Information about who I am

I have seen several people call me Phil, so I thought I would write a short blog containing information about me.

So let's get started!

My first name is Danny. Philipsen is my surname, and the name I go by online. Well, when I game, my online name is Sn3glZ1ll4 or Snaggles.

I was born on a summers day way back in 1984, which makes me 34 years old. I don't feel like a 34-year old, though. I still feel young at heart, which is something that I really love. I am a non smoker and I don't drink (cut to me buying a Magnum sized champagne yesterday). I live with a friend in a town called Greve, south of Copenhagen. I am unemployed, but I hope to be employed before the end of the year.

I have two siblings, a brother and a sister. I don't see them much, and our relationship is very rocky. We can put aside our differences and work together, when the need arises.

I am an avid video gamer. Over the next month, I will get my hands on two new games: Farming Simulator 2019 and Just Cause 4. You could say I am a hardcore gamer, but not on a competitive level.

My sense of humor is sarcastic, with a bit of dark added to it. I love puns, dad jokes and VERY bad jokes. One in particular: What do you call a fish with no eyes? Fsh. I love writing dad joke level comments to pictures, and I often respond with memes.

But most of all: I am a down to earth guy, who just wants to be loved.

So there you have it. An extremely short version of who I am. More can be told via a message!

Zenvo - what is it?

Back in 2004, a small company put Denmark on the map, when it comes to car production. That company was Zenvo, and it was founded by two guys, who aimed to make a luxurious, high-performance automobile, capable of playing with the big boys over at Lamborghini and Ferrari.

The result was the mind-blowing ST1, a brutal beast with 1104 horsepower, from a 7.0 liter Corvette V8 engine. The design was aggressive and still extremely striking, and it kick started an adventure that few believed in, even me. I though "No way in Hell can this succeed!", but they are still here, 14 years later.

So, how did this brutal machine look like? It looked like this:

My first reaction was "Wow! That looks amazing!", and maybe, just maybe, this would be a success.

Fast forward to Top Gear testing the car. It was a PR disaster! The car caught fire, and it ended up being slower than a family car. But, in Zenvo's defense, Top Gear tested the car in undriveable conditions. A very wet track, and the setting in the most brutal position, made the car a handful to control.

Since 2012, Zenvo has been owned by Russian investors, but they are still based in Denmark. The factory is an hour away from me, which is very weird to think about, in a way.

So, this Zenvo.. How much is it? Well.. You see, that's the thing.. If you have to ask, you cannot afford it. But it is at least 1.8 million dollars. And the new one is even more expensive. It is called the TSR-S, and it is a road legal version of the TSR, which is the racing version of the TS1 GT, which is a further developed version of the TS1. It sounds confusing, but it really isn't.

The really great thing about this car, is that it is extremely easy to drive. It drives just like a normal car, and it is not uncontrollable like the Pagani Zonda R is. Well, it might be super hard to control when you go full Rambo mode in the TSR-S, but if you drive it like a normal car, it behaves just like a Golf. Or so they claim it does. I haven't actually driven it yet, and I doubt I will ever get the chance. Next year, the Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix is on, and if the Zenvo is there, I will definitely go for a ride in it!

So, ladies and gentlemen - introducing the Zenvo TSR-S! A 1170 horsepower animal, capable of going from 0-62 mph in just 2.8 seconds, and it is limited to 202 mph. It has a new wing, that reacts to the steering input, and it is the first on any car ever! "But Danny, what does it look like?", I hear you ask. Well, I am glad you did, because it looks like this:

Losing a parent!

This is a very personal blog, about a huge loss on my part.

One month and 14 days ago, my father passed away due to a long and tough battle with COPD. For the people who don't know what COPD is, it is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, otherwise known as smoking lungs.

I have not always been there for my father. When he was diagnosed, I remember thinking "We'll cure this! Easy! Give it a few weeks, and he will be back to normal"

But he wasn't cured.

A few weeks into his illness, I got the idea of going overseas to work. I got a job in Scotland, and I left when my dad's disease was worsening. During my time in Scotland, my father was admitted to hospital several times. His doctor overlooked the COPD symptoms, and misdiagnosed him. Even when he was having a pneumonia, the doctor mistook it for something else.

