No Good War

Both good and bad die
in winter of discontent.
Casualty, peace.

falling prey to failure

why would any fall into line?
why do so many lash out in desperation?
how could one whose wounds are so sore...wish to inflict a soreness?
are they justified, that because they hurt, that they may hurt others?
never got that...never understood that
one would think just the opposite...actually
but then, one would have to have thought...
...wouldn't they?
keep thinking!

Adrift for not, a thousand years

Somewhere in this life..............
........................ is what's called
the sea of souls.................................

.................. drifting.....

...in a endless effort..................
............to find salvation within. . .

it can be a plague
from generation to generation. . .
yielding to any hope
derived from
a mindstate of despair. . .
to be born
with an unadulterated peace. . .
it becomes an affliction
to grasp the real. . .

the real's a virtual trip
to find the way
of filling the void in one's soul. . .
until such time
the soul
shall be adrift
for not a thousand years.

Up From the Darkness

You came up from the darkness without me.

My soul shattered like glass.

My mind is blank, my stomach in knots.

Why was I left behind.

Heart beating frantically, breathing is raced.

You're no longer around.

No more laughter and smiling.

Just sadness and increasing pressure.

You came up from the darkness without me.

You'll always be remembered.

About this poem:
Dedicated to anyone who has lost some precious. I wrote it for my cousin who passed away four years ago. It explains what it feels like to lose a loved one, but in the end how they'll always be with us.

Death Awaits

As the years go by I ponder my death.
Will I go silently and unaware.
Or with fear grimaced on my face
as the scythe swings ever inching.

Will there be time to bide farewell
to kiss those cheeks and drink in the fare.
Or will it be said "At least it was quick"
and best not mentioned what was felt
in that last horrific scream.

What awaits me after death.
Will it be a bright white light that
beckons forward.
Or nothing but blackness, just sleep.

But death waits for me I fear,
welcome or not, it will bide its' time.
With crooked finger it will say,
come forth to me for you are mine.

About this poem:
I think we all wonder when and how death will take us. As I get older
I think of it more, don't want to but the end is closer than before.

The Last Gift

The sun beat through the canopy and the
dappled light played upon the cool forest floor.
A little boy sat by rivers edge and dangled his
feet just above.
In his hands was his birthday gift.
A fishing pole with reel and line.
It was from his big brother, it was mighty fine.
From across the world a message sent.
Happy birthday little man, it is not lent,
but yours to keep forever and a day.
I know you'll take care of this gift
given to you with thought and pray.
Shall see you soon little guy to
sit beside the river you and I.
The tears flowed freely from the boys eyes.
For big brother has come home and stands
beside the boy at rivers edge.
The brother bends to touch the lowered head.
But a brush of wind is felt instead.
The little boy stands and picks up his pole.
He walks home to say goodbye to his big brother.
To say farewell one final time.
And this he does as he sits beside his brothers' grave
and says "I love you and always will".

I LOST MY OLD SOLDIER TODAY

They say you should keep this poem until you can pass it on.
Today is my day!!

A DOG’S PRAYER

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle cannot be won

You will be sad, I understand
Don’t let your grief then stay your hand
For this day more than all the rest
Your love for me must stand the test

We’ve had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You’d not want me to suffer so
The time has come, please let me go

Take me where my need they’ll tend
And please stay with me till the end
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering, I’ve been saved

Please do not grieve, it must be you
Who has this painful thing to do
We’ve been so close, we two, these years
Don’t let your heart hold back its tears

sailors way

a hint of salted air penetrates my nostrils
closer that I become, the more it's presence grows stronger
fast appearing about me are pillows of sand
awakening memory, shouldn't be too much longer

facing a highest, final dune, blocking the horizon
my faint heart quick to beat, for I know what is in store
at last reaching the summit, my breath in sudden escape
as my eyes now behold...beauteous sea and it's shore

magically impelled, I find myself running
down, down, to the crashing waves, splashing their mist
knees turning to jelly, my mind is now racing
with my face and my spirit, to be first, sea kissed

I release myself to the swell of the ocean
float down to the bottom....oh please swallow me
for I wish to be one, with all the dead sailors
let my salty tears mix among they of the sea

A Million Times

You never said I'm leaving.
you never said goodbye
You were gone before I knew it
and only God knew why

A million times we've needed you
A million times we've cried
If love alone could have saved you
You never would have died

In life we loved you dearly
In death we love you still
In our hearts you hold a place
No one else could ever fill

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone
Part of us went with you
The day God took you home

Hear the Rain Slant?

I am amongst the woods.
Naked.
The trees sway somberly in the moonlight
as night unfurls.
The crisp air fingers my vertebrae
like a harp - arpeggiare.
Nature is here.
Without streetlamps.
Without automobiles.
Without radio.
Without television.
Without microwave.
Without furnace.
I am alone.
Thunder clasps,
resonates,
silence.
My world illuminates,
moments pass,
now gone.
Darkness.
What storm comes?
Tears begin to fall.
Listen.
Hear the rain slant?
Amongst the woods,
I am alone.
The soldiers lie around me.
Dead.
Without banner.
Listen.
Hear the rain slant?
