I'm Back

Not really a poem (although just to say)
Your top Aussie poet is now back today.

Now three weeks offline, has been long enough
(My old laptop crashed - indeed it was stuffed).

I did all I could to fix the old thing;-
Tried this and that, and repairs on the wing.

Wasted three days and four nights on repairs
But the old girl was gone - it seemed no one cared.

So I bought a fresh laptop - a great new device
And set the thing up for some more CS spice.

And to be honest - how could I keep away?
When it's part of my life to write a poem a day.

And if not one a day, then one a week
To all CS poets - you make my life complete.

About this poem:
Hi to all of the CS poets - here's a sonnet of sorts

Oh how I've missed what you all have to say -
And hooray, hooray, I'm back online today.

Sonnet No1

Shall I compare thee to a wet Monday?
Thou art more miserable and dull.
Watching TV, on thy couch doest thou lie,
guzzling snacks, yet ne’er seem full.

Oft-times too much the effort proves,
exertion for usefulness to devote.
thy sluggish body hardly moves,
save to press the buttons on thy remote.

Apart from thy telly, and need to be fed,
thou seem’st not to have any cares.
Thou doest not a thing betwixt sofa and bed
save to haul thy fat arse up the stairs.

As for contribution to society, to rest some pride upon,
‘tis with regret I say to thee, thou art a slob and maketh none.

About this poem:
My work sometimes requires me to visit people's homes, where I often get an insight into their lifestyle. This is an attempt to describe one in particular.

Entwined

Where sands come together at your ledges
Searching what washes on shores of treasure
Be a kiss which bumps along the edges
A place for where our love makes such pleasure

Us adrift in a tide of tranquil seas
Floating together we are meant to be
Our sails filled with the wind of offshore breeze
Searching for emerald coves with palm trees

Happen upon an island of delight
We anchor our ship inside your favor
A harbor of love all sweetness and light
Anyone whoever seeks will savor

Forever lost in time will ever find
For the sheer beauty of love be entwined

Old Yankee Farmer

Come into my barn and shake off the cold
Ne'er mind that old nag all of her neighin'
She's just gettin' near-sighted and little old
And that ol' coon dog when he starts a'bayin'
Pay no attention to 'im he's just playin' bold
If you hear all those timid sheep start bleatin'
It 'cause those dang chickens is gettin' polled
So grab you here this shovel lets start feedin'
Let me show you around to the ol' grain hold
I'll fetch us a few bales of hay 'fo' proceedin'
Don't mind me a' askin' what it was you sold
Plenty time fo' hearin' even if you ain't sayin'
So speak up boy 'cause I haven't got all day
What brings you out this way if you don't say

LOVEEEEEE !

If I should think of love
I'd think of you, your arms uplifted,
Tying your hair in plaits above,
The lyre shape of your arms and shoulders,
The soft curve of your winding head.
No melody is sweeter, nor could Orpheus
So have bewitched. I think of this,
And all my universe becomes perfection.
But were you in my arms, dear love,
The happiness would take my breath away,
No thought could match that ecstasy,
No song encompass it, no other worlds.
If I should think of love,
I'd think of you.

America by Claude McKay

Although she feeds me bread of bitterness,
And sinks into my throat her tiger’s tooth,
Stealing my breath of life, I will confess
I love this cultured hell that tests my youth.
Her vigor flows like tides into my blood,
Giving me strength erect against her hate,
Her bigness sweeps my being like a flood.
Yet, as a rebel fronts a king in state,
I stand within her walls with not a shred
Of terror, malice, not a word of jeer.
Darkly I gaze into the days ahead,
And see her might and granite wonders there,
Beneath the touch of Time’s unerring hand,
Like priceless treasures sinking in the sand.

About this poem:
A black immigrants view of the US in the '20s, powerful and thought provoking. Have we really moved on? You could swap out the title with any other country and still the poem would make sense. That's indicative of the harsh reality of 21st century living

xmas where are you

Is it that time of year
With lots of cheer
We wish you a merry xmas
The cries ring out

Music plays we wish a merry xmas
I dont feel happy i feel sad
Gone is santa his present un opened
Lies where it was a decade ago
How the spirit broken the fun laughter gone
Should i laugh should i cry
My heart lays broken
Time flown
Decades gone
Where has xmas gone

Heart of Gold

Hail to you, Sir Cafe, most gallant knight
Defending the castle Poetry Corner
Protecting all the maidens day and night
While all the other knights you inspire

With your poems you wove a magic spell
Oftentimes taking us on a journey
Captivating with wondrous tales you tell
Fascinating us with their imagery

Your replies to comments on your poetry
Were always warm, cheerful and refreshing
They showed your pleasant personality
For all of us they were most endearing

We thank you noble knight with heart of gold
And may heaven bless your beautiful soul

Rain Dancing (In Honor of Lucy's Challenge)

Gather the children for our hope rescinds
Counter greed driving the land into thirst
Watch anger swirl like lies into hot winds
While resentment curls the crops of the cursed

When will this terrible drought ever end
That makes a savage spirit parched and dry
Move fast little feet a message to send
As caked and cracked mud will make the land die

Form a circle of hope and play your flutes
Gently tap with love from all those soft soles
Inside your circle ring of dancing boots
A deep oasis of peace in your souls

Tap a beat to Great Gitche Manitou
Bring the rain again with some truth to sow

About this poem:
There is a Native American mythical institution that promotes the balanced use of natural resources: the figure of the Master of the Animals. Every animal has its master its "balut", a figuerative spokesperson, who simultaneously facilitates hunting and severely sanctions its excess. In this figurative sonnet I have chosen the old custom of a rain dance so this lesson can also apply to the way we use and regulate our water resources among the other more 'notable and finite' resources we can relate to. Greed will be the ruin of us all, unless us children (i.e. little people) pray and plea to a higher Being.
