RE: Deflation devestates China's economy

Devestates? Reminds me of Spike Milligan's famous e[itaph: 'I told you I was ill' The western media has been making such claims of China's economy for years and years and years. Yet their growth rate still sits at double that of other, G7, G20 economies. Definitely slowing but ...

RE: Mañana, mañana...

It's Peggy Lee time:

I see it was recorded 1947, but my recall is from the early 50s

RE: One Belt and Road Initiative growing stronger

@butch to our great shame it has (predictably) been rejected 60-40 more or less. And I see kiwiland has a National Party government again... I recall the dreadful days of piggy Muldoon.

RE: "PLEASE? JOE BAYDEN! "

@rsxde That is just about the most anti-religious racist biased garbage I have ever seen. Creep!

RE: "PLEASE? JOE BAYDEN! "

@sala you are mistaken if you believe money alone can quench a thirst for death and murder. Hatred is not so easily extinguished, particularly when it is inherited generation after generation and fed further and inflamed as it is by the Israelis. There is no right side. One is determined to exterminate the other, who in term are determined to subjugate the dispossessed.

RE: Qualifications to become Speaker of the House...

Let me point out that Democrats could simply have decided this is not useful to the country, and rejected the motion. It is the democratic quandary that the opposition HAS TO oppose and discomfort and inconvenience the government, it seems. It has done no one any good. Pelosi had placed restrictions on who could make such a motion, but the intransigeant far right Republicans removed this protection.

RE: What's Your Favorite Music Video?

just discovered this today - what fun to make such a video at the height of lockdown! Just look at the multitracking and video techniques.

RE: Trump Told Australian Billionaire Nuclear Sub Secrets

@chanc Oh yes he did. He flagrantly mocked the reporter by mimicking his disability.

RE: I want to go on a cruise ;)

@butch - look up the Mikhail Lermontov, Marlborough sounds. And then there was the Wahine, I remember the sound of the wind and the charcoal sky that day.

RE: I want to go on a cruise ;)

Maybe we should add the Whakaari (White Island) New Zealand cruise of a Royal Caribbean ship to this list of cruising delights

Or perhaps the Mikhail Lermontov?

RE: Gray, not blue

and yet another one (but Russian) also not so far away in St Petersburg. Seemingly identical weather!

RE: Gray, not blue

I have a family of four Vietnamese in Helsinki (pretty much in your neck of the woods) as students, and regularly look up the weather there. The forecast is indeed pretty dismal - 8 days 7 of them raining solidly and one with glimpses of sun. Most days 4-10° or thereabouts, yet the boy is still wearing a short sleeve t-shirt!

RE: Intellectual Onanism ONLY Anti-Biden posters allowed.

Onanism - a word I have never heard spoken, it's always been in print. Much more usual to hear the four-letter word with a single vowel, or one of several phasal verbs also with four-letter bases. Myself, mmm, I quite like the Chinese phrase - 'da feiji' or 'shoot the plane'.

RE: Wow you all mised this TRUMP dig.

No we didn't, but we just didn't see fit to comment on it.

RE: “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”

I happened to watch a Jordan Peterson youtube on IQ and the ethnic/cultural connection. To my mind, interesting and thoughtful, as you might well expect. Quantitative differences across ethnologies may be unexplained but statistically reliable. Jewish people as a whole score 110, significantly higher. The US armed forces make use of the measure. 83 as a level of inutility.

RE: I was wrong, Trump does care about the environment

Marmite man? I rather resent that, although I come from Vegemite land in fact, but I did indeed live in Marmite land, and value it as a spread vastly superior to anything the stout ex-potus with the overlong red ties has to offer. Please do not denigrate Marmite on toast! Just be sure to spread it very very thin.

RE: So Finally

What on earth is Burgess Meredith doing in that first youtube?

RE: One Guilty. Eighteen more to go...

@hooklineandsinker_returns you swallow this nonsense story when enquiry and committee and courts unanimously dismiss such concocted stories. More fool you. Consider the Fox vs Dominion case. There is no evidence of cooking the vote, yet gullible idiots persist in claiming there is. You are one such, and perhaps believe in the tooth fairy too, perchance? The court cases and evidence given and accepted are and will be impeccable.

RE: I was wrong, Trump does care about the environment

@DL on your oft repeated but emphatically off-topic 'FREE JULIAN', three US POTARSES have had ample opportunity to terminate the persecution. It is the unrelenting determination of a wounded America that is the root cause. Britain kowtows, as does Australia, to this insistence.

RE: Great Wall of China begins to crack

As to 'execution for repeated bankruptcy' you should check your facts. There is a claim of 'formerly' but I cannot find a case. It is not part of 21st century law in China, to my knowledge.

RE: Great Wall of China begins to crack

everywhere you go in China you see derelict unfinished buildings - money seemingly down the plughole. Yet the much predicted and certain collapse has not happened, probably entirely due to CCP props. I remember seeing a ghost city near Chaoyang and Kaozuo Liaoning about 10 years ago, walking through the empty carless peopleless streets, 40-60 highrise buildings, wondering 'what this is all about?' - yet now my longtime Liaoning deep-throat tells me, finally all done, parks in bloom, roads thronging with people and streets jammed with cars.
The western financial pundits seem to indulge in wishful thinking, they probably short the market.
I have no idea how it works, but there you go, the ghost city springs back to life.

Vitriol? You consider that vitriol? Oh come off it - super-diluted vitriol you could drink through a straw like a fizzy drink, probably not even pH sensor detectable.

RE: Time to make a change!

178cm is 5'10" or thereabouts, not 5'7"

RE: Jaws of life...

Ah then that might explain why you are so often left with egg on your face? Hmmm? Boots are typically below eye-level of course.

RE: Jaws of life...

you'd probably be pelted with eggs if you were to sport a leather jacket these days.

RE: Jaws of life...

Probably not, they are also federally protected and may well need authorised people to effect the euthanasia. Euthanasia is also the term applied here in case of removal of dangerous crocodiles. Of course it is a euphemism... and prevents old codgers like me from writing to the editor with righteous rage about cruelty.

RE: Jaws of life...

Stupid? I see nothing stupid about that at all. You have no idea whether the woman stupidly wandered into the known domain of alligators and exposed her to risk. Nor do you know (yet) that the alligator was the cause of death. Humans have chosen to inhabit the domain of alligators
Nypost quote:You don't propose to exterminate them, do you? Or perhaps you do. There are less than 10 attacks each year it seems.
Many Australians live in the domain of crocodiles here, in the North of Australia, the crocodiles being larger and more aggressive, but deaths are about 0.5 per year in the affected states, significantly less than death by sharks. Both sharks and crocodiles are protected here.
