To Our Lady Diana

You are a mother and a Christian soldier
Always ready to stand up for another
You have made your mark here on Poetry Corner
With your cheerfulness, wit and sense of humour

Your poetry displays a deep sincerity
That's a projection of your inner beauty
We know you have your responsibility
And we wish you will always be happy

BED, BOOK AND HANDLE

SHE SAT ON HER BED, HE IN THE DEN
SHE WITH A BOOK, HE WITH A PEN
SHE WAS READING ABOUT LETHAL DRUGS AND THEIR USE
WHILE HE SAT WRITING A SINCERE YET FAR-FETCHED EXCUSE

SHE CAME DOWN AND SET THE TABLE
WHILE HE DID WHATEVER HE WAS ABLE
BOTH HAD SOMETHING TO SAY THAT WAS REAL
BUT FIRST THEY WOULD EACH SHARE A MEAL

A YOUNG ROASTED LAMB, PEAS AND CARROTS
AND THEN BOTH BEGAN TO SPEAK OF THEIR HABITS
HER'S WERE BENIGN BUT HIS WAS OF GREAT CONCERN
AND BOTH PARTNERS HAD A LOT TO LEARN

SHE HAD A PROBLEM WHICH HAPPENED TO BE HIM
AND HOW THEIR FUTURE SEEMED FAR TOO DIM
THEY USED SOME MONEY TO DRESS THE LADY WITH CHARM
SOME FOR RENT, FOOD AND THE REST TO SHOOT UP HIS ARM

UNFORTUNATELY THERE WOULD BE NO COMPROMISE
FOR SHE WAS INTELLIGENT, HE NOT QUITE AS WISE
SHE DEMANDED AN END TO HIS DRUG ABUSE
AND STOP USING THAT WHICH SHE DEEMED REFUSE

FOR TRASH IT WAS TO A LADY SO SWEET
BUT HE SO ACRID AND INDISCREET
SO BOTH CLIMBED THE STAIRS AND INTO THEIR ROOM
SHE TO PACK HER BAGS AND HE TO RESUME HIS DOOM

DIVERGENT NEEDS WOULD KEEP THEM APART
SHE SO SOFT AND HE WITH HIS HARDENED HEART
SHE PACKED HER BAGS AS HE USED THE BATHROOM BUT NOT AS A JOHN
THEN HE AROSE FROM THE TILE AND TURNED THE KNOB ONLY TO FIND HER GONE

IT HURTS TO RECOLLECT THIS SORDID STORY
AND UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS NO ALLEGORY
IF THE TRUTH BE TOLD IT WAS AGONY
FOR SHE WAS LOVELY SHE AND I WAS A DESPERATE ME

author's note....it is acceptable for James Taylor to rhyme Boston with frostin' because in song it sounds okay. However, when someone, no names mentioned, uses the word "oughter" and jams it into a poem to rhyme with "daughter" that person should take at least one year of Analytical Poetry (i took two) or abandon poetry for prose.....does anyone remember the word "order?" This is only my opinion and you can take it from whence it came. ~f.C.!~

A ROYAL REVERIE (i'm ready for my closeup mr. demille)

She sat by A brook of beauty
Liquid
Flowing gently
Rippling
she seemed too wondrous to wonder why she came to me
a calming brook, a cerulean blue sea
Cascading over rocks a billion years old
Well rested
yet and still over tested
As an old oak tree spoke to a weeping willow ‘twas heard to say
“weep not my rooted friend
For we all must meet our end”
The storms
The frozen Friday afternoons
And the heavy humid and horrid heat
Just relish in the fact that you live aside a brook of beauty
and pay homage to the foliage as your duty
that brook of beeauty will ever flow with liquidity................ downstream
Alas, the lovely was only the star of my dream

Surcease

The pain is now subsiding,
As wine has done its thing.
A gentle fog has settled in,
This sweet relief to bring.

A delicate balance is sought,
Too much brings morning woes.
Not enough means no sleep at all,
Restraint I must impose.