The disease took a huge toll on my father and my family. He couldn't go anywhere without gasping for breath. I really didn't like the way his health deteriorated.

During the last three months of his life, he only came outside twice. He was never able to attend family gatherings, unless it was in his apartment. He couldn't go on holidays with us, he was dependent on a mobility scooter and a wheel chair. It really bummed me out, because I would have loved to take him with me to Scotland. To London. To Prague. Sadly, he was never up for that, because he didn't dare to go. I understood him perfectly.

A few days before he died, he was admitted to the hospital with a ruptured appendix. They performed surgery on him, and the first few hours after it were good. He was responding well to the treatment, and he was expected to make a full recovery. Six days later, my sister called me, and said it was the end. That he was close to death. So I packed up some things, and waited for my sister to come and pick me up. We then picked up my brother, and then we went to the hospital.

When we got there, the head surgeon had prepared a room for us, where we could talk to the head doctor. He told us, that sometime during the night, my father stopped responding to the treatment he was given. They would continue to treat him, but if he wasn't responding to the treatment after two hours, they would shut the machines down, and let his body take its natural course.

We agreed that they should stop the treatment immediately, so that his body would decide if he should live or die. We sat down and began to tell stories about my fathers life, because the doctors told us, that the hearing is the last sense that leaves the body, so he could possibly still hear us. There were lots of laughs and lots of tears. We told tales from his youth, from when he took my brother, me and a friend to the airport to see the Concorde land. We told him jokes, made sure he was included in every conversation, and held his hands while we told the stories.

Four and a half hours after I arrived at the hospital, my father died, surrounded by the immediate family. The hospital staff was extremely kind to us, and they made sure we had everything we needed.

Two hours later, we said our final goodbye, while we played a song by an artist that he loved.

It is strange not having my father around anymore. I miss his sense of humor, his sarcastic outlook on things and I miss his generosity. I will forever miss his laugh!

He taught me one thing: No matter how tough things look, they will always be better in the end. I know that my father doesn't have any more pains. That he is in a much better place now.

I will be okay. I will just take a bit of time.

Serial swatter off to jail for "at least 20 years"

Tyler Barriss, a serial swatter lowlife from California, was recently arrested and charged with 51 felonies. If you are not familiar with the term swatting, it is the harassment tactic of deceiving an emergency service into sending a police and emergency service response team to another person's address.

A part of this particular lowlifes threats were aimed at:

Shopping centers
Schools
Movie theaters
Video game tournaments
Apartment complexes
Museums
TV stations
Universities

The latest incident that this lowlife created, was the death of a 28-year-old Wichita, Kansas father of two, named Andrew Finch. He was killed by local police in 2017 after Barriss called the cops on him. The reason Finch was shot, was because at some point during his initial contact with the police, he lowered his hands and went for his waistband. One police officer thought he was reaching for a gun, so the officer fired a shot, wounding Finch. He was taken to the hospital, where he died from the gunshot.

The officer was not charged with murder.

The reason for the swatting is absurd, to say the least! Apparently, two gamers were feuding on a game of Call of Duty. The reason for the feud? A $1.50 wager in one of the games. At some point, gamer A reached out to Bariss and asked him to swat gamer B. Gamer B then gave Bariss his former address, where Andrew Finch just happened to live. A horrible end to a stupid and pointless argument.

After the swatting, the whole thing came on the news, and Bariss took to Twitter to cement his innocence, writing "I didn't kill anyone, because I wasn't shooting the weapon".

Tyler is not the only one who enjoys swatting people. Just take a look at this compilation video of people getting swatted.

Swatting is pointless and stupid, not to mention dangerous. For his stupid actions, Tyler Bariss could now end up facing 25 years in prison. Particularly since he has done it before. So now he can look forward to a few years behind bars! At least he will not be able to swat anyone ever again!

I want to include you in this story, and I would love to hear your thoughts on this, and specifically the jail time that Tyler now faces. Do you think 20 years is enough? Does he deserve a longer sentence?

