The Quake - a review!

I mentioned in my previous blog, that I would see if I could find this movie, and watch it. Well, find it I did, and let me tell you - I did watch that. And I loved it!

In 1904 an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale shook Oslo, with an epicenter in the "Oslo Graben" which runs under the Norwegian capital. There are now signs that indicate that we can expect a major future earthquake in Oslo.

The main cast is the same from the first movie, although this time, the family is torn, due to Kristians wife divorcing him. Kristian lives in the now rebuilt Geiranger. He gets word that a friend of his was killed in an accident in an Oslo tunnel, so Kristian sets off to Oslo, to search for answers.

This movie is exciting, to say the least! Yet again, the VFX is stellar, and it's always impressive seeing a massive 35 story building fall down! They up the terror and the gore in this one, which is a welcome sight. A little blood didn't hurt anyone!

The Quake is better than The Wave, and my rating this time goes to - wait for it - 10 out of 10! (I think that's my first 10/10 this year)

This movie has it all: Thrills, destruction and top notch effects! Highly recommended if you want to watch some thrilling destruction!

The Wave - a review!

This is one of those "it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when" movies, since this movie very well will come to reality in the near future.

The Wave is based on the true story of a huge tsunami that hit Norway 80 years ago. The disaster was triggered when a mountainside collapsed, causing huge damage and casualties in a number of villages along Norway's fjords. A Norwegian geologist (played by Kristoffer Joner) and his family (Ane Dahl Torp, Jonas Hoff Oftebro and Edith Haagenrud-Sande) fight for survival when a massive landslide causes a 250-foot tidal wave. Such an event is very likely to happen again, but they don't know when.

Written and directed by Roar Uthaug, the movie is well paced and the buildup is great. The disaster itself is very impressively done, with some great VFX work.

There are a few Danish people in this movie, and they are, of course, killed off. And people wonder where us Danes get our small hatred to the Norwegian people. Just kidding, I love you, Norway!

Anyway, the movie.. It's well acted, and it's a genuine nail biter. A sequel, The Quake, is out now, and hopefully I can watch that at some point

A few action packed days!

Phew - I am exhausted!

Yesterday was an adrenaline fueled, extremely action packed day, where I slept in, played some video games, did some laundry and made homemade burgers for dinner (which were delicious, I might add. Not being biased, or anything). I finished my day with some more video games, a live stream and some YouTube videos.

Today is no different!

I slept in - again. I then played some more video games, and listened to some music. Then I did my dinner-shopping, which today is nachos.

I plan to make some of my World famous, award-winning meatballs, while I make the nachos. Seriously, my meatballs are THAT good, they have won an award.. Or at least in my mind, they have.

I really enjoy being home alone. It's so quiet and peaceful. No loud bass music, no PS4, no roommate and no messed up kitchen. Seriously, sometimes it looks like a bomb went off, and just covered the entire kitchen!

If you haven't noticed by now, some of this blog is extremely sarcastic. No prizes if you guess which part(s) are sarcastic.

That's all for now!

Kitchen fails and a big surprise!

I had a go at making nachos today, since that was supposed to be my dinner (which you already know, since you read my previous blog. Right? RIGHT?)

Anyway, I thought I made THE best nachos EVER, with the chicken strips mixed together with the cheese. I shoved that badboy in the oven, at 180 degrees, because someone told me I should do that. They also said, I had to give it 15 minutes, and then the cheese would be melted, and all would be good in the hood.

It wasn't..

The cheese hadn't even melted halfway. We are talking 180 degrees (Celsius, naturally), at which point the cheese SHOULD have been melted - but for some reason it wasn't. The cheese I got had "Melts easily. Perfect for oven-based dishes (OVEN BASED, like nachos), pizza and pasta" written on the bag.

LIES AND DECEIT, I tell you! Lies!!

Did I mention that the cheese wasn't melted? Because it wasn't, and I was getting hungry!

