MODIFYING an ADJECTIVE, OR OBJECTIVE

I WENT TO WAR WITH A WALL

Don’t worry honey, I protect my life
With a concealed and well honed knife
No switch blade, just a steak knife we had laying around
But just like a switch blade it will bring a man down

Don’t worry honey, I know the street too well
When you walk with me can’t you tell?
The street agrees with me and I with the street
And sincerely the street and you should meet

It’s a place where animals get out for awhile
Away from a place of cement and tile
So they rush to the trough just like all of the rest
And then scurry back to their cage or their nest

None of them give a damn about anyone
They don’t even trust a priest or a nun
Wave the Monroe Doctrine in front of them and they wince
Because everyone there thinks they’re a princess or prince

So when I go to various venues to rob and to steal
You know it baby, your lover is for real
Oh, and just in case I happen to fail
Make sure you can get money for my bail

Take Me!

I'm open now, here is my heart.
Do with it what you will.
I'm laying all out on the line,
I'm yours to save or kill.

You have my life, nothing held back,
There's no more I can give.
My life's on hold til we are one,
I need your love to live.

So take me please, I'm yours to have,
Here is my heart to hold.
I trust in you, in kindness to,
Our oneness to enfold.

I bet you think it's quite a risk,
To say the very least,
To offer self without reserve,
And chance the howling beast.

I know your tender heart is pure,
And your intentions kind,
My heart can safely open up,
I've seen inside your mind.

A REQUIRM FOR A WRETCHED WRECK

THERE HE LAY A STONE TO SPEAK NO MORE
THERE HE LAY, MOTIONLESS UNLIKE SECONDS BEFORE
THERE LAY HE, WITH NO MORE SMILES FOR TO LEND
THERE LAY HE, MY GLISTENING FRIEND

I TAUGHT HIM WELL HOW TO FIND A VEIN
I TUTORED HIM WELL IN HOW TO CONQUER PAIN
I EDIFIED HIM IN HOW TO ROB AND STEAL
THERE LAY HE WITH NO PULSE TO FEEL

T'WAS MIDST PORCELAIN AND TILE LAY HE THERE
OUR DESPERATION WAS AS A SPEAR
SKEWERED BY STEEL AS REAL AS ANY MADE
AND DONE WERE ALL THE PLANS TO FADE

HE AND I WERE GOING TO TRAVERSE THE GLOBE
UNTIL MY BATHROOM DEFILED HIS ROBE
WHEN MET DID WE HE WAS FILLED WITH HOPE
BUT OUR DESIRE BECAME HIS HANGMAN'S ROPE

NO 911 WOULD I PLACE THAT CALL
AS I DRAGGED INTO A HOLLOWED HALL
LEST THE COPS SEEK ANSWERS I COULD NOT DEFEND
AND HIS HEART AND SOUL UNABLE TO MEND

SO ALAN DIED IN MY SEEDY APARTMENT'S TUB
AND THEREIN LIES THE RUBBISH AND THE RUB
I NEVER ATTENDED HIS FUNERAL SINCE I FELT AS IF I HAD KILLED HIM WELL
AS FOR ALAN I KNOW NOT WHERE HE WENT BUT I AM HEADED FOR HELL

Live and Let Live

At any time whatsoever
Whether day or night, night or day
There's always some CS blogger
Who is up with something to say

Some post blogs of their very own
Others merely make a comment
Some just peruse to see what's shown
And with viewing, they are content

CS blogging is taking place
All across the entire globe
With no barrier to creed or race
There is no need for any probe

Among all the differing views
There are times when conflicts arise
Such cases, CS mods diffuse
For bloggers here, that's no surprise

So let's all enjoy the blogging
And to the rules be attentive
In the process of so doing
Remember to live and let live

dope DIDN'T kill ME but BEING a DOPE almost DID

DOPE DIDN’T KILL ME BUT BEING A DOPE WAS DOPEY

I smoked cheap cigars and played old guitars~
I even drove thirty-five year old cars~
I had reminders of dope dealing from all of my scars~
But my proclivity, I proclaimed, was for drinking at seedy bars~

