We're entering Easter time.

That means a short work week. In my case, three days. My next work day is on the 11th of April.

I have a few things to attend to during my days off. I am going to help a coworker move, and the annual Easter lunch in my family.

It's gonna be nice with a few days off. Plenty of time to catch up on some sleep, do the laundry, watch movies or just relax and play video games.

I do need to sleep as much as possible. I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, probably about 5 hours or so. I cannot function properly unless I get 7 hours, so I am missing 2 hours. Hopefully I can get caught up on that soon.

But for now, three days of work.

Let's do this!

New Monster Energy flavor is..

First, let me tell you the name of the Monster Energy. It's called Ultra Gold, and it's sugar free. It contains taurine, ginseng, caffeine, vitamin b and pineapple flavoring.

Taurine, if you didn't know, is a nervous system depressant and has a stimulating effect on the brain, so TECHNICALLY, it's good for you, albeit in small doses. Some will claim that the taurine in energy drinks is bull semen, which is false. The taurine in energy drinks is synthetic.

Anyway, back to the new Monster Energy.

Opening the can, I got a strong smell of pineapple, which I love! I took a sip, and was a bit disappointed. It tasted like watered down pineapple juice.. It's definitely not among my favourites, but I am not going to waste it. I will drink it and never buy it again..

I'll stick with the Mango Loco..

Finding a date is hard - so I am giving up.

Ever since I was 16, I have been looking for someone to date. I have been on a few dates, but nothing ever came out of it.

After I turned 18, I met K for the first time. It was new and exciting, and I did feel an attraction to her, so when she asked me to visit her, I said yes. We spent a few hours watching movies in her bed. She was the first person I ever kissed. Yes, I kissed K waaaaaay back in the day, when we first met. The following day she wrote me and said what happened was a mistake, and that it would not happen again.

I have always been a respectful person, so I didn't throw a tantrum or anything. I let it go and went about my life.

A year later, I met someone on a website, and we got to talking. She lived a few miles south of me, so we decided to meet up for a weekend. I visited her to begin with, and I admit that things went by pretty fast. She was the second person I kissed - and more than kissed.

I broke it off when she told me that she was dating someone the entire time. I felt really used by this, so I decided to stop looking for dates or love for a few years.

The first date I went on was back when I was 23. It was with a woman who had a difficult time walking properly, which didn't bother me at all. We went to dinner, and we spent a few hours talking over our meal. I had a great time, and I hoped to get a second date. A few days later she wrote me and said she wasn't ready for a relationship, so I wouldn't get a second date. Three days later, she was in a relationship with someone, so she straight up lied to me. I called her out on it, and someone else said that she had told him the same story.

Was I disappointed? Of course. I don't appreciate being lied to, so I blocked all communication and went on with my life.

A few years later, I turned 30. I met someone online. We got to talking, and she asked me if I wanted to visit her for a weekend. I said yes, so I packed a bag, bought a bus ticket, and off I went. This time, I made sure to ask if she was single or dating someone else. Yes, she was single, and no, she was not dating someone else. That made me feel a lot better, so I jumped head first into what turned into a three week romance. She had recently split from her ex, so she needed something else to think about.

Three weekends with intimate moments, but it never developed into full intercourse. Something told me that she wasn't completely over her ex yet, so I took it slow.

My suspicions were confirmed, when she, out of the blue, told me that she was getting back with her ex again, and that she didn't want to see me again. That one hurt, because I had hoped that this would be the one. That it would be the person I was going to start a relationship with.

A year later, I was off to Scotland, where I met a lot of women, but nothing developed into anything other than a friendship. I did kiss someone at the company Christmas party, but we were both drunk, and we both agreed that nothing would develop.

Fast forward to 2018, when I met R. If I had taken a different approach to certain things that she did when we first met in person, who knows what would have happened there. Her and I could be dating. It's hard to say.

We're now in 2023, and I am having a hard time meeting someone new. So I'm giving up - at least for now.

Maybe dating just isn't for me?

One of those days..

Oh boy, it's been quite a day today. I had a feeling something would go wrong when I got to work this morning. Like something was just waiting to break..

Let me tell you: Something BROKE.. Big time..!

Where I work. we use something called an autostore, which is an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) that uses the power of warehouse robots for 24/7 order fulfillment within a cubic layout. You can build it into a square, a star or even a circle.

