Oh gag me. That Texas Congresswomen reintroduces exactly the same bill year after year. Each time it goes to Committee the Committee sends it to DpJ for review and comments and each time DoJ points out the bill violates numerous Federal and State Court rulings and is patently unconstitutional on it's face. This has happened so often DoJ/Homeland now uses a form rejection letter they developed specifically for that bill. Once the DoJ letter arreves the proposed legislation dies as it should. And every year the same nutty Texas Congresswoman dusts it off and resubmits it again and again.
If they were using Newtonian Physics getting the mined materials back to their home star system would be absurdly slow and expensive. They would pretty much have to have a warp or wormhole technology to exen consider it. Of course the very nature of a warp drive means trans dimensional capability since they would have to leave this Universe to achieve a faster than light speed, then find their way back to the same Universe at journey's end (the math of the Lorenz calculations for that makes my head hurt and I think a new math is needed for those calculations). Anyway that also imp[lies they have already looted their home world in adjacent dimenisons where either their species never evolved or they simply killed everyone there and took what they wanted and brought it back to their Prime Universe under the theory we matter more than our duplicates do. But would that same species use probes that transmit by ordinary radio signal from far away star systems? Maybe the signal NASA Breakthrough detected was simply a spurious byproduct emission of a totally different FTL communications technology. All we can do is wait to see. Meanwhile we should get as many humans as possible off the planet in case it is suddenly sterilized.

There is actually a decent TV series about the social problems involved in mining the belt. The writers predict something more akin to a society of coal miners of yore supplying goods to the elite of Earth for pennies on the ton and in return a few luxuries from Earth and Mars factories trickle back. The atmosphere of Jupiter is almost entirely Hydrocarbons (read oil). We have found water ice on the moon, mars and Europa (not to mention the rings of Saturn). Our closest neighbor star, Proximi Centauri (where the radio squawk came from) is known to have an Earth like planet in the habitable zone and another ice covered giant planet further out. In short the two things we imagined were rare in the Universe, water and oil, are not rare. We now know that gravitational differentiation in the case of solar systems where no worlds formed arranged the different elements in concentric rings around that systems sun and using Keppler's equations we can forecast where the gold and the platinum ring areas should be (noting btw some of our system's asteroids seem to be pure elements and someone may someday get rich claiming a foot ball field size nugget of pure rhodium or gold, etc. Are diamonds really that rare when places like Jupiter and Saturn exist? Vierkaesehoch - I kind of agree. I think only a very primitive species (like us) would bother to try to navigate those distances with space ships traveling the vast voids. For it to even begin to be practical the ship would have to be traveling at near light speed and the only way we can conceive of doing that would be with a ram ship. But although the time on the ship would minimal, the sun of the planet the ship occupants left behind them would have probably nova'd long before a destination was reached. A ship traveling anything over 80% of light speed would have immense mass, sufficient mass to induce gravitational distortion of any light source behind it. We have for the past 10 years been searching the heavens for evidence of such a distortion. The work involves comparing the stars position today against old photographs, some going back to the 1920s, looking for changes in position. Although gravitational lensing has been identified, all of it has thus far been attributed to natural phenomena such as white dwarfs, or suspected black holes. Not one space ship has been detected. We now know the moon of Jupiter we call Europa has both liquid and frozen water on it. The tidal effects of orbiting Jupiter generate enough internal heat that life under the 10 mile thick ice crust possibly exists Anyway, regarding travel between the stars, we can speculate about a way to move from point A to point C without passing through point B. We so far lack that technology. That doesn't mean something else doesn't have it. There is a lot of discussion about that. So many issues. Even if you could create a stable worm hole, and make it large enough to use it to transport materials, where would you get the energy to keep it open? Plot the X, Y, Z, and T coordinates of the other side... Good luck with that because your T would not be a constant. Relativity messes up the math. The same theory that allows a worm hole also allows it to open on the other end at any time and even into another Universe. But for the worm hole to be usable you would have to know exactly which else when the other side was opened to. So if it exists, if there are other races using such things so they can take a summer vacation on a planet orbiting Rigel, then go to work on Monday on a planet orbiting Epsilon Auragae (for instance), then there math is HECK of a lot more advanced than our math.

Our Constitution says the tally can last until January. Should there be a tie or a winner somehow still not chosen, then the Constitution provides for a special session of Congress in January to decide the issue with each state getting only 1 vote. Sigh, there is a small flaw in that as originally there were but 13 colonies or states. An odd number, but now there are 50, an even number. The Constitution doesn't say what to do if it ties in the Congress. Will they keep voting until finally there is a majority, or should it go to the Senate for their vote or perhaps to the Supreme Court? This scenario no one anticipated in the 18th century.

There are 1,000+ approaches to explaining the Universe as a Theory. Unfortunately most of them approach it from different aspects. Requiring the theory be both simple and also covering all of the 1,000 aspects makes it almost impossible to articulate. What is one one side is hard to verbally connect to the other. We can talk about time, or we can talk about electromagnetism but articulating the connection between them is hard. I lack the wordsmith capability you seek. So I was hoping Ted or a similar venue could do the job for you. So far this is the best I have found, but I will continue to search for a more complete articulation. Consider this the front door of the theory you seek.

Well 2 things. First much of the world has no real access to health care and in many places when you die it is on a street or alley or in some hovel and no one puts a reason on a death certificate, they just bury you (or feed your corpse to giant cat fish) and move on. 2nd India's numbers are climbing fast.