The seedier the better it was for me in there
Because then I was in my element with nothing to fear
Walk down the street being me and you were taking a chance
I was shot at, choked, bludgeoned but no one ever used a lance

Old enemies never forgot, they simply waited by and by
Some hoped I had died and the others just prayed that I’d die
These people used to stand in neighborhoods they believed I would frequent
But s**t, I’ve been escaping enemies since I was a juvenile delinquent

I owed so many people money that it’s hard to recall
I just knew I must have owed something to all
Due to dollars…..dope…… dirty deals and the like
The only one wasn’t searching for me was busy with his finger in a dike

So I was diligent in my efforts to evade debts unpaid
The only thing I didn’t need a loan for was to get laid
Then one day I ran into Big Billy and Dangerous Dave
And I know how close I came to writing this missive from my grave

The Beat Of Life Goes On

Mom got up early and is in the kitchen
Preparing the breakfast for everyone
Dad's still in the bathroom and is shaving
And the beat of life goes on

The kids are busy getting set for school
One is still trying to get homework done
The others are taking things really cool
And the beat of life goes on

Now all sit around the breakfast table
To fuel themselves for the day's action
Each consumes what he or she is able
And the beat of life goes on

Dad leaves the home for his workplace early
Mom patiently checks the kids one by one
To ensure that for school each is ready
And the beat of life goes on

Dad is at work earning his salary
Kids are at school getting education
Mom is at home with some chores she's busy
And the beat of life goes on

It's suppertime now for the family
And it's filled with lively conversation
Each one partakes of the meal heartily
And the beat of life goes on

After supper, mom tidies the kitchen
Then joins the rest watching television
Later, for next day each starts preparing
And the beat of life goes on

The kids get busy with their assignment
Mom and Dad continue to linger on
They chat a bit about now the day went
And the beat of life goes on

Then finally they all head off to bed
For much needed sleep and relaxation
To refresh each for the new day ahead
And the beat of life goes on

Mom got up early and is in the kitchen
Preparing the breakfast for everyone
Dad's still in the bathroom and is shaving
And the beat of life goes on

My Poem 2

In your company,
I discovered a calm.
A sense of freedom,
Without any harm.

How You Know.

Pearls of wisdom are all about
But is there truth behind it?
How, you ask, do you know love?
"You'll know it when you find it".

Is that the truth, the simple core?
The heart of wisdom in this vein?
Or specious words of wisdom void
And utterly inane?

To recognize what you've not known
Because, it's said you will,
Is hard to grasp or comprehend.
Think of that what you will.

And so you've met that special one.
So different from the rest.
You want to pull a litmus strip
And put it to the test.

But you're hanging out there on your own
No litmus strips to use.
Uncertainty besets you
With the thought that you might lose.

You have to know, you tell yourself.
You must this time be sure.
For one more heartbreak is too great.
A blow you can't endure.

But maybe it can't be defined
With clarity of thought,
But only as this love is all
That other loves were not.

Perhaps "not love" is all we need
To know and judge aright.
As darkness best can be defined
as absence of the light.

When all it is is all you want
And nothing in short measure
You'll know it's love; all doubt dispelled
And you have found your treasure.

About this poem:
I spoke with my daughter over the weekend. I said I was now able to tell her something I could never tell her before. I've never repeated to her the common wisdom of love that "You'll know it when you find it" because until I met LadyBee, I had no way to know if it was true. But now I do know that it's true. Like love, itself, though... you'll only know this as truth after you've found it.

Astarte

The Mother who has made this world,
Has not forsaken her children.
Tis she who brings the sun each day,
And puts it to bed every evening.

The patriarchs who run the show,
Have tried to bury her glory,
But birds that sing and seeds that sprout,
In praise do repeat her story.

Her fertile womb has spawned our race,
In ancient times we adored her.
But politics and religion,
Have convinced us to ignore her.

We need our Mother desperately,
Right now even more than ever.
So let us call on her as we,
In our daily lives endeavor.

When troubles feel too much to bear,
And your life seems not worth living,
Turn to her, let her lift you up,
Look at all the gifts she's giving.
