does any god permit the dissent of his prodigal people
with banished love forever, never to be returned to us
or are we always allowed forgiveness and mercy
mercy given to raging anger and blind ignorance

were ancient gods just, or just like us
should Zeus condemn the player or the game rules
is Sisyphus forever rolling toward eternity
rocked to hardened endless toil of futility

is any god a forgiving god or merely blood lust
is god of man in man's image or man his creation
do any souls know better the value of another
or even of themselves what can be offered

the endlessness of dying is circled into life
but is man allowed wanton strife of another
or our purpose more perplexing to ponder
can we know a peaceful life arcs peaceful end

love and hate balance all to be shown
without the hate, how can love be known
can both have a place at the end of the line
so with dead reckoning we sail to entwine

5 years ago you went away
so many things died on that day
our lives stop when yours came to a end
5 years ago was the beginning of the end.
.
I tried not to cry
but to vale
Ive tried to keep hope alive
like with you I failed
Ive tried to gone
but ive hardly moved at all
5 years ago is long long time
.5 years ago I kneel to pray
That lord would take my life
and let you stay
now I see how selfish that would have been
5years have come and gone
with tear drops on my chin.

Not a poem but a eulogy

Kurt Vonnegut, humanist, humorist and novelist, died a couple of years ago... To grant his dying wish, although I'm sure others have already done so, I just want to say, "He's up in heaven now..." LOL, wryly. A great American treasure who is sorely missed.

Lilac and Rain

On the the outside, you look peaceful
But I see the storms in your eyes
You've got memories of broken hearts
And the sadness of too many goodbyes

On the inside you've a strange world
Peopled by the children of dreams
You've got open arms and lullabies
But in the distance you can still hear the screams

(ch)
And when you put it all together now
The mixture seems quite strange
Hot summer nights, city lights
Lilac and rain

On the outskirts of your small town
You can listen to the stories of fall
They've got misty eyes and purple hearts
And rose colored glasses for all

(ch)
But it's lonely here in winter time
And nothing ever seems to change
Long winter nights, city lights
Lilac and rain

(bridge)
So you live with the hope
That you'll someday meet a stranger
Who will take you like you've never been before

Darling, don't you know
That you're never out of danger
No matter who comes knocking at your door

So if I add to your discomfort
You know I can always go
I'll just disappear back to somewhere else
Where I can walk in the soft autumn snow

(ch)
But if you should feel you need me
You know I'd feel the same
And I could get by, sharing your
Lilac and rain

About this poem:
Yet another stinkin' lost love song. This one about my troubled ex-fiance' in Georgia, who's 3-year old had been murdered by her previous husband, who also happened to be chief of police. Long story short, I held on the best I could, but she eventually took her own life in order to be with her daughter. I never wrote about that one, some things just don't lend themselves to words.

when it's my time?

Will I feel the pain of it all?
Will I feel, anything at all?
Will I see my family?
Will I see my friends?
Will I see at all, When Life Ends?

Will I be warm?
Will I be cold?
Will I turn young?Will I stay old?
Will I fear?
Will I cry?
Will I smile?
When I die?

I feel it now, Deaths embrace,
I feel God's Love, I can see his Face.
Here on Earth, Where I once roam,
It's time to leave,
For my Heavenly Home.

In the arms of an Angel,
I breathe my last,
I've left this world,
For I have Past.

Please don't cry,
Please no sorrow,
We shall meet again,
Shall we meet tomorrow?

About this poem:
I wrote this after my brother in law passed away from losing his battle with liver cancer. I made me think about my own mortality and the unknown, when it's our time.

Trapped in haite

Under ground i lay, buried traped all around decay
bodies motionless, the dead the dying the living
trapped we are motionless, help us trapped we are
cant anyone hear us

Exhusted are bodies cry out with hunger thirst trapped we are
wanting to be into the light we cry out for are freedom help us cure are thirst and hunger
Are cries of help not heard trapped we are
the day began as normal then the earth shock are bodies shock

buildings falling on top of us help help trapped in these small dark hollows in the ground buried to my waist in this tiny space
cant move my arms legs my bones racked with pain broken trapped am i in this tiny space freedom calls but am ignored help help free me form this space

Scattered

~ Scattered ~

I can hear your whisper in a crowded room.

See your smile under a faded moon.

Chasing your memory has me all but consumed.

Reaching my hand to feel your touch,
seems to get lost in the fog and dust.

I must have faith and hold unto trust,
not willing to surrender.
For I have your blueprint embedded in my heart.

Whimsical laughter and childlike frolic,
accompanied at times,of tears and sorrow.

Its the magnitude,
with the right attitude that gives me strength,
leaving you luminous,with eternal light.

Closed Door

Prickly skin warning of things unseen.
Waiting and watching as time goes by.
Feeling unable to move from pain.
Wanting to move unwilling to try.
Days gathering in darkened corners.
Greeting reflection I do not know.
Insides hiding letting outsides run the show.
Finally willing to except change.
Feelings of what is to come
Raw nerves and fight comes undone.
Feelings of comfort all warm and content
Feelings of the familiar as if heaven sent
Knowing now what was waiting for a sign
Hardening of the heart keeping the heart blindsnowed in
