RE: How Much Did The Politicians Spent/Spending On War

If I had heroes Smedley Butler would be one of them. He had integrity. He let doing the right thing destroy him. When the Office Plat recruiters approached him, even if he had just declined the offer he would have profited. Instead, he led them on long enough to identify the prime movers (as well as the identity of the wealthy Army General who would keep the army forces from intervening when US Marines from the 8th St. Barracks attacked the White House, then he told the FBI and the newspapers what he knew.

It cost him. It also mashed fascism in America and brought some of the racketeers he speaks about personal bodyguards in the form of FBI Agents with (personal from J. Edgar Hoover) instructions to put a bullet in their head if they continued the plot (to include non-approved meetings between certain persons). His honesty changed America too. It allowed Roosevelt to stay in office and the New Deal and Social Security to become a reality. It allowed many of the racial and social reforms begun by Eleanor Roosevelt to happen. Later of course the changing world situation led to a softening of hostility between the White House and the wealthy industrialists behind the plot. In return for helping gear up America for the coming war (profiting along the way) they were allowed more personal freedom and the FBi watchdogs were pulled.

We should note that not only was General Butler the most decorated Marine ever (a title he retained until only fairly recently) but at the time of his retirement as Acting Commander of the USMC, he was only 50 years old. He died at he age of 59 in mid 1940 of a sudden abdominal distress suspected to be some kind of cancer (no, he was neither X-rayed nor autopsied).

I strongly suspect had he not suddenly grown ill and died in two years he would have been pulled back into active service as his old nemesis MacArthur was and that WW2 may have had a totally different military history.

RE: I think Trump just got BUSTED!??

Surely the adults here realize almost all males talk like that amongst themselves and often boast of conquests never done.

RE: I think Trump just got BUSTED!??

Just finished reading the latest of the 229 new Hillary emails. I again vote NO to Hillary. Trump wins by default yet again. grin grin

RE: I think Trump just got BUSTED!??

It changes nothing. He is still a much better choice than the thieving, lying, murderous Hillary.

Avenge Vince Foster. laugh

RE: Did you watch the 2016 Vice Presidential Debates?

Yes, I watched it. Very boring. Hard to believe it was the same race. laugh

As Angel says, drop the number ones, and let's vote for their twos instead.

I definitely disagree with you. Pence did much better than Kaine. Kaaine seemed to be mostly about mud slinging and weak on Hillary's policies. Perhaps she has none, beyond make it up as she goes along? Whatever. Kain interrupted Pence and spoke out of turn at least 78 times according to WTOP (a pro-Clinton radio news station that acctually speaks truth now and then when not interviewing Mexicans about Donald). In truth, Kaine came across as churlish and not anyone I would want near a seat of power. Clearly some his supporters who voted him in in the past saw a new negative side to him last night.

RE: Rough day today...

Next time get a pet dragon. They make more useful watch animals anyway. If there is an intruder or a troublesome editor they just cook and eat them.

RE: Rough day today...

It had to have been an imaginary car too otherwise it wouldn't hurt.

It is October AND they are back

I have so many deer I lost count years ago. I chase them from my front door periodically. Except during hunting season of course. Then I just leave the door open so as to minimize my time outside. rolling on the floor laughing

Note to self: eating an entire large roasted squash in one sitting leaves one feeling very stuffed. laugh

RE: Panic on Tenerife

Luckily that is not the island our Homeland Security keeps one eyeball on. Of course if that one does blow, there probably won't be much warning. The one in the article, yawn. Some lava and a fireworks show. Not a biggie way over here. The other one, well no one really knows a good defense against a thousand mile wide tidal wave.

2 vine harvest

Lou - We agree on the spaghetti squash too. I wanted to plant some this year along with the butternut, but none of the stores where such seeds are usually found had any on the days I visited. Worth noting this year's crop of butternut squash seeds all came from pulled out of store bought squash I was going to eat (and did). So not all seeds of veggies sold in the supermarket are sterile. Next time I see a spaghetti squash for sale I will buy it and save the seeds.

2 vine harvest

I used on of the small ones last night to make the fritters in the video. Quite good even though my sage was chopped from a bottle.

I mostly use butter with Squash, and I have done them with olive oil. However, these things are so good you could probably use Canola oil and they would still taste just fine. grin

RE: Peace on the blogs

Kind of boring actually. :( laugh

RE: Trouble

Chained and not set free is uncomfortable, perhaps. Depends on who is doing the chaining, and will they remember to feed me>

Still it is much better than being placed in chains in a deep pit, then having the pit filled with concrete.

