How Curious

When I was born I was so old
Was almost ninety seven
And as the years progressed along
I was getting so much younger

In mid of life I was forty five
Was an age most think wisely
Another thirty found me young
In midst of teens I’m sitting

So much I’ve learned over the years
Too bad I’m getting younger
Now my life’s end I near
Can’t talk I’m just a baby

Where to from here, I’ve no idea
Could be I disappear, forever

Dark Nursery Rhymes

There was an egg who sat on a wall
He was short, so not very tall
He wobbled and shook, down he fell
Landing he shattered, could hear death’s bell

There stood a bridge in Old London Town
The terrorists travelled to blow it down
Bricks and stones flying through the air
And killed a passer-by, a lady so fair

There was a young girl whose lamb was black
The kids at school took it out the back
With a slice and a hack they ended it’s life
Lambs must be white, or else there’s strife

This girl with a spider her breakfast shared
People around just stared and stared
She didn’t care, he was a rather nice spider
After all’s said and done, also a good provider

Space is a Jungle

Embedded image from another site

A jungle can be massively big and so deep
And possibly full of creatures that we'll never see
Likewise trillions of ants claim the biomass throne
Over two hundred species on any one tree alone
A fascinating insect by engineer and design
If it had intellect its brain may be as brilliant as mine
The chances of ants in a jungle to see us are very slim
Unless we explore nature and go looking them
Although most of us in the real world don't really care
We have Discovery Channels and we know that they are there
But we just live our lives and let nature take its coarse
An insects life can be really boring when you compare it to yours
But turn the tables around and lets talk about earth
In the middle of this jungle we call a vast universe
How arrogant of a species to think we're all alone
When we have identified other planets that we could call home
So something light years away is a species far more advanced
And to them our world is just a tree of different kinds of ants
Nothing for them to bother with, we have nothing they want
But like National Geographic from a distance they watch
Or maybe they are just waiting for us to mature as a race
A primitive planet in the jungles of outer space

About this poem:
The alien jungle hypothesis basically says in a nut shell humans are like ants and 99.9% have never seen a human because the jungle is so big and likewise we humans are like ants and will never encounter an alien until it encounters us, but in the mean time why bother, let nature take its coarse . there are eight more theories and possibly eight more poems . Whats your theory? I'm a nerd what can I say. Cheers

What If

What if we had wings and could fly
just think how easily we could travel
soar up and up into the azure skies
touch the clouds, catch hold of a star

Mount Everest would be a breeze
a few seconds to reach the summit
better dress up warmly though men
in particular might lose their bits

what if we could fly through space
a trip to that mystical orb the Moon
would be high up if not top of my list
shake hands with that mysterious moon man
Embedded image from another site

what if we could see the future
what would there be to see
maybe us living on different planets
sitting down to drink tea with martians
Embedded image from another site

what if we could see how love would work
know before starting out if it was right
would we do things differently or not
the heart and its impulses so strong

could we temper our love make it fit
and if we could should we do so?
methinks maybe not as passion
would also surely be curtailed

what if I was a princess
would I be gracious
rule wisely over others
be gentle and kind?

maybe I would be an eagle
a bird I so much admire
or a timber wolf free and wild
even a mighty ferocious lion
Embedded image from another site

What if all of life was just perfect
all people equal and all races friends
no money problems, fine homes for all
I think too soon life would be a bore

we all have our what ifs
I wonder what yours are
maybe you would care
to write a few lines to say

The Mirror

In front of the mirror I stand, staring at my reflection. I have changed so much over the last few years. My face had smoothed out and most of my wrinkles had disappeared.

It seems like it was only yesterday that I awoke to the sound of soil being removed; then the feeling of being hoisted into the air and then a journey to somewhere.

Once there I could hear singing and then someone droning on. The lid of my coffin was lifted and light flooded in. One after another the faces of my loved ones passed by staring down on my. I wanted to hug them, but not yet for I could not as yet move. That would come a bit later.

More journeys and more stops until I found myself in a hospital bed. It was there, surrounded by all my loved ones, that with a sudden gasp that I took my first breath and life slowly entered me.

My thoughts returned to the present. I had so much life to look forward to. In only a few years will be my wedding and then I will be a single woman.

A delicious thought crossed my mind. There were so many boys and dating to look forward to. Once I reached my teenage years there will be the innocent fumbles and that first kiss.

There is also childhood and all the games that involves. Falling out of a tree and learning to ride a bike. Then when I get young enough learning to walk, there is so much excitement to look forward to in my future.

My eyes come back to me in the mirror and a crazy thought crosses my mind. What if that me lived in a world where time went in reverse. What if in that world you were born out of the womb and grew older.

What if you came out of your mother and you were a baby growing older and eventually you became old and went to the grave, to stay there forever.

I shook my head, what a crazy, idiotic, fanciful notion. Everyone knows that you are formed from the dust and come out of the grave. You grow young and eventually you go into your mother’s womb to reduce to nothingness. To return to … no-one knows.

With a slight chuckle I left the other me, the one in the mirror. Yet I admit, I do wonder what she might have been thinking as she looked at me.

