youtube "LET THEM BE LITTLE" by anyone

There have been songs, poems and discussions ad infinitum on this subject, here’s my attempt at being whatever the rest of you are and I ain’t

ELECTRIC PAINS

They told me this would happen
But surely not to me
They said there are certain things life cannot abide
And one of those facts doesn’t come for free

We would go places and they would all remark
As I thanked God for what they were looking at
But no matter how I prayed, beseeched and I begged
Right beside me on a chair is where my future sat

Everything was the best, everything was great
Everything was everything I ever wanted all in one
One very little package but prized more than gold
And I remember when I could still use the word “fun”

Now when I say the word “fun it seems strange and aloof
And I suppose it’s the same thing with the word “joy”
It’s difficult to talk in terms of things you miss so
Like little Frannie in fourth grade and my favorite toy

I tried to avoid accepting what every one else expected
I tried to turn a “cannot” into a “can be” for me
Then one night as I went to turn off the light
Even though it was dark I still could easily see

It was something I tried to ward off for so many years
But with surety in reality there are things a mere mortal can’t delay
Suddenly electric trains and baseball cards became things of the past
Because they can’t stay little forever and my baby leaves for college today

CS Poetry Corner

Once upon a time some poets would gather
And write poems of their choice
It was beautiful and lovely
It allowed each poet to have a voice

Comments made on those poems
Were lovely to read and digest
The comments inspired the poets
And gave them a feeling of being blessed

To all those poets I wish to say
It was great to have your work read
May your lives be blessed evermore
Thank you for what we have shared

And now, all you dearest poets
You can look back at those days
They were all so wonderful and happy
Oh yes, those were the days

La-la-la-da-da-da
La-la-la-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da, la-da-da-da-da

About this poem:
I posted my first piece here on CS Poetry Corner in June 2013. There was a great camaraderie among the poets then and the subsequent years. It was a wonderful feeling that inspired other poets and myself in our writing.

I have written this piece in honour of those days.
It was inspired and motivated by the song:

“Those Were The Days” by Mary Hopkins

Love Is A Decision

Love is not based on a feeling only
There must also be a clear decision
Passionate feelings may die off early
Showing it was just infatuation

One should not need another as a crutch
But be able to stand on one's feet
This will allow each other space as such
And enrichen the sharing when both meet

A love relationship has its demands
It does not ensure smooth sailing always
Be mindful of this in each circumstance
And it will help you survive the rough days

The one that you love should be your best friend
Someone with whom you can share everything
A person upon whom you can depend
In situations that can be trying

As time passes, both of you will change
For change is inevitable in life
Do not consider this as something strange
Learn to adjust and avoid any strife

True love is the most precious emotion
That a person can engage in sharing
It fills the heart with blissful elation
Giving one's life a rich sense of meaning

About this poem:
"Love is a decision, it is a judgement, it is a promise. If love were only a feeling, there would be no basis for the promise to love each other forever. A feeling comes and it may go. How can I judge that it will stay forever, when my act does not involve judgement and decision."

- Erich Fromm - (The Art of Loving)

"But let there be spaces in your togetherness. And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

And stand together yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow."

Kahlil Gibran – (The Prophet)

i use 120,045 profane VERBAGE, now will u read me?

NO FUTURE, NO FUN, ONLY FAILURE

Perhaps that’s bothers me most
Haunting and hunting for me as a ghost
She had to have known I’d end up injured
Yet ignored what I had suffered and endured

I put up with promises I knew were secretive dreams
I put up with wondering if the lady is what she seems
My second nature obviously beat the s**t out of my first
And not only that but second nature did its f*****g worst

She must have known my body, spirit and mind would fall apart
I have too much compassion and soul within my heart
So I provided what she needed with no price, bill or fee
But she had to have known the last man to do this to was me

So now I yearn to do all the things she knew I shouldn’t do
Like drinking and drugging myself half to death and that is nothing new
She’s comfy while I wish I were being welcomed into hell by it’s host
And perhaps that’s what bothers me most

The Lonely Traveller

Miles and miles lie ahead
being even and odd at places,
having rise and fall on its ways
in the horizon the path mixes.

Unknown, sill unknown it is;
the path is still undiscovered.
it attracts me to be discovered
and I am a mad on this road.

The horizon moves away further;
the lonely path does not end.
Yet my cherished end unachieved,
and ahead have I to cross that bend.

Where leads it me? To a town
where man is a worm in gutter;
where man lives in empty din and bustle
without having his bread and butter?

Man is not a beast, but rational.
Why then they exploit us and cheat?
For us corruption covers them
under the umbrella of power to treat.

