Getty Fire

Wild fires are the norm in SoCal this time of year, but this one threatened the Getty Center. Most wouldn't give a shit but the Getty Center is a 1.3 $billion museum that houses priceless works of art and is FREE to the public!

I've been nervously watching the news since the fire was getting close...

Hope the get it out in time. Wild fires are something we fear most up here on the mountain.
It seems to be a big fire if there telling people to leave. new fire today pray for rain this is dangerous with 10,000 (holmes and bidnesses) How does a fire start at 1:34 am sounds fishy.
Ek, it's a legitimate fear! Especially in such a dry area. It hasn't really rained here in months. Then again, the weather or lack of it is what makes this area so attractive to so many.
dunno
It's heartbreaking to hear or watch the news about it. My granddiva just moved to San Diego too so I'm more concerned than she is.
Build a wall of wind turbines to remove much of the energy from these Santa Anna winds I've been hearing so much about which are fanning the flames and sweeping burning embers to untouched areas and starting new fires. Inject the free energy into the electric grid.

When life hands you lemons, make Lemonade.
I'm not sure the Santa Ana winds are that steady or predictable, Oob.
I would be willing to bet that wind turbines are designed to deal with gale force winds otherwise we would have heard about wind turbines being blown down by now. I have no doubt that these wind turbine blades have variable pitch which can be adjusted depending on the wind speed. Not having the ability to adjust the "Angle of Attack" of the blade would be idiotic. This is technology that dates back to the 1950's at least.
Kudo's for your effort oldie, I have to yield to your empirical experience and observations of locked down turbine blades in high wind conditions. Maybe I gave the designers more credit than they deserve. It would seem to me to be almost a no brainer to employ aircraft technology to wind turbines even to the point of adjusting the blade angle by computer in real time as wind conditions change. Another thing they should be able to do with not much high tech hardware is be able to rotate on their base as wind direction changes to maximize their efficiency. Who knows, maybe they do that already.
Good luck LAFONDA on getting to the Getty center. Took this off the Web.

The San Fernando Valley's notorious 101-405 interchange linking the Ventura and San Diego freeways - long seen as ground zero for the region's gridlock - has received a dubious distinction: being named the worst bottleneck in the nation, according to a study being released today.

It seems to me, having driven this bit of road a few times, that the 405 is only smooth sailing at 2 AM
Missing ,something last comment . The Getty Center is only 3 or 4 miles down the 405 from this intersection.
