It's strange, but they're the nearest thing to Pink Floyd I've ever heard in creative terms and to some degree style too, although somewhat limited in that they haven't extended their songs.
And that's why I adore Kid A...it's almost seamless...like a concept album should be. Amnesiac has stronger songs (they were recorded during the same sessions), but is less coherent, being a collection of songs only.
Good ones though!!! Knives Out is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Nicea means little. Scrolls are available dating hundreds of years before said council met up for tea and duplicity...the bible can be read and 'understood' as it was intended, without Nicea's meddling.
As for it's 'control' tactics, well, what we call control can also be termed guidelines. And unltimately, nobody has to follow them.
Because, and this needs to be understood, the bible oppressed nobody...people did. In the same was the koran is used to oppress, and countless other texts...anything can be used by anybody to manipulate.
At the end of the day, it's people shooting eachother in the backside...regularly and without shame. To focus ones disdain on anything else would be to miss the point entirely.
But, I guess it gives bitter, spiritually aimless sorts something to gnash their teeth on.
Friggin' love 'em...but hate the hype surrounding the band...kept me away from their music for years.
And OK Computer? Jeezus, that's one of the most over rated albums I've ever heard. Some great moments for sure, but NOT a great album by a long stretch.
I love Kid A...one of my all time fave albums...and Amnesiac ain't far behind...stunning suites.
