It is very easy to be happy.

if you think you have nothing in your life to be happy, see those who need crutches or a wheelchair to walk a step, still you have two legs, two hands, two eyes.
You have enough in your life to be happy, you just have to accept what you have and don't expect what you don't have, you just do what you can.
What you got very easily, many do not get even after hard work.

It is very easy to be happy, you just need to change your way of thinking.

Yearly sanity trip to Portugal.....

....not merely due to such dreadful Maine winter weather. And more than just having to put up with such a crazy US POTUS. ( Even though I applaud some of the promises he"s actually keeping, as some of us have blogged on here.) Actually working on dual citizenship, based on family ties here. Spoke the Azorean Portuguese dialect as a boy, growing up in an Island community near Boston, but it slowly disappeared over the years, being replaced by other tongues. But the passive vocabulary remains, so I'm learning, via Duo Lingo on line, and total immersion here. And my cousins who have been successful with this goal, tell me the bureaucratic Portuguese migration language exam is murder, even for such a one in a kind brilliant homem such as I---well, perhaps Trump is just a bit more intelligent. But I digress. Not for everyone, the life here, ---thin jacket winter climate, cobblestone streets, outdoor cafes, public organic markets, decent art and university scene, lovely people, simpler life style, deadly crazy drivers, adorable women, men much less attractive than me, white wine to die for (reds are just OK), great 5.0 beer, killer 420-for those unlike me, interesting flora and fauna for backpacking, incredible local food, and all at the lowest prices in western Europe. But don't take my word for it. VISIT some day---very affordable vacations, if done like the disturbingly cheap bastard that I am. Mr. Prenuptial Man-Vierk.

Oprah lost 40 pounds...

Oprah lost 40 pounds... again. I was in college and recall Oprah coming back from hiatus. The first show of the new season had her wheeling out a toy wagon with a big chunk of blubber on it to represent the weight loss she had in the off season.
That was in the 1970's and considered a really big thing. They didn't talk much about her dietitians and fitness team working her thighs 10 hours a day, forcing her to do what she couldn't do alone.
So here is is some 50 years later and it's become a top story that Oprah lost 40 pounds. Again... and her fans react: ‘I Can’t Get Over How Amazing She Looks’

I can't get over how she blimped and lost, blimped and lost, blimped and lost at least 10 times in those 50 years.
Obviously, she hasn't learned the secret of losing and keeping it off.

One door closes.....another opens wide....

....so, with all the worldwide qvetsching about novid 19, all the gloom and doom, I boldly ask, what about the PLUS sides of this latest pander demic? I can think of lots of these. No doubt so can the Brilliant and Dazzling CS Posters' Club. For starters, I no longer have to make up stupid and impossible to believe lies about missing tedious meetings. Did so already several times this week. To whine is human, to be grateful, and sneaky, divine. What a Virus---what a Country!

The best typ of profile photo

Who has the best typ of profile photo, who has the worse.
What is the profile holder trying to give us a message.
There are the blanks (all painted one colour)
There are the hidden, you see the tip of their heads (at least those have hair, or a cap?)
There are the body free, showing mostly skin (OK we all have skin, so what is so special about him/her)
There are the masked ones showing us - what? My interpretation - stupidity
and there are, landscapes, houses, animals, and more - why bother at all!

On the other hand there are some lovely photos, my favorites are the ones where they show the person and a finger is shown towards you, to make you feel, your the one for me.
Your impressions?

what is your definition of a easy going man vs a guy who faces life with all its challenges?

Here is my definition of a easy going man vs a guy who faces life with all its challenges.
I think easy going is lazy/ignorant/ at facing issues and problems/ could be deceitful at times, lacking the maturity to face problems and find solutions, or not wanting to appear to be arrogant?

On the flip side: Mature man who had to face difficult and find solutions/military trained/ had a solid family rules structures. A person who does not quit on life.

What is your opinion?

blackberries (and cvd)

When the virus occurred, I guess almost everyone of us must have been hit in one way or the other.
It struck me at least 3 times, one time I lost my breath for a full day, was not able to climb stairs or I thought I'd die soon.
Though I'm still here, as most of us are (with some exceptions, my elderly foster mum and dad, for instance) it seems, a lot has changed since then. Yes life just does not feel the same - what is back to normal?
On certain days, death might appear closer than life?
My bowels started to have allergic reaction to almost all food, except vegetables and fruits (and nuts - leaving me act like a squirrel when munching them).

