You can't trust thought!

To live, we have to see ourselves as good,
So brain takes over, saying,"I am great".
Our mind's-eye feeds the ego, sets the mood
To keep it self-sustaining, full of hate.

We truly hate each person not like "me"
And think of them a lesser sort of soul
Because they have not had our pain, you see.
They're not religious, have not been made "whole".

They do not love our saviour, are not "saved".
Their skin is not the colour of bleached kale.
Look at their politics, or how they've raved,
Or got what they are wearing in a sale.

He takes hard drugs, and she is much too fat.
They give their kids away to social care.
Still hearing mirror tell us " I'm all that"
We leave our social circle almost bare.

How 'bout the alcoholics that abuse,
Or ailing pro's who die out in the night?
We turn our backs and blindly just accuse
Drug-ridden kids who cannot help their plight.

The great unwashed, the posh, the rich, the dead,
We still come up with other titles, names,
While ego still plays "sicko" in our head
And makes us think we're perfect, plays more games.

Then what of all the ones that are depressed?
We wouldn't let ourselves get such as they.
The hypochondriacs, the ones repressed?
We wish the world would make them go away.

For we are perfect in our little world.
Our ego tells us that it must be thus.
How dare we leave our thoughts of hate unfurled
To keep us from what really defines us.

Compassion, smiles and love are all that count
When we seek to account for who we are.
To give and not to take in large amount
Gives purpose, helps make love instead of war.

It's not about religion, votes or "right",
Nor yet to have our neighbours praise our deeds.
It's all about reflecting to our sight
What future generations sow as seeds...

Weather The Storm

Before the storm a cold, cold breeze,
Begins to show its power.
The clouds all black and water filled,
Will burst within the hour.

And in the distant darkened sky,
There comes a flicker of flashing light.
And far off sounds that rumble and crack,
Thunder answers with all its might!

And that gray space between ground and black,
Too strong to call a shower,
Will soon be here to drench and soak,
The ground that now bears flower.

Now it nears and drops do fall,
First gentle then with full force.
The storm, it makes its pathway known,
Staying persistently on its course.

When all has past, all calm and clear,
And the sky is bright with sun,
A beautiful rainbow just might appear.
God's promise, 'tis all said and done!

I Have

Have you ever been with someone,
Who made you lose all sense of self,
Just made your ego run away,
Put all agendas on a shelf?

I have.

Have you known a love so tender,
That it took all your pain away,
Erased all thoughts of the danger,
And made forever seem a day?

I have.

Have you felt lightning in your loins,
As if you feel that you will burst,
From the storm raging inside you,
While in sweet passion you're immersed?

I have.

Have you bathed in the afterglow,
Your bodies quivering from lust,
And been so completely sated,
As all the love from you has gushed?

I have.

Love's Beginning

So very glad my dear,
You overcame your fear,
And reaching out your hand,
You hit the send command.

From there the die was cast,
A milestone was passed.
The barriers broke down,
A common path was found.

The days and weeks went by,
Oh how they seemed to fly.
We heard each other's voice,
And then there was no choice.

There was no concealing,
Emotions we were feeling,
And thank the stars above,
We fin'lly spoke of love.

Oh, passion played its part,
But more came from the heart.
Surrender of the soul,
Then turned this love to gold.

We now await the time,
When we can intertwine.
In person as in heart,
As destined from the start.

My love you are the one,
Of which my dreams are spun,
And half-a-world away,
Gets closer every day.

Cycle's End

Oh yes there were golden moments,
I can remember quite a few,
But I cannot help recalling,
The ones that left me black-and-blue.

The times I ran and hid away,
The times I took it like a man,
Though I was just a kid and that,
Was more than one should have to stand.

My father was an angry drunk,
Sometimes he took it out on me.
Some of his abuse was verbal,
But often physical, you see.

Until one day at seventeen,
When he had backed me to the wall,
His fist was clenched with arm drawn back,
And things weren't looking good at all.

"What can I lose?" I thought, and then,
Dropped down into a fighting stance.
I knew I could not beat him but,
Felt like it was my only chance.