Sometimes that happens. LoL banana

RE: Just stuff. I need another distraction other than

BTW, I did a good Ebay score 2 days ago. Bought a bunch of stuff at an estate sale there way under value and listed in the wrong category too. Gotta love those 3am 'ending now' auctions.

Next time, Burger King, or McD. I like the big meals of steak houses. I want a 22 ounce prime rib every time. Yum.

Test for women: what's this for?

Sorry Molly - Kevlar is a form of Nylon. Both types, 29 and 49. Credit for inventing Nylon goes to a male, Wallace Carothers. Lifeboats? LoL, no. Maybe the woman you name somehow claims credit for the word itself, but actually they have been around since Men took to sea, back when having women on a boat was considered to be a prelude to disaster and folks had to pay extra tariff to get a boat crew to allow a woman on board. Back in days of yore they called them a dinghy or a raft. Inflatable rafts became common just before WW2, but I think since several countries had different adaptations of the new rubberized fabrics in the same year, it would be hard to say any specific person had the idea first. For what it is worth, William Wouldhave, a male and or Lionel Lukin, also male, is who Wiki credits with inventing the term lifeboat, both back in the 18th century. Noted that in 1802 England's Parliment credited Henry Greathead, another male, with inventing the lifeboat.

KNenagh - I stumble over which one you mean.. One grew pregnant with our twins, but aborted them on a whim and announced the intent to do that only after it was done, so of course I won't talk to her anymore and block her phone. There is another one who lives in walking distance (long walk) and is now a grade school teacher, we still meet to chat a bit. The third one, who may have been 25 then is graduating this coming spring and making noises about taking a sailing cruise with me then. Agreed that not all dates are with the intent of getting married.

Test for women: what's this for?

So far Diova has come closest. Not correct, but close. grin

Test for women: what's this for?

I interpret the lack of a good answer as an indicator of just how disconnected a lot of the women here are from the things that actually make the world tick. I know in some cases it is the result of a cultural view that their little minds couldn't handle knowing how things work or are made, so no one taught them. However, although that explains the young ones not knowing, but in the case of the women over 40 such an ignorance displays a lack of desire to self improve, as they are old enough to have realized they were left out of certain loops when growing up but wrongly decided it didn't matter.

I confess to being a little shocked. We have several women here who speak of farm life or owning properties and businesses. Gosh, I have even seen some profiles that speak of being sheet metal workers, mechanics and machinists. I could understand the women who state they sell cosmetics, or work as cooks or nannies, and understand their lack of exposure. But from the women who claim occupations in which dirt gets under fingernails or hot metal sprinkles down the back of the neck I question their utility. Faced with such ignorance, I can only say, really? LoL

IMO such ignorance also speaks to why they are still unmarried at 40 and 50+. I knew I had found my future wife the day I learned she had rebuilt the carbertor of her dad's old 1950s pickup truck herself. Such a wife is and was useful. Much better than pretty but functionally useless ones I had previously dated Trust me, a woman who knows of such doo-hickeys jumps right to the front of the eligibilty line and is way better from a male perspective than one who can prattle off the names of Brad Pitt's girlfriends or who was in which rock band.

Male advantage. Anything manufactured a woman puts a picture up of, some man knows what it is, because the odds are a man or a company owned by a man is where it was made. LoL

I would perhaps make a statement about gender equality, except I do know some women who do know what something like this is, and who like Blue and me make or buy their own now and then. Gosh, what a shame such women aren't easily found on CS.

If the gradient is

I am such a confused old man. devil laugh

RE: Chilling...

I can disco if I have to, but I more of a Waltz and Tango guy.

RE: Chilling...

Who knows how to dance? Is it necessary to be good looking? No. You just have to know the moves..

and as we see here, when a man knows the moves and can feel the beat, the partners will appear and dance with you.

If the gradient is

Yes, math is precise.

If the gradient is

Yes. a tenth of an inch every 2.33 inches which of course x10 gives one inch every 23.3 inches.

Privately of course I much prefer drillings at zero angle. But if I changed the placement of the channel, then other things would also have to change and then it wouldn't be a clone. :)

If the gradient is

Er you are correct. I get confused myself sometimes.

One must love the Internet. Where was it when I was 10?

The real world application is/was in machining (drilling) a firing pin channel while making a clone slide for a small pocket pistol, a .22 rimfire. The firing pin channel was inclined. Thhe firing pin channel is 2.3 inches long. If drilled at Zero degrees, the resulting pin location would be appropriate for a centerfire pistol, but not in the least appropriate for a rimfire pistol. One must move the firing pin location up a tenth of an inch. So then the calculation of the angle (using an inclinometer on the drill press) was essential.