Please keep it civil, guys!

The Meg - a review!

Shark movies are always fun. Some are super stupid, like Sharknado, but generally they are extremely entertaining.

Combine a shark movie with the human fighting machine known as Jason Statham, and you have a surprise hit, that aims to chomp (see what I did there?) into the minds and fears of people all over the world.

Statham plays Jonas Taylor, an adventurer and expert sea diver. He experienced, according to him, a 70 foot shark attacking his vessel, forcing him to abandon his mission and half his crew. After being dishonorably discharged, he spent a few years getting over the incident, when he is recruited into rescuing a dive team that has had some sort of problem at the bottom of the Marianas Trench, the deepest known place on Earth. Once Jonas arrives at the vessel, it soon becomes clear, that what attacked this new crew, was the same as the thing that attacked Jonas' crew five years ago - a huge, prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon. The only problem, is that the Megalodon has been extinct for a million years - or has it?

That is the short recap of the story. Of course, lots of things happen, but I will not go into detail, just in case you haven't seen it.

In my first review of the movie, on a blog that I have elsewhere, I wrote that it should have been known as The Meh, but after re-watching it, I have changed my original opinion. It is a fun, no nonsense, adrenaline fueled popcorn movie, whose sole aim is to entertain with some fun shark action. One thing that I miss about the movie: It was rated PG 13 and not R. If it was rated R, I am confident that the movie would have been a LOT more gorier than it was. Of course there is blood in it, but not enough when you consider that it is about the Megalodon.

Acting wise, well there could have been some better performances. But it doesn't take away the fact, that this movie is just plain fun!

Other actors worth mentioning, apart from Jason Statham, is Ruby Rose, Rainn Wilson, Masi Oka, Bingbing Li and Cliff Curtis.

If you haven't seen The Meg yet, and are in the mood for some fun shark action, go see The Meg!

My original The Meg score was 5/10, but after seeing it again, I can safely give this an 8 out of 10!

Venom - a review!

Yesterday was the day when I decided to go watch the new Venom movie. I saw the teaser trailer a long time ago, and I wasn't really interested. But then when the first real trailer dropped, it peaked my interest.

The story is pretty straight forward: An investigative journalist, Eddie Brock, comes across a plot to fuse symbiotes from outer space with humans. The result is unknown, but has the potential to create life that will be able to live on Mars or even on the Moon. Not a bad thing, if I am honest.

Anyway, back to the movie!

It soon becomes clear, that these experiments has a somewhat unfortunate effect on people, because it ends up killing them. But not Eddie. It somehow bonds with him, and it transforms him into the character Venom.

I will not go into more detail, since it is still running in the cinemas, so if I go further, I will just spoil the movie for you, which isn't cool to do!

Usually when I review movies, I have three boxes that HAS to be ticked, in order for me to enjoy it!

1: Explosions! And lots of them!

2: At least one fist fight.

3: Car chases!

Venom ticks all those boxes! It has plenty of fist fights, some amazing chase sequences and a lot of explosions! Like - a LOT! Kaboom! One of them in particular made my inner 5-year old come out and go "awesome!"

It is rated PG 13, which shows. It uses a fair amount of humor, particularly the scene where Venom talks to Eddie for the first time, and when Eddie displays Venom's appearance to a neighbor who plays the guitar just a bit tooo loud.

Regarding the acting, well there is really not anything I can say was bad. I am not a Tom Hardy fan, but I liked him in this one. Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed and Reid Scott also does a great job! I was particularly happy with Riz Ahmed's performance as Carlton Drake!

All in all, it was a solid, entertaining movie from Sony, and you can tell Marvel had a big say in this one. It said "In association with Marvel", but I bet that they had more to to with it than they let on.

If you haven't seen Venom, now is the time to do so.

I shall give this an 8 out of 10!

Welcome to my universe

My first ever blog on this website. Hello! Nice to have you here!

I am an avid blogger, so I will probably use this daily. I can ramble along, and I can write extremely short blogs as well. I will write about life here in Denmark, what I think about in general, and also do some movie reviews.

But for now, this is my introduction to you all!
