Laughter Of The Wizard

The Wizard grinned at his forsaken sins,
Up from the gallows- there he went,
Hearing the sounds of the ancient chimes,
"The moon is full- now I must fly,"
Spreading his wings aimed towards the sky,
Of what Angels feared, mortal man had to hide,
Demons warring by his side,
On the ground, the great warriors ride,

The first warrior, he withdrew his sword,
Through demon flesh- there it soared,
His piece of steel spoke so loud,
The Wizard laughed, then struck him down--
The second warrior, he carried his axe,
Stepping into a world of all black mass,
Almost victorious across the land,
The Wizard laughed, and turned him into sand--

The third warrior fought with his spear,
For in his heart, he had no fear,
Killing over a thousand in one day,
The Wizard laughed, and cast him into clay--
The fourth warrior, protected by his shield,
To no man; nor, beast he would not yield,
The Wizard laughed, without giving chance,
He changed the warrior into grass--
The Wizard got jazzed!

The fifth warrior killed with a dagger,
But, the odds against him made him stagger,
Beginning to lose his will and desire,
The Wizard laughed, changing him into fire--
The sixth warrior had no soul,
His weapons were his guitar and Rock-n-Roll,
Through his music the Wizard frowned,
Blinded his magic due to the sound--
The Wizard found himself at his wishing well,
Screaming out of how he failed,
Sworn to vengeance,
But, now he dwells,
Inside the deepest hole in Hell-

About this poem:
I wrote this one 10-17-94, just barely over two months after I "turned on, tuned in, and dropped out" and went to Woodstock '94! lol Putting this in here, I thought it might put a little change of climate into some readers minds. Something wild and out of the ordinary, perhaps?

War Haiku - another take

Quiet in trenches
Orders followed, carnage left
Shadows of the dead

In sunflower field
An abandoned violin
Refugees fleeing

Born for the combat
Blasts of gun fire, fierce ambush
Tin soldiers at war

Things that go clunk in the night

footsteps on the cobbles
scarecrows in the night
where spiders reign and serpents hiss
and fleshy things turn white
where vampires love the darkness
and werewolves crave moonlight
the ghoulish things go ting-a-ling
to the monsters great delight
but all the little children
of whom I have to write
stay fast beneath their covers
safely out of sight

Space

When are we going to Mars?
I heard it once by Bush Jr. back around 2005
Then nothing more was done or said
Now we have a drone flying on Mars
Big deal
We had space craft on Mars way back in the 1970's
So when is a man going to Mars?
When is a woman going to Mars?
When will we be going to the moons of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto?
I am hoping with Elon Musk's help it will be soon
The cost of sending nine astronauts to Mars is 1.5 Trillion dollars
We spend a lot of money on other things that hurt people
Why can't we spend money on things that would bring people true hope
Like Casey Kasum used to say "Keep your feet on the ground and
Keep reaching for the stars."

About this poem:
One of my biggest disappointments is the lack of funding of space programs. The first man on the moon cost around three percent of the government's budget and ended in 1975. We are moving forward once again towards Mars, but still the political will is not there to put up some real cash towards this goal.

I Got It Anyway

Now that my heartaches are gone
I'll be moving on
And I'm glad that tomorrow will bring a brand new day
She didn't want to give me closure but I got it anyway

The ending was kind of loud like a motorcycle on a steep grade
And when the noise is over and fumes begin to fade
I'll take a walk and then relax somewhere in the cool shade
And this thing about closure I got it anyway

I guess a woman gets mad when she can't make a guy suffer anymore
And I believe summertime in South Carolina gets hot and such a bore
Here in Kentucky poor folks don't have much to say
But this thing about closure but I got it anyway

Now some people will laugh when they see my old elcamino
Coming down the road in this nice month of may
I'll adjust my rear view mirror to what the noise is behind me
She didn't want to give me closure but I got it anyway

Starlight Woman

Her hair fell down in starlight tinted tresses,
Splashing every wave in silver light;
And all is hers when Earth Goddess undresses;-
(Old soul in young body makes her spright);
True only if my memory confesses,-
Her presence makes for earthly delight;-
A woman with a spirit from the stars -
When Venus lies juxtaposed with Mars.