At some stage, smell was gone. Being slightly autistic, the fact that I could not smell had significant impact on how I perceived the world around me.

Due to my lack of understanding and persistance, my life was off the hinges before 2020.

Being in isolation has tought me, there is not a single person who can be in charge of my life. I knew this before, but to some extent I had to be reminded again obviously.
If I want to live, I have to take over. Not depend, nor being in need on / of others.

Dramatic circumstances drew me back to prayer, and G'd.
Sad to acknowledge really, but this is the truth, in my case.

While living my life now, day by day, taking moments step by step learning to walk like a little one...

A few days ago I was walking home from work through rural area where I live. Alongside the road grow bushes of blackberries. Loads, of blackberries.
And suddenly I noticed, like, a light was switched on:
Every single one of those blackberries look a tiny bit different!

And, guess what? I also noticed, they all TASTE different, too.

I cannot recall ever having had this sensational taste before? It was like, another dimension?

So, my smell and taste are back, vaguely I remember a few weeks ago I asked G'd to heal things in our bodies as a general prayer, for all people.

How great, amazing this is, I cannot put this in words? What a Creator we have.

This whole thought and idea makes me humble and small, and yet He wants to share His greatness with us?

So the end of the story for the moment is this:
I can live my life, without G'd. Without acknowledging who He is, and what He has done and does and will do.

And end up in a pretty messed up position with myself.

If I choose to listen to Him, and acknowledge who He is... my blackberry G'd...

Disclaimer: this is a momentus sharing personal experience. And even though I write: 'we' feel free to think and believe differently. The faith has to come personally into one's life. There will always be some questions unanswered. x

Spending a million bucks to look like a million bucks...

I have some wealthy clients who know a healthy diet and exercise doesn't always 'hold back the years' and they resort to a little 'nip & tuck' (read: plastic surgery) to maintain their youthful appearance.

Many years ago, I was working for a custom millwork shop and assigned to work on a project for the new offices of a famous plastic surgeon. It was reported his first client scheduled in the new facility was actor Leslie Nielson. This happened shortly before he filmed The Naked Gun movie.

You can quote me on this: "Good plastic surgery is when people say you look terrific and scratch their head wondering how you look so fine and they don't."

I knew a local designer who really got his money's worth. They pulled his face tight... like a bongo drum! It was so strange, people often talked about it. He wore a full wig but his arthritic body appeared to be screaming in pain. You could see darkened age spots in his hands. I'm guessing he was in his 70's.

A boss I worked for was Scottish and had the trait of 'Jawls' where his cheeks drooped and eyelids also had excessive skin. His son had the same traits/characteristics and after graduating high-school had surgery to remove his baggy eyelids. The surgeon trimmed the extra skin at the fold line/wrinkle in his eyelids. Surgery... success.
Exercise made sweat drip into his eyes causing irritation. After surgery the problem was greatly reduced.

Maybe you've seen the real-life woman obsessed to look like Barbie, where the young woman had a Blepharoplasty... literally tightly pulling the skin around her eyes. Frightening to think someone so young would spend so much on looks... considering she was beautiful to start with.

I used to say, when turn 60 I'm going to have my 'bags fixed' a trait with me as long as I can remember, including baby pictures. I've heard all excuses why I have them... lack of sleep, allergy, hereditary. Instead of a trip to a plastic surgeon, I took a trip to China and that was a better investment. The idea plastic surgery has dropped so far down on my do list I'm not thinking about it anymore.

Everyone has reasons to justify plastic surgery. Not every surgery comes out as expected. There are hundreds of internet photos showing botched facelifts, many are of movie stars... people who can afford the best, unfortunately it turns out to be the worst.

I discussed with my wife if she wanted a boob job. We know it's expensive. I've got some of the money saved and I would have to take a bank loan for the rest. She doesn't want to go into debt over surgery, so my only suggestion is to get one boob done now and the other when we have more money.