"Wadda you think you're gonna do?"
He then asked incredulously.
"Well, I'm not just gonna stand here,"
I said, "and let you beat on me."

He shook his head and chuckled then,
Turned round and slowly walked away.
You know, I never will forget,
The lessons that I learned that day.

The very first revelation,
That it is wrong to run and cower
When you stand up to a bully,
You take away all his power.

The other lesson learned back there,
The message that I want to send,
I vowed I'd never beat a kid,
And that the cycle would now end.

Going Slowly

Met her online, she seemed very nice.
As it turned out I should have thought twice.
Used and abused then left in the end,
My broken heart took a while to mend.

After some time another I met,
Perfect we seemed, at least on the net.
As it turned out I wasn't her man,
Though we're still friends, it's not what we planned.

Whirlwind romance sure can be a thrill,
But when it ends, it leaves you unfilled.
I have now learned the real value of,
Taking my time in matters of love.

So I still seek to find my true heart,
Could it be her, or will we soon part?
Guess time will tell and then we'll know,
But we've agreed, we're taking it slow.

Ms. Wrong

She emailed me out of the blue,
And claimed to look for love so true.
I was suspicious but I thought,
I'd play along, see what it brought.

I sent to her my alias,
Old throw-away email address.
We chatted for a little while,
I then saw through and had to smile.

Her profile said she's from the states,
Though this, in fact, was not the case.
While her page said California,
She's somewhere deep in Africa.

I've blocked her now from my I.M.,
The scammers, I've no time for them.
For ones like this there's no excuse,
Profile deleted for abuse!

Mail From a Friend

The mailbox lights up shiny red,
Some someone wants to talk to me!
I clicked the button, scrolled and read,
It's from a friend who's very sweet.

She tells me of her house and town,
And all about what's going on.
She asks me if I'm feeling down,
Or if I'm happy with the dawn.

I am delighted to receive,
Each small detail is like a gem.
And her concerns make me believe,
She cares, or wouldn't ask me them.

My reply will start with thanks,
For such sweet words she thought to send.
So happy makes me want to dance,
To get an email from a friend.

Drifting Apart

When two together drift apart,
Who is to say just where it starts?
The careless words, the thoughtless ways,
That take for granted precious days.

Then once begun, it's hard to stem,
The downhill slide from us to them.
You may find fault and try to blame,
But really there's no cause for shame.

It may be sad to realize,
The light has left your lover's eyes.
But have compassion for the one,
Who at the time your heart had won.

It's not the end of either one,
Just a new chapter has begun.
So have a heart and just feel free,
To part the ways with dignity.

LIFE'S A TRIP

I sit here in a darkened car,
With three small ones at my side,
All huddled in blankets escaping cold's spar.
Lack Of Money 's the train that we ride.

This train someday will halt its wheels.
A destination will come to pass.
Having boxes with more than just love for our meals,
And bags just full of faith in our grasp.

So in the tunnels of the deepest despair,
Three smiles appear to me.
All warmed with hope that can't compare,
This trip strengthens internally.

We play an imagination game,
And stories we tell out loud,
Of the future's treasures we soon will claim.
On departure, we'll stand right proud.

So when this train stops and we depart,
Like with most trips, we'll all have learned,
Life's journeys are lessons to make us smart,
For our wings we have to earn.

About this poem:
This is an older Poem of mine. I wrote this one many years ago, by candlelight. The power was out, it was winter, and very, very cold. We had just finished telling stories to each other. Stories of how these hard times, would be so much better one day in the future. Well, My 3 (angels)children then fell asleep beside me, on the couch. We all were under a big blanket to keep us warm. I remember that they looked so very sweet when they were sleeping. The oldest girl asleep, leaning against me, my middle girl asleep, leaning on the oldest, and my baby boy, asleep, leaned against her. Like cute little sleeping dominos. Anyway, I wrote this one that night, while being the biggest domino. . . . LOL . . I hope that you all enjoy it. (warm smile) and Be Blessed Always.