Maybe all the planets in alignment,
Will suffice to bring an earthly visit;
To draw a man from his heart's confinement;
Is the reason she appears (this I posit);-
When she senses in another one refinement;
She descends from her celestial closet;-
From ancient dust that once was made in stars;
To haunt some lonely soul in city bars.

I see a distant star - is that the Lady?
Or just a lost diamond from her ring?
If I search the Milky Way, then just maybe;-
She fleets among the dust to find her king?
And in her star-clothes, luminous and hazy,
Her celestial vibrations she will bring;-
Though sometimes she will act - (as through a minion);
Earthly Affairs just part of her dominion.

ALTERED EGO

Mirror mirror on the Ceiling,
Explain to me this peculiar feeling
As I gaze into this reflective glass,
I recall the time I Tanned your a**

Towering astride in my leather Gear
The Countess is present she's really here

Strong and formidable kinky too
She's a lot to handle for a guy like you

Mirror mirror on the Ceiling explain to me what you're revealing

This woman I see in the reflection
Is it truly me
Or self-deception

Mirror mirror on the Ceiling
Who's this guy at my feet kneeling

Massaging my toes with frankincenseand & myrrh
Who'd believe this would actually occur

Once a woman oppressed subjugated and demeaned
Now takes flight after being quarantined

Agile winged Crane
Soaring new hights
The released child thrives whilst the flame ignites

Mirror mirror on the Ceiling You now bring comfort and therapeutic healing

About this poem:
This poem was inspired by the fairy tale mirror mirror on the wall...
I thought mirror mirror on the ceiling would be a nice adult Twist.
This was part of a project where we were decorating mirrors...
My full length mirror was decorated fit for Freddie Mercury... and was exhibited at the Alley Theatre Strabane.

IS THE WORLD STILL OUT THERE?

Embedded image from another site

Deep within the realm of my home
Tucked away concentrating on my own
Thinking wishful thoughts of want to be
Dreaming thoughts of things want to see

Warm breezes – blue sky – golden sunshine
Flowers blooming – birds singing – clothes on the line
Tucked into a room pretending what is outside
No catastrophes – troubles or problems – not in my mind

Curtains closed – not a sound coming through
Easily dreaming of a beautiful day in bloom
Suddenly so quiet – waking from my stare
Peering to see “Is the World Still Out There”?

About this poem:
Update 4/2020: I wrote this a year ago February not knowing what was going to happen in the world in the last few months. Eerily it makes one feel right now with COVID-19 "Is the World Still Out There?" being so isolated. Feb. 2019: Sometimes I get daydreaming a beautiful dream and block out the world. Finally when I return to reality - it will be so quiet that I have to look outside to see if the world is still there.

Star Trek: The Impatient Meditation

(Spock and Bones are sitting in Spock’s quarters as Spock tries to teach Bones how to meditate by focusing the mind through the concentration on the flame of a candle).

Bones: “Ok Spock lets mediate”

Spock: “It’s meditate doctor”

Bones: “I don’t care lets just get started”

Spock: “I suggest a more relaxed approach to allow yourself to fully engage in the process”

Bones: “I am relaxed”

Spock: “I’m merely suggesting a more holistic approach”

Bones: “I’m holistic!”

Spock: “I said holistic and not ballistic doctor”

Bones: ‘a joke Spock?”

Spock: “a comparison”

Bones: “damn it man I have better things to be doing than sitting on my hooch staring into a candle!"

Spock: “It is a flame doctor”

Bones: “Its insane!”

Spock: “The flame represents a controlled subatomic influence. It can settle a mind and achieve a state of equilibrium”

(Bones blows out the candle)

Bones: “how’s that?”

Spock: “shall I light it again?”

Bones: “not unless you want to be set on fire!”

Spock: “I fail to see reference how that would that help the situation?”

Bones: “It wouldn’t Spock but it would be damn funny!”

Spock: “perhaps another time?”

Bones: “not in this life!”

(Bones gets up but trips on a bag falling to the floor)

Bones: “damn it Spock what’s a bag doing on the middle of the damn floor its illogical!”

Spock: “spares doctor”

Bones: “of what man?”

Spock: “candles”

Bones: “you arse!”

Spock: “indeed!”
