Oh look, it does annoy me sometimes because I teach English. My marking homework head goes into gear at times! However, we all generally type at amazing speed on the forums, so there are bound to be mistakes, and I make many too.
Sloppy is when people don´t check their profiles, and as the OP said, cv´s are a prime example of how, when poorly written, they can have an immediate, negative effect on a potential employer.
We aren´t applying for jobs here, but some people have the same criteria when reading profiles or e-mails expressing interest.
Most people, forgive the errors on the forums, and as the OP said, this has nothing whatsoever to do with people who are not native English speakers, or are truly dyslexic.
A little more effort writing profiles and communication via the mail option, goes a long way with me.
There is a fine line I suppose, but the difference is the way in which somebody portrays their character. I see nothing wrong in demonstrating self-confidence, but that also includes the ability to listen to others, which arrogant people fail to do.
Women too often have a problem when people mistake assertiveness for aggressiveness.
Hiding one´s light under a bushel though, is not self-confidence in my view.
But Butterfly, this is how the threads work. Input from everybody is welcome no?
Anyway, I wouldn´t fret too much about it, we all get the same emails and messages from youngsters, even if we have put a specific age range in our profiles.
Just learn to live with it as part and parcel of being on a dating site.
I don´t know, I thnk steroids are not the sensible way to obtain a certain look unless you are a competition bodybuilder and you have to go for that extra edge.
As for the protruding veins, I find it repulsive in both men and women. I can´t look at them, they make me queasy. Madonna, I think looks dreadful, those veins in her arms, in my opinion, just make her look older. The faces of marathon runners look aged beyond their years.
I also believe that we inherit a particular shape, me, I´m not overweight, but soft and curvy, always have been. It would mean constant workouts and steroid assistance for me to achieve the ripped look. I couldn´t be bothered I´m afraid to put in all that work and ingest drugs in order to maintain it.
And for what reason? We all age and our bodies change, a 45 year old, with the help of steroids is still never going to look like a 24 year old on the same fitness program. Just look at the legs of middle-áged people, men in particular, they are much thinner in general and the first to lose that spring.
Eyes dim, hair falls out, ears lengthen (men generally) skin wrinkles. No amount of exercise or steroids can bely this fact.
It´s a losing battle, and the best thing is to accept the ageing process and combat it as much as we can (for health, not vanity reasons) by gentle exercise, and eating healthily.
I´m keeping out of this. I have been slagged off in the past for pointing out things like this. I can´t help but notice it though, tis my job.
Anyway, the nominative form of the singular first person pronoun (I) is capitalised in English, unlike many other languages. I did think that the formal second person singular (Sie) is capitalised too?
RE: Rita is gonna make me RICH!!!!
It was a serious question. Am I missing the joke here?
And keep those boggle eyes away from me!
