Did you hear that poor old John died? asked the swaggie of his mate
Somewhere up the North they tell me, he was in a sorry state.
It seems he was still searching for that bird he spoke about
And it was on some lonely highway his old ticker just gave out.
Yeah, I heard something about that Bill the other swaggie said
I never thought I'd live to hear the news that John was dead
For a stronger man I've never seen in all my roving days
Determined, grim and resolute, yet kind in all his ways.
Now it's time I hit the road mate, gotta make ten miles today
So I'll see you round the traps some time, good luck.oh by the way
I was passing where they'd buried John, Bill to his mate then said
And I chanced to see his marker, the inscription on it read
"There lies beneath this mound of earth a mate a bird done wrong
The victim of a broken heart was John..from Wollongong".

About this poem:
Epilogue, but this time fiction as I'm still alive and kicking.
For our international friends "swaggie"short for swagman, a person who walked the roads seeking work carrying his meagre belongings tied to a stick and wrapped in a piece of cloth which also doubled as a blanket. His "swag". Similar in many ways to a tramp.

Life has been taxing, painful and rough
Seems like the hard times are never enough
But through all disparity, I have the dream
That my searching will find me someone I need
I don't need a model, I don't want a saint
I do not wish for more friends to acquaint
There must be someone who can see through my eyes
Feel from my heart, and hear when I cry
Laugh when it's needed, smile when it's great
Craves my desire to keep you safe
Arms wrapped around you, your body, your soul
There's no room for emptiness, I'll keep you full
Days are so wasted when I'm all on my own
Without her the house is not quite a home
Wherever you are, my salvation, my world
I hope that you're out there...my completion, my girl.

Should fate decree I win your love...
Then sure as there are stars above...
A lifetime's seeking now is done...
My search has led me to the ONE...
With beauty far beyond compare...
A wondrous love with me to share...
Two souls as one, two hearts entwined...
TOGETHER 'TIL THE END OF TIME.

The strange tie of bond
Love can command a storm
Things can be moved & changed
The brain works behind the chain

So, you think you've had it tough my friend..
And times seem rather bad...
But life is what you make of it..
And if perchance you've had
A series of misfortunes and you feel you want to die...
Before you give the game away consider for a while...
If your life is in a great big mess whose fault has this all been?
And have you tried to fix it or been just content to dream.
As they say it's always darkest in the hour before the dawn..
So come, look on the brighter side and don't be all forlorn..
For in a world that's filled with sorrow,
Heartache, pain and often tears..
There will always come tomorrow when all these will turn to cheers
So go and face this great big world, and very soon you'll find
Your trials and tribulations were just figments of your mind!

I was born to love you
With every single beat of my heart
Yes, I was born to take care of you
Every single day...
I was born to love you
With every single beat of my heart
Yes, I was born to take care of you
Every single day of my life
You are the one for me
I am the man for you
You were made for me
You're my ecstasy
If I was given every opportunity
I'd kill for your love
So take a chance with me
Let me romance with you
I'm caught in a dream
And my dream's come true
It's so hard to believe
This is happening to me
An amazing feeling
Comin' through
I wanna love you
I love every little thing about you
I wanna love you, love you, love you
Born - to love you
Born - to love you
Yes I was born to love you
Born - to love you
Born - to love you
Every single day - of my life
An amazing feeling
Coming through
Yes I was born to love you
Every single day of my life
Go, I love you babe
Yes I was born to love you
I wanna love you, love you, love you
I wanna love you
I get so lonely, lonely, lonely
Yeah, I want to love you
Yeah, give it to me

A group of girlfriends on vacation,
Find a five story hotel with a sign that reads,
"For Women Only Destination,"
And decide this will serve their current needs.
A good looking bouncer at the door,
Explains to them how the hotel works,
They can choose to stay on any floor,
If they are happy with that floor's perks.
So they go to the first floor but in vain,
For a sign there written in large text,
Says,"All the men here are short and plain,"
They laugh and move up to the next.
The second floor's sign still presents a problem,
And just doesn't satisfy their desire,
The men here are only short and handsome,
So they decide to move to a floor higher.
The third floor's sign reads that the men are tall and plain,
They still want better and with two floors left,
They decide there could be much more to attain,
Surely the next floor won't leave them bereft.
On the fourth floor the sign is more exciting,
All men here are tall and handsome for sure,
They start to go in, it is so inviting,
But wonder what they'll miss on the fifth floor.
They move to the fifth floor and read the sign,
"There are no men here," it states with caution,
For the floor was built only to define,
That there is no way to please a woman!

Ten little girlfriends looking so fine,
One obsessed with religious cults,
And then there were nine.
Nine little girlfriends going out so late,
The demons would attack one,
And then there were eight.
Eight little girlfriends searching for heaven,
One never told the truth,
And then there were seven.
Seven little girlfriends so full of tricks,
One wanted everything,
And then there were six.
Six little girlfriends were just so alive,
One sought perfection,
And then there were five.
Five little girlfriends always wanting more,
One desired money,
And then there were four.
Four little girlfriends couldn't agree,
One always argued,
And then there were three.
Three little girlfriends wouldn't pursue,
One couldn't leave the past,
And then there were two.
Two little girlfriends basking in the sun,
One couldn't cope with age,
And then there was one.
One little girlfriend had charm by the ton,
But he couldn't see it,
And then there was none.

About this poem:
I was looking through some of my past attempts at poetry and I found this one. I thought I'd submit it to such an esteemed site. Remind me to write the book someday. My thoughts are when it comes to girlfriends never over complicate the issue. It will do your head in!

The dream was not a vision
Or some premonition like we were told
It was no figment of the imagination
To prove that we could be bought or sold
The doctor of the diamond run
Could be revealed to the intelligent
But this is what i resent
Who cares for the ignorant, the intelligent
The cynics approach was must be
Who cares for anything in this whole wide world
Except me
And this opinion must not confuse the issue
My appearance, my condition, or state of delivery
I am stating the obvious
This is a protest
There must me a collusion
This is no Shakespearean speech
This is a statement
Made by one who can not practice what he preaches
The statue of liberty
Has engraved on it's wall
Give me your poor, give me your needy
Give me them all
We need something like this
For this world to coexist
It would be so easy
To act so pretentious
To act as if it was democracy
To act condescending
When in fact it's the world we're mending
And that's why i can't relax
Cause inside my coat it's a pistol that i pack
We must beware of a surprise nuclear attack
We must be ready to strike back
I'm not pretending
Our defenses, they need mending
We must leave those standing
Forget the third world is ending
Is starving, is crying
Is desolate, it's oh so late
I would dearly love to return
Through a mirror in twenty years
And learn what the future has in store for us
And if i learned that we lost
And there was no hope
For those that think
I would turn to drink
And drink is drugs
And drugs would help me sink
And like of boat, I'd float
I sail out to the sky
To the universe and back
Maybe to give it another try
I don't know why, why jack
Just to go further and farther
Just to learn, just to be nearer
