I see a lot of very hard work going into the flirting here by many people, yet it doesn´t seem to result in the desired aim.

Why is that? I think I know of only three successful couples here in the 4 years I´ve been here.

The statistics are not promising are they?

But yes, the forums can be fun, if, and only if, they do not become a daily lifeline in the faint hope of something happening.

It seems to me most people have, and are simply members of a little social club.

Nothing wrong in that of course, it´s a very nice club much of the time, but it´s not really what most people had in mind when they joined is it?

Do you think we have all become a little too over-familiar and as a result, lost the romantic element?

I think it´s the same everywhere nowadays.

Nada! A few celery sticks, walnuts and yoghourt....and a swim....and half an hour on the exercise machine I´ve recently bought.

Giving up smoking means restricting the eats!

Sommer, I understand completely where you´re coming from. At times when I was married and my kids were younger, if I had a holiday from work it was bliss. I was the perfect housewife, and I loved it.

But, I think you would get bored eventually, as I know I would. I have female students my age, but with children at home (don´t forget I was only 18 when I married) and do not work, they also do not work much in the home. Here in Spain housewives generally have cleaners. I ask them if they get bored, No they say, why? when I can spend my days shopping and having lunch with friends! They have a life which I cannot comprehend.

I don´t think that I could find enough to keep me occupied and content in the house if I had a partner now. Just two people don´t forget, with kids it´s a different matter altogether.

Anyway, aside from all that, my work and students bring me so much joy and satisfaction....that makes me a happy person which in turn makes for a happier realtionship with a significant other...don´t you think?

I thought I had an admirer.

I had an African Grey parrot when I was a young teenager, he was gorgeous and with my tuition (see, my English teacher role was pre-destined!)he spoke beautifully.

But my horrible brothers were also teaching him to swear like a trooper!

It was weird, he would come out with nice expressions like hello, good morning, then suddenly start blaspheming!!

For the past three weeks, almost everytime I go out onto my balcony there is a loud wolf whistle.

I felt but couldn´t work out which flat opposite it was coming from, and to tell you the truth I didn´t stay out there long enough to find out.

Today, it happened again, followed by......... "hola guapa" (hello beautiful)........ The parrot can now talk!

He is beautiful though, an African Grey.
