I was in a car yesterday with a Russian woman wearing a full length fur coat, I actually felt physically sick, can't bring myself to wear real fur no matter how cold it is.
So, I'm here already and I did buy some lighter weight luggage, however when it was weighed at Heathrow it was still 7 kilos over the allowance, yikes! The nice check in lady turned a blind eye but I know they won't in Moscow when it's time to leave so I'll have to offload things!
Does it really matter here on CS? And yes, there is a lot of copying and pasting, but even that in itself doesn't necessarily mean the copier isn't intelligent, though I personally dislike reading over long texts copied and pasted without any sensible personal comments.
I think your main concern was your perceived poor use of English, this is an International site and this forum in particular has many members for whom English is not their native language. We still communicate well and at the end of the day we all (at least the vast majority) have one thing in common don't we?
Eggs, goats cheese, pickled beetroot, grape juice, trout for dinner today, sad, wilting rocket, 2 bottles of beer which don't belong to me, black olives, a green pepper and...... my nail varnish.
It's 23.20 Russian time, I'm here all dressed up in my little black cocktail dress, but nobody else has arrived.
I'm getting picked up at 5.00 am for a business trip to Moscow so can't hang around, have fun those of you who are here later and Happy Valentines Day!
Good post and you are right, before we can make objective comments we must be culturally aware. Of course to our western eyes and ears this is quite shocking but there is more to be learned before we can sit in judgement.
Many posts from non Americans here on CS are criticised and the posters are told to keep their noses out on the grounds that non Americans know nothing about life, culture, politics in the USA nor live in the USA. Not that I agree with this of course, we Europeans take great interest in the world around us and are well informed.
I'm trying to learn it! My students just want to do everything for me so it's difficult! The people who know me are so kind to me here but in the street people are a little cold....in more ways than one! Though when they hear me speak English they stare and some try to talk to me, they are so interested to meet a European. Remember though I work outside Moscow in a small, industrial town so I'm a novelty for them.
My students say it's because I have a smiley face!
Hey gangel, I have a friend here whose daughter likes to take me shopping, she's a sweetie, around your age and her name is Zlota. Is that a Bulgarian name?
It's also another excuse for cake! Russian people , or those I've met, seem to have a very sweet tooth and love eating cake. Sadly I'd rather have a piece of cheese!
Lots of celebration days here in Russia, interestingly International Women's Day on 8th March is a public holiday. How great is that! As far as I know Europeans, well at least in the UK and Spain, don't have a day off work like the Russians for this special day.
Seriously though, I hope you all have a great time and I'd love to be able to join you. Just think, you're all going to meet Queen Smoky too, lucky people!
If categories are removed how can we learn about our fellow members and discover who may or may not be a potential partner?....if that's why you are here of course.
There are probably more people who dislike the 'above you' threads or 'word association' where does it end? Should we just be left with flirty, dirty categories? I hope not!
That could work, unfortunately Chavez shows no respect to other democratically elected leaders around the world....not only Mr Bush has suffered his insults....though well deserved!
I wish I could say my life at the moment was just like Pushkin's great romantic novel, Eugene Onegin, but unfortunately it's more like Dostoyevski's From The House Of The Dead!!
Oooh sorry you said movies didn't you, I'll think again!
Questions for seasoned travellers.