The grape has brought relief again,
My steady, trusted friend.
A temporary, brief solution,
Until my joints can mend.

I'm working on more permanence,
A cure rather than just,
Relief of symptoms, dirty quick.
I feel this is a must.

But until full revovery,
Surcease is what is best.
To get me through another night,
So I can get some rest.

The Corner

Hangin' out on the corner is,
A fine pastime that educates.
With poems from all walks of life,
It sometimes even leads to dates.

The subjects too are varied wide,
From love to hate and all between.
From flow'rs and trees to cars and boats,
It really is a happ'nin' scene.

It teaches and it entertains,
From minds and hearts around the globe.
With worlds of words that cross the seas,
To hit you in the frontal lobe.

Community, comraderie,
With comments kind in thoughtful prose.
Emoticons add style and flash,
Usually add some of those.

Sometimes our tears are brought to eyes,
From verses touching from the heart.
And others make us laugh out loud,
With silly lines from some ol' fart.

CAVIAT EMPTY

AT LEAST SAID THE BEAST

Doesn’t death frighten you at all?
Well please allow me to enlighten you all
Death can be frightening to a lowly monkey
BUT one cannot fear death when one is a junkie

every time you score some dope from someone you don’t know
It could mean wonder or it could mean woe
A lot of people put shit in quality dope and don’t give a damn about you
So what, you were allergic to whatever he sold, that’s what people like him do

I mean if you’re going to score some dope and you don’t know the source
You can roll the dice or alter a well considered course
Because if his baby needs diapers and they all need food
Now see, that’s when life becomes lasciviously lewd

You can’t hit the street asking strangers for dope
One could be a pervert the other a sick-o who’ll hang you with a rope
So I’m telling you that it takes being illicitly brave to survive
And I don’t give a shit about the others, at least I’m still alive

THERE AIN'T NO SCO NO MO

THERE AIN’T NO SCO NO MO

I recall when we first sang that f****ing song
And danced from twilight until the sun
As for me we couldn’t have danced too long
As I freely floated and you sensually spun

You sang lead and I the backup harmony
A symphony composed by only you and me
The theme was a sonata meant to be
And so I thrilled to my dancer’s decree

“hold me closer and tighter my dear”
Those were the lyrics I penned for you
“let thy words draw me ever near”
And thus the melody did what only it could do

When I scribed those words they seemed so real
And “eternal” was a concept I suddenly understood
But by the orchestration was I taught how to feel
As destiny and perpetuity have done all they could
l
Now due to you I can no longer sing that song
Nor can I listen to it any more
The rhythm’s off and the lyrics are wrong
Since I wrote the words but you ruined the score

JACK WITH A BEER BACK

JACK WITH A BEER BACK

I decided to take me a on a little road trip
Just me and Jack Daniels so I took me a sip
Mr. Daniels with a chaser I didn’t need
And neither Jack nor I knew where the road would lead

At mile marker number 15 I drank me some more
Jack told me I needed some food so we stopped at a store
Bought me some bologna, cheese and a six pack of beer
Revved up my ride and threw her in gear

Mr. Daniels demanded I go a lot faster
And pretty soon that bottle became my master
A nip of Jack and a sip of beer is all I required
Some people might have but I never grew tired

The road stretched before us as if it were our guide
Exactly where we were headed we didn’t decide
Mr. Daniels sat next to me insisting where I steer
While in the back seat sat a silent six pack of beer

Jack and the beer were having some convoluted conversation
But I told them both to shut up or I’d lose my concentration
I held tightly to the wheel as we sped down the road
With me unawares that soon I’d be carrying a heavy load

My vehicle vied with a violation of the law
We wanted to go to a barr but ended up at that store
Days later when I finally got home I cursed Mr. Daniels for what he had willed
And then the Judge gave me twenty-five to forty-five for the three young people I killed

White van man

I've got a white van cruiser
with windows very dark
I'm passing by the girls' school
they like to have a lark
try to give me candy
tempt me to the park
they know I'm close to 60
an easy kind of mark