The Taming of Bundango

From out of the East she came riding side saddle
She was looking for romance way out West
She came into town smelling of roses
And wearing a dress that was covered in frills

Into the saloon she daintily walked
It went so quiet you could hear a pin drop
The men all stared with eyes like saucers
And the women glared with envious hearts

The worst affected was the roughest of all
His chin was dragging along the floor
He could shoot the wings of a fly at a distance
But come to ladies he was as clumsy as hell

He stuttered and choked just saying his name
While she stood there waiting patiently
At last he managed so she understood
That this was the man they called Bundango

A man that was feared by one and all
Who smiled while he slowly killed you
A rattlesnake’s poison meant nothing to him
He’d bite off it’s head and chew it

She held out her hand for him to kiss
And his heart almost gave up beating
The Cuban cigar between his lips
Forgotten hit the floor sizzling

It’s sad to say that she had done
Where no-one else had succeeded
She tamed the beast, this man Bundango
Now a gentleman of the West

Some Days it is Better to Stay in Bed (Part2)

Would this headache never let up? How
was I to know she was the host's
girlfriend. One minute I've got a grin
from ear to ear, like the cat that ate
the canary, the next I'm flying through
the air and out the door. I didn't even
have time to tuck myself in and zip up.

When I hit that concrete footpath I was
sightless for many minutes. My nose was
clogged from all the blood and I think
it was broken. Felt all squishy when I
touched it.

I didn't like the streets at night.
They were poorly lit and one never knew
what could be hiding in the shadows. As
I walked along a silly thought popped
into my head. How would it sound if I
had diamonds on the soles of my shoes?
Would I produce a metered rhythm? Stupid
the thoughts that run through your mind
so early in the morning.

As I passed a particularly large area
of shadows two fat toads stepped out.
Not real toads of course but if you can
imagine Toad of Wind in the Willows and
them make him look demented that is what
they appeared like. I couldn't help it,
I burst out laughing.

They both snarled and came at me. This
time I was not going to get done over.
Before they came anywhere near me I was
off and running like a startled rabbit.
My thought processes might be a bit
simplistic, but, a fit seventeen year
old and two old fat toads, no contest.
Thank God I could see them dropping
further and further behind.

I would not even be in this predicament
if it wasn't for you. We'd been going
together now for, let me think, must be
close on two years. We even talked about
getting married one day. Then you go and
do this. With George of all people.

Candy told me that you had done that, but
how could you? At first I didn't want to
believe. I even had a fight with them
defending you, but then I saw you with my
own eyes. You were with George, in what the
books call, a very compromising position.

When you saw me you paled and tried to
disentangle yourself. Stupid George just
stood there with his pants around his
ankles. It took him a while to realise what
was going on. I can forgive most anything,
but not this.

I walked away vowing that I would never
again let myself be hurt like this. That's
when I heard about the party. Best way to
get over you. Drink you right out of my soul.

I can see there is someone sleeping on my
doorstep. Who the blazes is this? What are
you doing here? You have hurt me enough and
I cannot take anymore. Quietly I turn around
and keep walking.

Some Days it is Better to Stay in Bed (Part1)

Here it is 3:17 am and I'm waiting for
my train. I've just come from a party
where the host played, I don't know
what sort of music you'd call it. It
had a heavy beat, all about death, and
loud. Did I say it was loud? It was so
loud that even now my head is still
thumping.

I took a handful of pills to try and
ease the pain, all to no effect as yet.
At this time of morning the underground
station was almost empty, except for
the usual bums sleeping on the benches.
The one on the bench near me sounded
like a spastic chainsaw.

Outside, up top, it was wet and chilly,
just your typical spring night in
Sydney. If I'd had some money left over
I would have caught a taxi home, but I
had spent it all on grog. Two bottles
of Jagermeister and a dozen cans of Red
Bull. Jager Bombs being my choice of
drink. They certainly pick you up and
bounce you around.

Would have stayed there longer if it
wasn't for that damned music. Possibly
getting caught in the bedroom with the
host's girlfriend might have had
something to do with being bounced out
the door and could also have something
to do with my head hurting. Thank God
here comes my train.

I had a thumping headache and no matter
what I did I could not shift it. Even
with all the pills I'd taken I could
still see red before my eyes.

It certainly did not help that the train
I was on had a drunken idiot on it. He
was so drunk that he was almost legless.
To make things worse he was trying to
sing 'Starman', a song by David Bowie.

He sounded more like a chorus of randy
alley cats. I would dearly love to give
him cement shoes and drop him off a
wooden pier.

With my luck I'd leave my fingerprints
in the cement and I'd probably get
locked up for nine lifetimes. Thank God
that this was my station. As I left the
train and the David Bowie fan I could
not help but wish him bad Karma.

Dark Energy (not poetic)

Dark Energy is the accepted hypothesis,
Of energies permeating 70% of space,
And accelerate the expansion of the universe,
From the researches study of astronomy.

Many of it's nature remains in speculation,
More is still unknown than known about it,
Its possible for more space to come into existence,
And Dark Energy can possess it's own energy!

It's undetectable in laboratory experiments,
One model for it is called Quintessence,
The other is Cosmological Constant,
Both common characteristic models PRESSURE must be negative.

Defining total energy of The universe is indefinite,
Due to the theory of gravity of General Relativity,
To reconcile the measured geometry of space,
With the total amount of The universe's matter.

Dragon

mystical creature are you
breathing fiery breath
scales glistening
tail with its fork
evil can you be
as you defend your nest
claws ready to strike and rend
to wing you take with a roar
yet good friend to some
as you help them
many a quest flown
from your back
as you carry hero's afar
their victory then assured
dragon of fire and beauty
I believe in you