The autostore at my job is a square layout.

Connected to the layout is a gate, where bins with items comes down. I pick what the screen displays, and happy days.

This video shows how the autostore works

It's extremely clever, since it's 99% automated. The only human input is by the gates, or by the control panel located somewhere on site. Where I work, the control panel is located on the right side of the autostore. My warehouse- and logistics manager was on site today, which he always is at the end of each month. He likes to go around to all of the employees to hear how we are, if there is something bothering us, or if there is something he can do better. He's very hands-on, which I love. He's quite literally the perfect manager.

At about 9:25, the autostore stopped distributing tasks. That's not a good thing for a warehouse that serves a few hundred car mechanics and shops. Tasks kept queuing up, but nothing registered in the autostore. Soon after, we got word that the main warehouse across the country, also experienced the same thing. That meant that the entire supply chain for the entire country was crippled. The logistics manager then had to get on the phone to Norway, since autostore is a Norwegian invention, to hear what the timeline would be, and if we ever were going to get back online again today. "We'll be up in a few minutes", was the reply. 20 minutes later, still nothing, so my boss put me on another task. 5 minutes later, we were back in business, at which point, 150 orders were released - at once. Three gates were in use, as well as three on manual pick, since we also have a manual warehouse part.

20 minutes later, we were back to normal - but it was 20 minutes of hectic activity, lots of noises, yelling, screaming AND shouting, as well as people getting in the way of everyone else, drivers being VERY impatient and just general chaos.

But here's the thing: I loved it! I loved every minute of it! To be in a rush, getting your heart rate up.. Oh yes! Usually it's pretty slow, so whenever I get the chance to really show what I can do? Damn right I will take advantage of that and show them just how fast I can pick and sort items.

I don't mean to brag, but by the time one of my coworkers has picked one order, I am on my 4th. He's old and slow, granted, but still..

Though, it's nice to have a slow days as well. Just not too many of them.

It'll get boring very quickly..

Happy Birthday, dad. I miss you.

Today, my dad would have been 71 years old, if he was still with us.

I still haven't fully accepted that he's gone, even though he died in 2018. it will take some time for it to really sink in, but I'm slowly letting go of the denial. The denial of him not being here. The denial of not receiving a phone call on my birthday with a "Happy Birthday. Have a great day!"

One day, I will be fully accepting that he's gone.

I'm just not ready to let go..

Making something new

I didn't know what to make for dinner tonight, so I grabbed my frying pan, and went looking in my fridge. I found some diced beef, a carrot, which I sliced, and a pack of cocktail sausages. I placed all that in a pan, and then I added some salt, chili flakes and more salt, and gave that a toss. Finally, I gave it a decent amount of ketchup, and then dinner was ready.

For something I thought up on the fly, it was surprisingly good.. I just don't know what to call it, though..

Not my brightest moment..

Yesterday, I got the extremely bright idea to cut out any unnatural sugar and also cut out caffeine during this week. That means no soda and no chocolate.

At lunchtime, I had the biggest headache ever, and I was sweating bullets.

I am used to drinking 6 cans of soda every day at work. When I get home, I drink another 4, for a grand total of 10 cans per day. The weekends are even worse.

So the headache is pretty self explanatory, as is the headache. I am robbing my body of its usual sugar and caffeine intake. Instead, I am replacing the soda with water, and the chocolate with fruit, thereby cutting off the sugar and the caffeine. My body then says "Something's wrong. Help", which results in headache.

When it was time for my lunch, I had one can of soda, just to make the headache go away. I am excited to see how long it will take me to be completely free of the caffeine and sugar clutches!

First concert of 2023!

Last year, I bought tickets for a concert that I have always wanted to go to, but I could never afford it. Now that I am working, I can afford it. What did I go to see?

Michael Bublé.

I went with my mother, who is a big fan of his as well. We had the cheapest tickets, which was on the second-to-last row in the arena, but I didn't care. As long as I was in the arena and could see what happened, I was happy.

The show itself was great. Bublé is a huge entertainer, which made the experience that much better!

10/10!

Making plans for the USA! (part 7!)

It is that time again! It's time for your favourite blog ever - my planning for the USA.

The last blog was about the food. This blog is about something else.. It can't always be about food, right?

