Yes, living in Spain too, I know exactly what you´re talking about butterfly.
Ex-pats are leaving in droves, particularly the retired ones. I´m sticking it out, I love Spain, and the thought of returning to the UK fills me with dread.
Fortunately, although the academy where I work is losing some company clients (companies cutting back look at their training budget first, so English classes go out the window) my private students are increasing, because they realise that being fluent in English enhances their job/career prospects.
I am extremely shy, since I was a child, yet I stand in front of classes every day with confidence and gusto, and I overcome it with ease. Nobody believes I am a shy person, I have mastered it, as such, I can show an interest in somebody here if I want to. This is cyberworld after all! Nobody can see me blushing or registering enbarrassment.
Profiles do not always portray the real self, and I don´t believe it is shyness which prevents somebody from contacting you. Rather, they have read your profile and there is something which doesn´t quite fit.
Look, there are money grabbers, for example, and sorry to say in the main, young girls chasing older wealthy men, and there are those only interested in having a beauty or hunk on their arm.
Most people, I hope, are looking for more than that. However, when you are at a time in your life when you´ve struggled bringing up kids, divorced and now independent, you don´t want to go through that again.
I´m not looking for a wealthy man,or hunk of the month, but I don´t want to start supporting anybody at my age. It´s difficult enough supporting myself!
