The Power of Beauty

Just recently, I was watching the movie, The Dark Tower. In the movie, Matthew McConaughey's character makes a comment to his shape-shifting minion, (to the effects here) "Oh, I see you chose a beautiful face....with a beautiful face, the world is your oyster."

Also, I have heard it said that a beautiful woman is the most powerful person in the world.

....and, what about that song that says if you want a happy life don't marry a beautiful wife (or something like that lol)

I am just a dummy here and just trying to become more educated.

Is it possible there is something to beauty?

Is it possible that beautiful people should be paid a little closer attention to, to determine their personalities, their moral compasses...etc....

It is said that we are in essence products of our environments. We are shaped by our feedback we receive from others. Is it possible that beautiful people curry favor....they hear less negative feedback because many want something from them? Therefore, they become less empathetic due to genuine ignorance. dunno

I don't know....but I found that line in that movie very interesting.

In addition, the references given mention the female gender. Of course, this is not a gender specific subject. Men can also be deemed as attractive and curry favor as well because of their looks.

I am sure it is just Hollywood and it means absolutely nothing....but...what if.
What about the beauty Hollywood hires, why?
What about news networks with the majority being attractive, why?
What about weather channels and their beauty, why?
Scammers using images of attractive people, why?

Common sense would say it is a play on human instincts...they are not labeled "attractive" for nothing. They garner attention, people wanting to watch/see them. In other words they generate viewer dollars. They by no fault of their own, have a following for nothing other than their looks. Some, I would suspect know they are beautiful and can play that in their favor. Hmmm....I am trying to think of something I just heard on a show in reference to a woman using her beauty for selfish ends. Again, men can too.

Beauty can have the power of persuasion. I once heard that humans have 5 essential motivators....one is sex and one is money.

I bet people have done some pretty stupid things at the request of a beautiful person.

I am not saying all beauty is dangerous...but...just like anything else...some can be.

dunno wave

Beauty is not the - end all be all. However, it is 'a foot in the door'.
It garners at least initial attention. Beyond that, more is usually necessary,
unless you're in Hollywood. laugh
I think that makes sense Jim....beauty being a foot in the door.

It does happen. But I would say that most people decide to have fewer, better friends because they make the reliable witness. Not all feedback is equal.
String. thumbs up

"Beauty is not the - end all be all. However, it is 'a foot in the door'."

Yeah, and some who got that foot in the door had/have many years of regrets (sleeping your way to the top).
Molly....good point with beauty genuinely earning their position.

and

LaF....

great point of how remorse kicks in when they got something they didn't earn.

Thank you ladies for some wonderful perspective...and expansion on the subject.

Mermaid I started working out to keep my inner shell healthy & that is still my purpose for attending the gym..I eat a lot I love food but also my body needs the fuel for what I put her through at the gym.
Mermaid I'm older than you when I go out with my son people who don't know us think I'm his gal..Don't make excuses about age and so on if you want it there's nothing stopping you from achieving..Don't just stick to cardio build muscle mass as well..Get your BMI checked it will reveal all.
Merc, not making excuses. It’s physically more difficult to exercise now than it was in my 20s. Don’t project what you’ve experienced in your life onto me! I’m done here. scold roll eyes
I was actually motivating you with the truth..Be done that's fine by me I don't do cotton wool..I wish you all the best..One other thing I work out with woman who can hardly walk in their 70's who have all sorts of terrible physical disabilities..They don't moan and shut off when I'm helping them out..Each to their own!~
Mermaid, that is what I do...do some exercise to stay somewhat healthy. I am trying to avoid using a walker when I get older. That is my No. 1 goal. laugh

@Johnny...lol. Yeah, I’m increasing my exercise little by little. Like I said, it’s not enough to lose weight yet but it will be.
Thank you Mermaid. I appreciate you saying you liked it. :) thumbs up