So, now you probably wonder "Did he use too much cheese?" ....I might have.. No wait, there is no such THING as too much cheese! Shush, you know it's true, Karen!

Anyway..!

I gave the nachos 30 minutes, and then I pulled them out of the oven. What greeted me was half-melted cheese, some of it was burned. I tried to taste it, but it just tasted off. Something was very wrong with the cheese.

Which is where the big surprise comes in: The cheese I picked was THE WRONG CHEESE! I was supposed to get creamy, gooey mozzarella, but I ended up with something that resembles cheese. It's labelled as pizza topping, but it's terrible. I thought I had done my due diligence on that, but no. Next time, I will ONLY use mozzarella!

Biggest single kitchen fail to date!

Sidenote: My meatballs were excellent, as usual!

Re-writing my screenplay?

The other day, I had what most writers/amateur writers has: A writer's block. After I wrote the initial beginning, I hit a wall. I remember thinking "How am I gonna proceed from this? I have no idea. Terror attacks in NYC has also been described a lot, so my story isn't exactly original"

So I am thinking about scrapping my current screenplay, and begin to work on an entirely different genre. In order to combat any future writer's block, I plan to flesh out everything: Characters, the setting, the plot and a log line. That way I will have a pretty rough idea of what to write, and what direction it should go.

Some might say that this is in response to reactions I got when I wrote a blog about what kind of story I was writing, but it isn't. If it was, I would have made this decision sooner.

Now I just need to figure out, what to write about..

Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix and Interstellar!

Yesterday, my friends boyfriend asked me if I wanted to go with them to the Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix, to which I said "Alright, sure!"

What a lovely day it was today! The weather was gorgeous, and the racing was stellar! At one point, we were standing at a corner, where you could see the action take place. Drifting, up on three wheels and amazing overtakes. It truly was a historic grand prix. I will definitely be back next year.

Then, when I got home, I did some shopping and then I watched Interstellar. It's a 3 hour movie starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Matt Damon. The story follows a group of astronauts, who are travelling through a wormhole, to find a place where mankind can survive, since out own Earth is dying.

The visual effects are amazing, and it's very well acted - something that I always expect in a Christopher Nolan film.

Sadly, I think it's way too long. I think they could have shaved 30 minutes of the total runtime, and still ended up with a movie worth watching.

Interstellar gets a 7/10 from me. It's not as amazing as people say it is, but it's not terrible either.

Facelift Deformation - Dominating The Extermination

Genre: Brutal death metal
Length: 20 minutes and 32 seconds
Released: May 7, 2018 via: Inherited Suffering Records
Country of origin: Hong Kong/Taiwan

Embedded image from another site

Members:

Larry Wang (Bass 2016-present)
Wilson Ng (Guitars 2016-present)
Randy Leung (Vocals 2016-present)

This band randomly popped up on my Spotify recommended, so I gave it a listen. I went into their stuff without reading anything about them, and wow! These guys play seriously brutal stuff!

The music is unforgiving. Super heavy and uncompromising. It's a full on assault on your ears from start to finish.

Stand-out songs on the 10 song full length debut album are: Defeated Righteous Origin, Dim Sum Massacre, Expanding The Hypocrisy and Rotten Dimensions.

The album is way too short, clocking in at 20 minutes and 32 seconds. They are working on a follow up, which will be released this year.

For a debut album, this is extremely solid stuff, which is extremely rare to see!

10/10! Outstanding brutal death metal!

New York Trip Preparations - Part 3 (and a small correction to Part 2)

I have finally met my goal regarding the amount of dollars that I am bringing with me to the US, since I went and got $600 today, bringing my total up to $1003. In my last blog on the subject, I falsely claimed, that I only needed $550 to reach $1003, but that was because I was convinced, that I had $453. I only had $403, so that's a mistake on my part.

