Those oil resources are expensive and hard to reach, and on the other hand renewables are unreliable.
Couple this with the fact that every home and every business is inefficient by comparison to 2019. 2020 was a year of rationing so the prices were artificially deflated. But in 2021 we bounced back to even greater demand than 2019(because of money printing and sitting alone at home with the windows open in November)and a supply chain riddled with issues.
As for Boris I'll live with him because the one thing worse than a hypocrite is a true believer in lockdown. Boris has been forced into imposing restrictions by the upper classes and it's wealth of first world problems. It would put me off if he was a great believer in first world problems, better that he is manipulated by the powers that be rather than one of its brainwashed acolytes.
And even then you're talking about a few places. You could sit out the fight while the great masses of humanity perform the unenviable task of taming covid. We wouldn't get the blessing of omicron without a chunk of humanity living with covid like it was usual.
Even if that were so you would want to build up immunity now before it gets worse. But no it is evolving to become milder which if anything justified zero covid as an old strategy. It's much better for omicron to be your first exposure than what came before. Perhaps you could wait for a future variant even more mild but you're living in the real world where covid isn't the only thing that hurts.
I want to know if your mum was a crackhead and single parent. What the tremendous odds you've overcome are. Your high school was responsible for how many stabbings? These are the facts that count.
The properties of COVID are perfectly adapted to first world problems. How many kids will an aging population kill to cheat death for another week? A lot is the answer to that. The pandemic is like the pension system but worse. One generation goes from cradle to grave without struggle whilst all others are annihilated.
The last time we saw so much of that was the post war world. Catching flu, throwing punches, using long words - all done by the same bloke. You don't get this so much now with the spinelessness of woke and the mindlessness of Trump.
Or maybe working class come good goes mad in another way. One that isn't allergy and anxiety, or ocd. But I certainly would argue the role of posh spaz. Intelligence makes safespace and safespace makes anxiety. The more domesticated, the more secure the worse anxiety gets.
I would argue that the modern world was built by the salt of the earth getting educated. We gained access to the genes of little Einsteins who nevertheless lived the lives of real men. We fall down without them.
But I don't know whether it's intelligence that creates fear or the environment created by the intelligent that creates fear? Is it just a posh spaz whose health and safety measures work too well? If we had social mobility would the intelligent still be anxious? Would people who tear themselves from nothing have the same anxiety disorder? Is it not intelligence so much as how intelligence overlaps with posh spaz?
Being natural is what makes covid go easy on us. As a reserve of normal human beings Africans have acted as a bridge between covid and the modern sterile.