Here is no resort to take rest;
The lonely path lies ahead,and
I'm the lonely traveller on it
making my journey forward.

Come on my ways scenes natural:
lakes, forests, hills and vales.
Alive! Alive they are all
as I had heard in various tales.

A village perhaps is there
where leads me this path!
Yes, in this enchanted valley
there is at the centre of this earth.

Far form the noisy world, it is
amidst a calm and quiet atmosphere.
People are happy and of good nature.
Life is smooth and busy here.

It seems Paradise exists here.
Across it the lonely path lies further.
I'm the lonely traveller on it;
have to move through good and bad weather

to find out my own SELF, own nature,
like the path that itself differs
from place to place -- the most
vital lesson that it offers.

i only know if i wasn't the author i would read it

A VIEW FROM BEYOND THE BLUE

I hate to see the world this way
Everything seems like an aimless gray
Over there used to be a cow Pasteur all blazingly green
Now it’s just another iron and concrete scene

Building icons construct latter day dinosaurs against our iconoclastic wishes
So I think for two months a winged angel should do the dishes
Because even angels have duties to perform
And some of them even do it far above norm

But my angel and I look down and cry for a society’s pretense
Weeping for the fools without angels nor sense
Sometimes she says if I want to go down it’s okay
But it’s easy to see in angelic eyes that she prays i stay

There is no way in the world I would return to your world gone awry
I’ll just stay in the breath of white clouds and fantasy’s fog until I die
Because ain’t no reason for me to return except Raggae and rum
And get the valet to pull around our car, but not Jake, he’s too dumb

And you all can do me a favor and entertain me while I look down
I want to see every fool, every bigot and everyone I deem a morose clown
So I’ll just remain up here with my angelic life that keeps me calm
Whilst my angel and I have a wager on who will be the first one to release a nuclear bomb

The Other Side

What awaits on the other side
After death takes one's breath away
Billions have taken that last ride
Yet what awaits no one can say

A belief is just a belief
It may provide some with solace
And give a measure of relief
But it's not a proof in this case

All persons will know the answer
When death comes knocking on their door
That's all that can be said thus far
And how it may be evermore

About this poem:
“Strange, is it not? that of the myriads who
Before us pass'd the door of Darkness through,
Not one returns to tell us of the Road,
Which to discover we must travel too.”
(Omar Khayyam – The Rubaiyat, verse 46)

Omar Khayyam was a Persian mathematician, astronomer, and poet.
He was born on May 18, 1048 and died on December 4, 1131.
The verse of his poem quoted was written more than nine centuries ago. The message of his poem still holds today.

My poem, “The Other Side”, is in line with the quoted verse from Khayyam's poem and is not meant to disparage the religious beliefs of anyone.

The Corner

Hangin' out on the corner is,
A fine pastime that educates.
With poems from all walks of life,
It sometimes even leads to dates.

The subjects too are varied wide,
From love to hate and all between.
From flow'rs and trees to cars and boats,
It really is a happ'nin' scene.

It teaches and it entertains,
From minds and hearts around the globe.
With worlds of words that cross the seas,
To hit you in the frontal lobe.

Community, comraderie,
With comments kind in thoughtful prose.
Emoticons add style and flash,
Usually add some of those.

Sometimes our tears are brought to eyes,
From verses touching from the heart.
And others make us laugh out loud,
With silly lines from some ol' fart.

BREAKFAST AIN'T EGGS BENEDICT FOR SURE

YOU CAN ARISE WHENEVER YOU CARE TO
THAT'S ONE REASON I AM JEALOUS OF YOU
FOR BREAKFAST YOU CAN EAT WHATEVER YOU PICK OUT
ALAS, AS FOR MY FIRST MEAL THERE IS NOT EVEN A DOUBT

I KNOW PRECISELY WHAT WILL BE ON MY METAL TRAY
EXCEPT SOMETIMES IT'S MILK OR O.J. TO BEGIN THE DAY
YOUR PANTRY IS FULL OF SUSTINANCE I DON'T EVEN RECALL
AS I USE AN OLD FILTHY AND FADED TEE SHIRT AS A SHAWL

YOUR LUNCH TIME MIGHT BE AT THAT LITTLE TAVERN WE KNOW
BUT NOW MY LUNCH TIME IS DELIVERED ROW BY ROW
THAT COZY TAVERN MEANT A LOT TO ME
AND SO DID MY BEING FREE

BUT POWDER AND PAIN BROUGHT ME HERE
AND HERE I WILL STAY YEAR AFTER YEAR
I RECEIVE CENSORED LETTERS IN MY PERSONAL MAIL
THE ONES THEY ALLOW ME TO READ HERE IN JAIL