Either way, I am now finished with all my monetary preparations. Now begins the tedious, and frankly expensive, preparation for what I am bringing with me. I need to pack clothes, but what else do I need? A toiletries bag would be nice. I am not packing shoes, since I plan on buying some when I arrive in the US. The same goes for clothing. I might just pack two sets of clothes, and then buy the rest when I get there. All you really need to bring, when you travel are:

Phone, passport, visa (unless you can travel visa free), money and boarding pass - everything else you can buy on the way there, or when you get there.

More updates to follow soon!

New York Trip Preparations - Part 2

I am slowly getting things in order for my trip to New York next year. I have gotten a confirmation where I am going to stay: At my friends place.

That means that I am going to have to cook some Danish style food for her and her baby, and I know just the thing to make! I hope she eats pork, since Danish food is very pork based. If she doesn't, I am gonna do some tweaks to the food I want to prepare for her.

I am gonna collect the rest of my money for the trip tomorrow. I plan to get at least $550, which means I will have $1003 in total. I have also decided to add a suitcase to my trip, which will cost me $60 each way, which is a price I am willing to pay.

I also had a look at what was included in my plane ticket, since I bought a "basic economy" fare. From what I have read, I am now allowed to bring one carry on bag with me on the plane, as well as a personal item of my choice. I am also getting a comfortable seat in the Main Cabin and enjoy free snacks, soft drinks and inflight entertainment. So it's not gonna be a complete spartan experience, which I was worried about.

So far it's looking good. I am well prepared, which is a first for me! I am usually very last minute, but because I bought my plane ticket almost 10 months in advance, I have time to really prepare.

Now we are just gonna plan what we are going to do for the entire week I am there. But it shouldn't be hard to do, since there are a lot to do, apparently.

Now I just need it to be May 1st, so I can leave!

Customer goes berserk on cashier!

This is the tale of a pair of stupid people.

In the small Danish town of Lyngby, there is a bakery called Lagkagehuset (the English translation would be Layercakehouse). A woman and a man came into the shop, and made a transaction. They then asked for a free bun, which was denied.

For context: In Denmark, if families with small kids come into any supermarket with a bakery attached, or into any bakery in general, the smallest kid gets a free bun to munch on.

As you might have deduced by now, the man and woman didn't have a child with them, so naturally, they weren't allowed to get the free bun. The woman went BALLISTIC, grabbing the nearest thing, which in this case was a vase, and proceeded to THROW it at the poor cashier. They then attempted to leave, and when another employee tried to make what's known as a civilian arrest, the man pushed the employee down. They then exited the bakery, and fled in a car. The staff noted the license plate, so now they are wanted for assault - over a free bun, which usually retails at a STAGGERING $1,44.

But this isn't the first time I have heard about this happening. It's like people think they are entitled to free stuff, even though they aren't.

Italian police seizes a MISSILE?

Up in Gallarate, North of Milan, close to the Swiss border, the police raided a home, and they found nine assault weapons, nearly 30 hunting rifles, pistols and bayonets as well as ammunition and antique Nazi plaques featuring swastikas.

Two other men were detained after police found a French-made missile at an airport hangar that they apparently were seeking to sell.

So - people in Italy had assault weapons, rifles, pistols, ammo, knives, Nazi-stuff and a.. missile? Wow, that's messed up!

In a statement Monday, Turin police said one of the men arrested had an unsuccessful run as a Senate candidate for the neo-fascist Forza Nuova party, which is a far-right "political" party. If you want to read about them, click this link here: (Italy)

Imagine being the cop who walked into the home, finding all those weapons.. One for the books, definitely!

Writing of my screenplay has begun!

I decided to start working on my screenplay earlier. That means a LOT of research in correct NYPD codes, locations of certain things in the screenplay and various names to make up.

So far, I have written 3 full pages. The story is about a terrorist attack in New York City, which I know have been shown SO many times, but I really believe I have a story worth telling. I just need to figure out a name for the story. So far, it's unnamed.

I have just finished the main attack sequence. Now I just need to work out the rest of the story