My friend, who I am visiting, told me that she would be working Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Saturday, she's off at 3 pm, so I need to keep myself busy and/or entertained until she's back home. Fortunately, I love exploring. All I really need is some water, a good pair of shoes and my camera. With those three things, I can be busy for hours. I can look at the local area, for example. I could also help her with grocery shopping. The possibilities are endless!

I COULD also be a total recluse and spend the entire day watching TV, but that's not fun. Not fun at all. Besides, I am in a new country, so I need to experience shtuff.. Flying 4173 miles just to watch TV is just.. Not it..

I need to ask my friend if I can get a spare key so I can go exploring while she's at work! She's off work Sunday and Monday, so those days can be spent driving to DC. I'm thinking we're going to hit a shopping mall on the Saturday, but nothing's set in stone just yet.

My trip is 51 days and 11 hours away! I should start packing soon..

It's Valentine's Day..

Or as I call it: Tuesday. My day today has been okay. A lot of stuff to do at work, which is quite nice. It wouldn't be particularly fun if work was slow and boring.

Every day has a theme, it seems. Mondays are usually exhausts, since I pick so many exhausts during Mondays. Tuesdays are all about filters, while Wednesdays are all about oil. Thursdays are for the more troublesome things to pick, like subframes and Fridays are for all the small things (Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na)

Anyway.. Tomorrow's Wednesday, so we are almost half way through the work week. Actually, in about 16 hours (it's 21:42 here now on a Tuesday), we are officially half way through the work week, at least here in Denmark. It might be different where you are, though.

I hope you have had a fantastic day, and have treated yourself to something nice. You deserve it. Unless your name is Carl. In that case, you deserve nothing..

The state of my union is...

Hopeful. Bright.

Let me explain!

I am currently 38 years old. I know I don't look it, but I am. The retirement age for my age group is 69 (nice), so I effectively have just around 30 YEARS left before I can retire. If I stay at my current employer until my 69th (nice) birthday, I will have been at the company for 31 years. The way car technology is evolving, it won't be long before we stock more and more electric car components. No more exhausts. No more oil. No more chemicals. No more degreaser. No more grease. It would be a very different business, but hopefully my employer will exist in 30 years time.

The next big milestone for the company is in 2027, where it will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Given that it's a billion kroner company, hopefully we will get something great. I am not holding my breath for something truly life altering. Maybe we will get a bonus. I was thinking along the lines of a years pay, but something tells me that's not going to happen. Maybe a months salary as a bonus. I could use that, definitely. It would look nice on my savings account.

In either way - my future with the company looks bright. And no, I don't do this job for the money. I do it because I love it. I am not getting paid much, but it's better than nothing.

Bonus info: I just read that the town I live in now can trace its roots all the way to 3000 BC, where some stone age peasants settled down in the area. Pretty fun trivia to bust out during a party

Helping a coworker move went a bit.. Unexpected..

I had an agreement with someone at work, that I would help him move today. 11 am meeting time, but I was there a bit earlier, because I wanted some food and something to drink.

Once that was acquired, off we went to collect the furniture. On the motorway there, a car got our attention by honking. Apparently something was wrong, so we pulled over to see what they were on about. Finding nothing, we started driving again. It was only when we arrived at the location from where my coworker was moving from, that we found out what they were trying to say to us on the motorway - the rear driver side tyre was almost out of air. It was also pretty warm, so we had to change the wheel. I don't know why the tyre was warm, so maybe someone can educate me on that subject.

Anyway.. We managed to change the wheel, after what felt like five hours. In reality, it was only about 45 minutes, but it felt longer. We loaded up the furniture, a whopping THREE cabinets and a TV, and off we went to my coworkers new place. He had found a place in a town close to work for 5000 Danish kroner per month including bills, which was pretty cheap seeing as he has two rooms, instead of just one.

When we were close to the new place, I suddenly got a pretty severe case of flashbacks to back when I was about 8. All the houses looked like the one I grew up in. We're talking the exact same layout, same kitchen and bathroom placement, same garden.. Same everything. The only thing missing was red doors and a shed next to the front door. Otherwise, it looked exactly the same. It was very weird, and I knew where everything was, even if it was my first time in that particular place.

So my day today went from "Oh it's gonna be pretty quick moving these things" to "Wow, I am back in my childhood home AND I have helped changing a flat tyre on a van.."

I have also begun the next stage in my USA trip planning. More on that later
